Samba 3.0.1 and OpenLDAP 2.2.4 with TLS
Hi all, I've been searching the lists and web for an answer but i'm stumped hope some one here has an answer for me. As I'm new to this sysadmin role. I have set up OpenLDAP to authenticate our linux users and exim MTAs. This all works fine with OpenLDAP only providing a ldaps:/// connection on 636. However I cannot for the life of me get samba to speak tls to it. I've seen

ldapsam with user level security
Hi, Everything I can find about using the ldapsam backend seems to imply that samba will be used as a domain controller. Is it possible to use ldapsam as the backend and have just a user level security workgroup? Thanks. Craig

smbpasswd fails to add machine account with ldapsam
Hi! I am seeing other users with the same problem as I have. My samba also fails to add machine accounts. It seems to me if it didn't even try. If I use some other script (pdbedit, smbldap-tools) than smbpasswd it manages to add the account but still fails to authenticate within the same session. If I try again the machine account exists and authentication goes ok. server:~# smbpasswd -a -m

FSD sequence not working on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Hi, I have recently installed NUT 2.7.3.1 on a freshly installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (64-bit) system, connected via USB cable to APC Smart-UPS 1500 (SMT model). I am trying to make this configuration work for automatic shutdown/restart but it seems that it completely ignores /etc/killpower presence. I know the APC SMT models are problematic but it looks like I could not even make the simplest

How to use ldapsam only for authentication?
Hello dear list, I need help with authentication configuration on samba. It is a little bit special ... We have a Linux-Server with all users/groups local configured. (nsswitch.conf points to passwd and groups) We have ONE share configured and under this shared folder are located separated project folders. On each project folder are set posix ACLs with two groups for read only and write

Problem with "ldapsam:trusted = yes"
Hi, I updated from 3.0.11 to 3.0.12 and tried the new ldapsam:trusted parameter. Alas smbd dies silently a second after startup. With debug level 2 I can't see any reason in the logfile. My smb.conf is (relevant part I hope): ================================= [global] workgroup = BBS_XXX netbios aliases = fileserver revreselif passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://localhost

confusion about using samba as NT4 PDC with ldapsam backend
Hello, I want to use samba v3.3.x to implement an NT4/Win2k style domain: a samba PDC and a samba BDC, using ldapsam for the 'passdb backend'. I plan to use RedHat Directory Server v8.2 as the ldap server. I'm trying to sort out how user/group management and nss will work. I'm confused about how/when the samba-supplied ldap schema is used (I mean the schema that's in the

ldapsam.so missing
Hi all, I am trying to get Samba 3 to authenticate against Sun One Directory Server 5.2. I ran ./configure --with-ldap --with-ldapsam --with-pam --with-pam_smbpass --with-acl-support --with-shared-modules=lkdap,ldapsam but everytime I run ./smbclient - L servername -N SMBD complains of a timeout error. I check the log.smbd file and it complains that ldapsam.so missing, despite the fact

3.0.23 ldapsam:trusted=yes problem
Hi all! I've a running Samba PDC (LDAP backend) with windows clients. All the users are in the LDAP, including the 'guest' user. All except the 'root' user which is a regular user. Then change in the smb.conf ldapsam:trusted = yes ldapsam:editposix = yes and noticed some speed-up when listing groups, look file ownerships, and so on. But I can't add machines to the
