XP Joining domain
I'm attempting to join a Samba 3.0.4 domain on a Debian linux box, with a Windows XP client. Problems 1) Can only get the join to work if I use the root account. On Win2k I can use any account in the Domain Admins group. 2) The join succeeds, the unix account and the smb account are created but the smb account is disabled, and the password contains all XXXXs. Joining the domain works

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me I'm flirting with a world of pain. I *can* print a file by going: smbclient //rory/EPSON translate print /etc/group but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going: cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Printing Problem
Hi there. I have the following Problem (configuration follows): I have configured Samba with 3 printers, 2 of them with direct connection over TCP, because they are connected directly to the internal network. When I try to print on one of them, the printing application on a Windows XP Professional client freezes and a Windows 2000 client reports an error message, that there is a problem with

Winbind issue
I have 3 Linux rh9.0 servers on the network all using Samba/LDAP to authenticate. One is acting as the PDC and the other two are domain members. On one server I don't have winbind running and everything works great, however, on the other server, if I turn off the winbind I get a password prompt and cannot access the server. I have no need for winbind but I'm forced to keep it on.

Samba spoolfile name
L.S. Situation: I am running Samba 2.2.7a as my DPC in a small business network with win98/ME clients. A big Fiery printer/scanner/copier device is also part of this network. It has its own printserver. Since Win98/ME can not print to an LPD queue directly, I have setup Samba to spool the printjobs send by the clients to the Fiery server. All is working well, but there is a small problem. This

PLEASE help with printing problem
I can't seem to find an answer or a workaround, and I've received stoney silence on this one. There aren't any answers in the archives (well, I didn't find any in the hours on several days I spent, anyhow). I'm convinced that I can't be the *only* one with this problem, nor am I convinced that there is absolutely no one who can help. Please feel free to jump in with

X-12-ARIMA
Dear All, I've used the X-12-ARIMA or its earlier versions from S+ and R under both Unix and Windows platforms for many years using the klugey approach of calling an executable using in R the system function. I've found this serviceable for the following reasons. 1) Paul Gilbert's hunch is correct that many of the subroutines have extensive IO calls (especially the X-11 engine)

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Ah HA!.
OK we do all the steps in my previous missive and everything looks fine, landscape, collating the whole works. This is on a Laserjet 4000 with the latest PCL6 driver. The firm still has a good number of Laserjet 4s so we dutifully load up the latest PCL5E driver for the 4 and connect to the 4 on a couple of workstations. Everything goes to hell. Landscpae, collating and all other problems

strange problem printing to windows box
My wife has just gotten a new printer which works perfectly when connected either to her Win98 box or to my woody box. However I am unable to share the printer between the two machines. Here are my choices in order of increasing desireability. I could of course just move the cable whenever I want to print from my box. This is the obviously least desireable option. The windows machine can

Printing from Linux to Windows 2000
I've seen a lot on printing from Win boxes to printers on Linux boxes. I've found very little on printing from Linux to Windows printers. The HOWTO has some information and I've found several other sources, but I still can't get my Linux box to print to a Windows 2000 printer. I'm using Mandrake Linux 8.2, Samba 2.2.3a, CUPS (I'm not sure of the version, I think

Samba and printing=cups; printers disappear after a while
Hello there, We're using a reasonably large network of linux boxes, about 6 of them offering printing services through CUPS. This has worked remarkably stably for the last months, but we've got one lasting problem with Samba that someone may have a hint to offer. We use an smbd on one of the linux boxes that offers the shared CUPS printers to the windows clients on the network. Now

NT-to-Linux printing stopped working...
Printing seems like a popular subject here lately. ;) I have an Epson Stylus Color IIs which I had connected to my Linux box. It was mapped on my NT box, and everything worked fairly well (except for the print quality--NT drivers for that printer suck). So, I bought a new printer--an Epson Stylus Color 740. I hooked it up to Linux, made the necessary changes to /etc/printcap, and printed some
