NTLM HTTP Authentication - distinguishing between win9x and NT and 2000
Hello, I am trying to get the mod_ntlm Apache module running. I have been playing with the code and find that I cannot distinguish between a IE browser running on win98 and one running on Windows 2000. My Apache server is running on red hat 7.1 x86. The code does the following to distinguish: if ((strcmp(ntlmssp->host,"")==0) &&

Samba vs 2.0.6 and Win9x clients
Hello All, I've downloaded and compiled Samba vs 2.0.6 on Digital Unix 4.0E. I'm using server authentication and pointing it to our NT PDC. I can browse the shares fine from NTs. On Win95 and Win98, I can attach to shares and see the first level directory, but nothing below that. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for? I've succesfully run all ten steps in the

password is incorrect
Hi , Surprisingly enough , my samba started not mapping previous days, giving the error "The pasword is incorrect. Try again later" from windows 98. But the previous week , i could map anything with no problem..So I started checking samba, searching samba faqs and archives . Diagnosis tests could not clear the situation for me , so I decided to upgrade to latest version. Still i have the

Win9x can not see my Samba
I hace just installed samba. It works fine using application on my debian, but from Win98 can not see my samba. I can not achieve to see my samba as part of the NT domain. If I try to find \\mysamba\share (where mysamba is my netbios name) Win98 says "Error 53" Unknown hosts or route to host (in spanish) using my IP instead of "mysamba" produces the same result on Win98, but

Conversely, I can see "Unix Shares" from both Win98 and WinNT 4.0 I followed the instructions found in http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html <http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html> One thing I cannot do is have the FreeBSD machines use Samba to

Ultime9 works - or wine more win9x compatible than NT :-)
Hi, When I was about 17 (4 years ago) I dreamed Ultima9 would run on Wine. No joke - I really dreamed about it. Maybe the many not very successful tries with WineX made my brain to rebell even when I slept ;) I thing with WineX 1.1 or 2.0 it worked but: - 3d sound was broken. - Colors were mixed up + some other rendering problems - I had to hack a bit, because it crashed when it attemped to

Mapping of Network Drive through win9x daip-up networking
Hi all, I have been troubled by this problem for a long time and really hope that someone may help by giving suggestions. I have setup Samba 2.0.3 on a Sun Solaris as a file server and I map drive to Samba by using DOS prompt command "net use". It work very well in the intranet of my office. However, when I dial up from a mobile PC with win98, I try again with the command "net

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter, i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for something that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only thing perhaps interesting to you could be this: http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x I think the problem lyes in the new way samba

Mapping of Network Drive through win9x dail-up networking
Hi Thomas, Really Thanks for your advice. I have tried your suggestions but problems still remain. My findings is that some Windows, regardless of version, can map to Samba through dial-up networking but some just cannot. I try to find the difference between these Windows but failed. Login scripts and Win9x clients
Hi all, I have two systems using Win98 and one using Win95. These three systems do not automatically execute their login scripts. I can map the network drives manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly

Win2k and Win9x printer drivers from 2.0.7?
Hello, All. Is it possible to have a Samba 2.0.7 server provide printer drivers for both Windows 98 and 2000 clients? I'm currently delivering Win98 drivers with great success, but we're beginning to have Windows 2000 clients on the network and I've been unable to trick Samba 2.0.7 into providing the proper files. Note that the Samba server provides just file and print services;

Win9x clients not 'seeing' each other
Hi there, I have a somewhat wide experience with samba. I've succesfully installed it as a client as well as a PDC on Windows networks. The last time, however, there has been an issue with the win9x stations. I've setup the Samba server over Linux to act as a PDC for the domain. I use dhcp to assign the network configuration to the hosts, and the only protocol installed on them is

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

Help needed using Samba over SSH (DOS works, Win9x doesn't)
Hi all, I've been trying to mount partitions on a UNIX machine behind a firewall on a Windows machine. This works fine inside the firewall, but from outside I need to tunnel through it using SSH. I can get this to work from a DOS window on the Windows machine by forwarding port 139, but when I try to access a file from the GUI, I get a "bad directory" error on windows. An

Win 9x and WinNT Clients connecting to Samba-Server
Hello, I know I should get rid of the problem by my own, but unfortunally I failed. So I ask: I`ve a subnet of win9x and WinNT clients connecting to our Linux file server (no more servers in this subnet) via samba 2.02. All win95 can see and mount services of the Samba server. But win98 and WinNT can only see the server but can not connect to a service. I`ve no encryption and security= user in

seeing/setting file or directory owners from win9x just like from nt/w2k
Hi All, Is there a way (speak command/wsh script) that allows a win9x workstation that is logged into a samba domain server (running onlinux for example) to see from the workstation what owner a certain file or directory has? Under win2k the "dir /q" command does this adequately. And if this is possible, is it then possible for someone to change the ownership of a file to another
