Synchronising password of some AD users with an external LDAP?
I'm in a situation where I should establish an external (i.e. non-AD)
LDAP directory for my employer for various web-based authentication
purposes. I don't think that Samba--or Windows AD, for that matter--in
and itself would be the best tool for this purpose; so far I've been
reviewing 389 DS, ApacheDS, OpenDJ and plain old OpenLDAP, but have made
no final decision yet.
Now however,

VM's in a HA-configuration - synchronising vm config files
Hi,
i'd like to establish a HA-Cluster with two nodes. My services will run inside vm's, the vm's are stored on a FC SAN, so every host has access to the vm's. But how can i keep the config files (xml-files under /etc/libvirt/qemu) synchronised ? Is there a possibility to store the config files somewhere else ? E.g. a partitition with ocfs2 on the SAN ?
If not, what would you do

Synchronising Japanese Characters in Rsync
Hi there,
I have searched the rsync website, as well as an extensive search on google,
but have been unable to come up with a definitive answer regarding whether
rsync will synchronise files and directories which have Japanese characters
in them.
I am using an English language version of Linux, which has some directories
shared via samba. Both English and Japanese language windows clients

PATCH: --write-devices to allow synchronising to a block device
Hello list,
I found this patch in the archive of the mailing list and a diff in the current rsync-patches git master.
The current rsync-patches-3.0.8.tar.gz doesn't contain this patch.
Why this?
I adapted the current version from the git master so it compiles a patched 3.0.8 version.
The source is also patched with the copy-devices diff.
But sadly I get a error message and can't find a

Synchronising NT and Unix Passwords
Hi,
I've been handed the administration of our Solaris 2.5.1 Server and have recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.5a.
As the server is in a predominantly NTsp3 environment it was requested that when the NT passwords change (each month) the Unix Passwords should also change. All the NT and Win95 Clients are currently authenticating using Plain Text Passwords.
Also the current security level is

Synchronising NT, unix and Samba passwords
Our Samba is working perfect except that when a users NT password expires
and the user changes it they can't access the share anymore from Windows NT
explorer. At the moment i have to log on to our unix system and change the
unix and samba passwords manually to match the new NT password. I've been
looking through all the websites on Samba but nothing has helped. I've done

PATCH: --write-devices to allow synchronising to a block device
Hi List,
I had a need recently to efficiently synchronise between some large LUNs
(boot drive disks) at two different datacentres. Solutions like drbd and
$proprietary_array_vendors_software were overkill - we only needed
(wanted!) to periodically synchronise these LUNs whenever major changes
were generated on the source. On the other hand however, re-sending the
entire disk contents each time

Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when
writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on
the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem.
Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date)
Samba Logfile for Machine account is below.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Multiple errors on puppet client runs: "A section with name updates already exists"
Hello,
I''m currently running Puppet 0.25.5-1 on CentOS 5.5. Everything has
been going swimmingly until a couple of weeks ago, when I began
receiving errors on one of my nodes. The node in question is also my
puppetmaster, but the errors seem client-related. The errors are:
err: //yumrepos::centosbase/Yumrepo[addons]: Failed to retrieve
current state of resource: A section with name

[Fwd: Re: Regarding non-streaming Ogg]
This is my previous conversation with Colin Perkins at IETF regarding
audio/vorbis. For interested parties. Last two paragraphs are the most
interesting ones.

Odp: Currency return calculations
My mistake sir. I was literally engrossed in my stupid logic, and while doing so, overlooked the simple and very effective solution you had offered. Sorry once again sir and will certainly try to be very careful in future.
Thanks again and have a great weekend sir.

Let's put it this way...thank you all! The trick is to get the font files in the font folder as well as in the registry. Earlier, in the back of my mind, I was wondering if it was a registry issue, but I wasn't ready to go there and didn't know at the time where fonts

[pardon me if this retreads some ground, but I'm just getting up to speed on this issue]
so am I to understand --
application/ogg is for downloading, and will invoke an app that supposedly can parse *any* ogg file --
audio/vorbis is for streaming -- but this is narrowly defined as vorbis audio only. Presumably the thinking is that a streaming application is likely to be less

problem with patch ms04-044 breaking SMB printer shares
We recently discovered after applying Microsoft Windows 2000 patch
ms04-044 to our computers we can no longer communicate with our samba
server we use for spooling printers.
Symptoms:
- when trying to display printer queue status, we get a "Failed to open,
retrying" message across the top of the queue window
- from within various applications, trying to open a printer dialog
