Samba PDC - Solaris 8 or 9??
If anyone has Samba setup to run as a PDC with Solaris 8 or 9 could you
drop me a line? I have a few questions I would like ask. Our shop is
looking at trying to implement this option with our SMB master. I didnt
want to clutter up the list with more than one request.

Samba PDC - Administrator issues
Samba PDC is up and running. We are not using roaming profiles. My problem is this. How do we make the administrator account have administrative priv's locally on the client PC when they login on the DOMAIN? What is happening now is that when the Administrator logs in it just makes a domain accoutn for the Administrator locally but this new account does not have actualy administrator

Samba 3.0.14a Not restoring connections - Help ??
Hello-
When our users log off for the evening and log back in in the morning
they are having to re-enter the SMB password for the network shares they
had saved when mapping them. In the past when the local username and
password matched the smbpasswd file then all connections restored w/o a
hitch. Its now not working.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Below is my small smb.conf

for Todd Johnson
Todd,
I experienced a similar problem. I know it sounds trivial... I used the
version of Samba that came with the install CD of RHLinux 7.3, and got it
running well. Then I read about the bugs and so I upgraded to Samba 2.2.8a.
Afterwards, whenever I would make any changes to /etc/samba/smb.conf, I
would not see any difference in Samba's behavior. Then I ran testparm and
I noticed

Samba Domain Emu
Hi
I have read that Samba can emulate an NT Domain. Is this still possible?
I dont see much about it listed anymore. Is it still supported in
2.2.8a. Does anyone have any information concerning this? We would like
our version to do this so we can do some testing with one of our NetApp
880's.

Cross-Subnet Browsing Problem
Hi all,
I've had cross-subnet browsing working in Samba in the past, though I
tend to struggle with it each time I set it up. For whatever reason, I
can't seem to get things working this time.
Summary: Only my desktop, not the file server, shows up in the desktop's
Network Neighborhood. (I have left the machines running for several
hours, in case there's a time-to-sync issue

WINS problem discovered and fixed!! browsing speedup of 20X for large networks
Ok, after several months of pulling my hair out I finally fixed WINS and
browsing at out Univesity. It ended up being an acutal bug, er bad code
segment. To explain we have a large number of clients ~1000+ at any one
time over 6 subnets. Browsing was spuratic at best. nmbd sucked up %70
of the proccessing power of a sparc 5. Well after serious investigation
I traced it down to two lines of

Large Binary file reader for Simple minds
I'm more like a caveman when it comes to programming tools. So, with that
in mind, is there a way to use readBin in a batch format to read in pieces
of a large binary file? Thank you for the consideration of my question.

Problem inspecting Windows images with large registry hives
Encountered the following problem and would like to know if this is a known

Using libguestfs and the python bindings to inspect VMs. Fairly
successfully for the most part, but had one Windows image today that fails
in the following manner.

RGL Crash with large data sets.
I have had a strange problem with rgl. I am currently switching from a
desktop computer to a workstation. When I get a very large data set and
run spectro3D, the computations run then the window with the 3d plot
appears it doesn't show the data inside and immediately shuts down R.
The computers have OpenGL on them, but a colleague suspects the
configuration of rgl with OpenGL may be the

Using umask
Grasping a full understanding of setting default Users, Groups
and Masks has alluded me over the years, but now I find myself in
a situation where manually "setting" the file/directory
attributes is becoming a pain.
I understand the fundamentals of the file attributes, though from
time to time I have to review the "sticky bit"; what I do not
understand is where/how the

Freebsd + NT/Nt-Client am Linux-Server
Pam_SMB allows Linux clients to validate
their passwords against an NT PDC, so the
only thing you have to do is set up the
accounts on the Linux side with an '*'
in the /etc/passwd entry. This can be
done using a list of users:
#!/bin/bash
for i in `cat myuserlist`; do
/usr/sbin/adduser -p '*' $i
with various other command line options,
such as "-s

Samba performance with large directories
Hello,
I have a samba server on OpenPower (SUSE SLES9) and a DS4300 storage
attached. There is a lot of data (8 TB mp3 files). Some directories
contains more then 250.000 files. The application is a music playbox in a
huge CD shop: you can take a CD hold it under the scanner and after the
barcode is scanned it starts playing the first CD track (for 30 seconds).
All files are exactly 125K in size.
