winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi, since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared printers are no-longer usable :-/ With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print" window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and faxes. With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

adding printers from netlogon script
I don't know the final answer BUT if you have something simmilar to a cyber-cafe LAN (I mean, users use all the computers, and maybe some users come back to login with the same name) then you have to install a printer only once in a computer, loging as the administrator and installing drivers. Then what users will have to do is JUST add the printer without installing. I know that it's

For you Win2K folks that are using disable spoolss=yes you can use this command below to install printers....I will try and explain some of the parts: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /f \\pc1\software\hp4500n\HP231Ipc.inf /m "HP Color LaserJet 4500 PCL 5c" /r "\\pc3\hp4500n" /b "Color Printer - Third Floor" rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /f

HP Laserjet WinXP driver install on samba 3.2.5 --> explorer.exe crash
Hi folks, I have a samba PDC with about 5 printers (from HP, Kyocera and Canon) and except the one HP Laserjet 2055 PCL6 all drivers (installed via 'Add Printer Wizard Driver Installation') for all printers did install well and without major issues in the print$-driver-share. With this driver all seems well until I finally hit the "ok"-button in the printer properties

Samba-Cups: all works except browsing when printer is not defined in smb.conf
Cups 1.2.7 Debian Etch with Samba 3.0.24 Clients: WinXP SP3 (with Firewall completely off for testing) When I define a printer specifically in smb.conf, they show up as shared printers in WinXP. But when I follow the normal way (see below) to load all from cups they don't. I followed mainly the latest SAMBA-HOWTO (chapter 21-22) The only error I see in log.smbd when accessing the

PrintUIEntry for NT4?
For Win2K, I've been using RunDLL32 printui.dll, printuientry to do a bunch of different printer related stuff (most notably, mapping printers and setting the default). Looks like NT4 doesn't have the same stuff. Is there anything classier I can use than NET USE under NT4 (without downloading something like Kixstart)? Thanks for your help. ---- _ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _ |Y#| | | |\/| |

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations? What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer? So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here: http://wpkg.org/wiki/index.php/Printer_configuration But somehow I feel it

setting printing preference in 3.0.1 for 'HP LJ 4/4M plus'
Hi Jerry et al, I'm using the 3.0.1 release on Solaris 9 in security mode ADS. It works fine in general. But there are some problems with printer drivers. For ex the HP LJ 4/4M plus driver can not be set to 'A4' from 'letter' in the printing preferences. I use 'rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /p /t3 /n\\...' to get to the dialogue, so I'm pretty sure I try to

adding printers from netlogon script
While this doesn't relate specifically to Samba, I need to do this in a netlogon .bat file in a Samba domain. In my network, I have a printer hooked to a JetDirect so that it is a TCP/IP printer. Is there a way I can automatically have this printer mapped/added when the user is logged on? -- Andrew Gaffney

installing printer in a logon script
Hello, I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client. I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users. To do this, I use: net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the domain), and the second line is to install printer.

Samba 2.2.3 Windows Printer Drivers definitions
Hi, I have a question about the assignment of printer drivers for windows to my printers in printcap. How do I configure a printer located in my printcap to be recognised by a windows pc as the right model? Where is the mapping supposed to be saved? I have RH 7.2, samba 2.2.3 and lprng running on a PPro 200 Compaq. My intention is that it will serv as a queue server for about 100 printers.

login scripts --what to use
Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris

Samba printing via CUPS fails
Hi Having switched my Samba server from a Solaris box to a RHEL3 Linux box I cannot get printing to work. Linux box is using CUPS to reference various network available printers. Printer drivers have been made available from the Samba server itself under print$. The Samba version is 3.0.9-1.3E.13.2 (the default with RHEL3) and CUPS is 1.1.17-13.3.43 (again the RHEL3 default) [print$]

samba4 AD DNS zone corrupted
Hello everyone, somehow I broke my DNS zone managed by samba4. Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas and you are my last hope! When I want to open it in Windows DNS administration MSC, I get the following error when selecting the zone: "Zone Not Loaded by DNS Server". When running regular DNS queries on that zone, everything works fine. # host -t A mydomain.local mydomain.local has

Hello, I am running a samba/ldap PDC on domainA with winbind. It works fine as a domain controler. Samba : 3.0.21c OpenLDAP : 2.2.15 I want to add domainB as a trusted domain (ie the users of domainB would have access to the shares of domainA without another authentication). I configured this and net rpc give me this : # net rpc trustdom list Password: Trusted domains list: DomainB

net use z: \\sambapdc\share1 <file:///\\sambapdc\share1> However I still get prompted for a user name and password. I don't seem to have a way to force the "net" command to connect anonymously. If I can force an anonymous connection from Windows, then I should be OK. (Again, this share does not contain information that needs much protection.) Thanks
