XP Joining domain
I'm attempting to join a Samba 3.0.4 domain on a Debian linux box, with
a Windows XP client.
Problems
1) Can only get the join to work if I use the root account. On Win2k I
can use any account in the Domain Admins group.
2) The join succeeds, the unix account and the smb account are created
but the smb account is disabled, and the password contains all XXXXs.
Joining the domain works

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my
epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me
I'm flirting with a world of pain.
I *can* print a file by going:
smbclient //rory/EPSON
translate
print /etc/group
but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going:
cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Printing Problem
Hi there.
I have the following Problem (configuration follows):
I have configured Samba with 3 printers, 2 of them with direct
connection over TCP, because they are connected directly to the
internal network.
When I try to print on one of them, the printing application on a
Windows XP Professional client freezes and a Windows 2000 client
reports an error message,
that there is a problem with

Winbind and GroupMapping
I was wondering if anyone has come across an error in their winbindd log:

Winbind issue
I have 3 Linux rh9.0 servers on the network all using Samba/LDAP to
authenticate. One is acting as the PDC and the other two are domain
members. On one server I don't have winbind running and everything works
great, however, on the other server, if I turn off the winbind I get a
password prompt and cannot access the server. I have no need for winbind
but I'm forced to keep it on.

Printing from Linux to Windows 2000
I've seen a lot on printing from Win boxes to printers on Linux boxes. I've
found very little on printing from Linux to Windows printers. The HOWTO has
some information and I've found several other sources, but I still can't get
my Linux box to print to a Windows 2000 printer.
I'm using Mandrake Linux 8.2, Samba 2.2.3a, CUPS (I'm not sure of the version,

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Ah HA!.
OK we do all the steps in my previous missive and everything looks fine,
landscape, collating the whole works. This is on a Laserjet 4000 with the
latest PCL6 driver.
The firm still has a good number of Laserjet 4s so we dutifully load up the
latest PCL5E driver for the 4 and connect to the 4 on a couple of
workstations.
Everything goes to hell.

Printing to raw cups queue from Windows XP
I have a little home network that uses an Epson C82 served out via Samba
from an RH9 Linux box. When I set this up a year ago, the only way I
could get printing to work was through a raw Cups queue. (Well,
actually, I never tried anything but CUPS). It all worked well enough,
except for an annoyingly long delay between the issuing of the print
command and the start of output to the

Samba spoolfile name
L.S.
Situation:
I am running Samba 2.2.7a as my DPC in a small business network with win98/ME clients.
A big Fiery printer/scanner/copier device is also part of this network. It has its own printserver.
Since Win98/ME can not print to an LPD queue directly, I have setup Samba to spool the printjobs send by the clients to the Fiery server.
All is working well, but there is a small problem.

PLEASE help with printing problem
I can't seem to find an answer or a workaround, and I've received stoney
silence on this one. There aren't any answers in the archives (well, I
didn't find any in the hours on several days I spent, anyhow). I'm
convinced that I can't be the *only* one with this problem, nor am I
convinced that there is absolutely no one who can help. Please feel

X-12-ARIMA
Dear All,
I've used the X-12-ARIMA or its earlier versions from S+ and R under both Unix
and Windows platforms for many years using the klugey approach of calling an
executable using in R the system function. I've found this serviceable for the
following reasons.
1) Paul Gilbert's hunch is correct that many of the subroutines have extensive
IO calls (especially the X-11 engine)

Win2k Printing Problem
I have a problem with Windows 2000 (SP2) printing to an Epson C60 on a
Linux server (running Mandrake 8.1 and Samba 2.2.2 with Cups 1.1.12). I've
scoured the net and posts on Usenet have not yielded any helpful response.
I have 2 Win2k boxes and they both respond differently, but neither is
printing. I've installed the printer on both boxes. On one I get a

strange problem printing to windows box
My wife has just gotten a new printer which works perfectly when
connected either to her Win98 box or to my woody box. However I am
unable to share the printer between the two machines. Here are my
choices in order of increasing desireability.
I could of course just move the cable whenever I want to print from my
box. This is the obviously least desireable option.
The windows machine can

[Fwd: Samba print]
I have a notebook with Windows Xp. This PC works connected both to my
office network and my home network.
At work I can print from this PC to any printer on the network, in
particular on a Epson 810 that is connected to a Linux box with RedHat 8.0
At home I have a Epson C70 connected to a Linux box with RedHat 9, but I
can't print on the Linux printer
I copied the smb.conf file from
