Slow Samba Printer initialisation, status, and printing
OK, I have been wrestling with this for two weeks now, so somebody please
help !
We have an existing Samba Print Server, running RedHat linux, kernel
2.2.19, that runs fine, but is a P133 with 64 mb ram. So we built a new PC,
the slowest thing we could buy, a duron 1 ghz with 512 mb RAM. Old printer
server is running Samba 2.2.5, new printer server is running samba 2.2.5,
and Slackware 8.1,

Making nt_printer.tdb from tdbtool?
Hello All --
We are trying to consolidate our printer management from
a series of NT print servers to a series of Samba ones,
in a global network with ten offices and about 150 printers.
All printing is PostScript and goes to HP and Canon printers
over lpd through custom 'if' filters which do accounting.
To help this we're trying to automate the printer and
driver registration

Problems using Samba as a PDC
I'm trying to use Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.2 for a PDC and can't get
Win2k to even acknowledge that the domain exists. I am attaching my
smb.conf. the error message is: "The specified domain either does not
exist or could not be contacted"
Output of smbclient:
[root@theta samba]# smbclient -L \\theta -U bmitchel

Printer comments and other weirdness
Am running Samba 3.0.20 on SuSE 10.0 and cups as my printer provider. I've
used the cups gui to create a number of printers. They appeared correctly in
my Printers and Faxes folder in Explorer and I uploaded my print drivers
successfully. Now, a few days later, I'm looking at my printers and I notice
that the comments that show up on the print shares themselves still reflect
some old data

Printing Errors
I've been running RedHat 5.0 and Samba flawlessly for over 6 months now.
I had to reboot the server and now I can't seem to print. When I use
the "Printtool" to send a test text or postscript job to the printer,
I get the following error:
Unable to print to HP4000
Error Message: lpr: connect: no such file or directory
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon

Raising DomainAdmin privileges
I have the following problem:
As DomainAdmin I want to be able to mount a Windows directory, do a
complete directory listing, read and possibly write all files in that
directory. And all that even if the user has not included the
DomainAdmin in the list of permitted users.
To do this properly, I need to raise the following DomainAdmin
privileges:
SE_CHANGE_NOTIFY_NAME
SE_BACKUP_NAME

Print Server
Ok, here's my setup: I've had a samba file server going for about a year
now. It's Samba v2.05a on a RH6.0 sys. Currently we have a printer
server running on a Winblows NT box. This NT box has the following
printers: HP5si, (4) HP4000, and a few HP4s. All of those printers have
Jet Direct ports on them. What I want to do is, move all the printers
over to the Samba box and KILL the NT

Supplementary Group Issues
I was wondering if any one else is having issues with supplementary groups
not being recognized. It seems as if Samba is ignoring the sup.groups. I'm
using RH9.0 on Intel with samba-3.0.0-2_rh9 and OpenLDAP 2.0.27. When I do
a "id -a username" the user is in all the necessary groups but when
accessing shares the users' primary GID is used only.
For example,
uid=1001(jgray)

Seek clarification on use of 'net rpc join -U' to join a NT4 domain
Dear Friends:
I am trying to join a Suse 9.1 Server running Samba 3.07 to an NT4
Domain. One part I am confused about is the command "net rpc join -U"
... is the username to be used with this command the name of an
administrator on the NT4 PDC? Does that administrator need to be an
user on the Samba Server and a member of the "root" group?
I successfully join using

3.x build and 'net ads join' no longer work in 3.6.0
Hi Gurus,
I've been trying to compile SaMBa 3.6.0 for its SMB2 support on/off half
time
for about two weeks. I've built ealier versions of 3.x and most recently
3.4.2
following the same procedure but it no longer works for 3.6.0. I'm about
ready to give up and hope that someone here might be able to give me a clue.
I would grab a pre-built package but neither sunfreeware nor

Domain admins not getting local admin rights
Hi there,
I switched servers yesterday.
The old server was running 2.2.7a-1 on RedHat 8.0.
The new server is 3.0.8-0.pre1.3 on Fedora Core 3.
I did the migration by copying the following:
/etc/passwd
/etc/group
/etc/shadow
/etc/samba/*
I then copied /home and fixed all the permissions on stuff.
I then started up samba on the new server, and unplugged the old one.
Most everything went

net rpc rights problem with groups
Hello List,
I have tried to grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an extra group.
Users in this group should not have Admin rights but they should be able to join workstations to the domain.
My first try was to grant the right to a single user wich is working as expected.
net rpc rights grant "TOPTEST\toptest.r" SeMachineAccountPrivilege -U domainadmin

Joining a trusted domain
Hello,
I've come across a fairly unique situation and after much searching have
not found a solution. I thought I would see if anyone here has had any
experience with this before.
I have a location with two ADS domains with a two-way trust configured.
-For this example I will call them corp.company.com and bst.company.com.

valid users option and NT users
Hello,
I use Samba 2.27 on top of Red Hat 9 as a Domain Member Server. The
integration with the NT4 Primary Domain Controller works fine. Being used to
NTFS I find the definition of Access Rights on shared files is somewhat
limited. I can only assign Access Rights tot the User, his Primary User
Group and the Everyone Group. I Understand this is a limitation of the
Linux filesystem where one
