MS DFS and File Replication
Hi I've no idea if anyone can help with this, or if it's even a good idea, but I'll give it a go.......... I've been charged with providing a level of fail-over with a Samba implementation, and without going down the shared storage/cluster approach it was suggested that we consider using the File Replication Service in Win2k to mirror a complete share tree from the primary SMB

Samba AD Printer Failover
Hai James, On this page: https://www.unix-ninja.com/p/CUPS_Printing_Setup_Mini-HOWTO At 3.2 HA is described there, but this not totaly what you want i think. But is you want something to think about. I recently read: https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/how-to-set-up-nginx-high-availability-with-pacemaker-corosync-and-crmsh-on-ubuntu-1604/ Im thinking the technique used here is usable. Im

What is the best way to setup Auto Failover Redundancy for Vicidial with Asterisk on CentOS or other Linux OS?
There seems obviously quite a lot of possible setup for server clustering and redudancy, but let's say considering about three mid-range servers only with FoneBridge --- What could be the best way to setup Auto Failover Redundancy for Vicidial with Asterisk on CentOS or other Linux OS? looking for good DFS implementation advice
I have read through some of the info on using dfs roots and I am needing some advice. Since a unc is still \\servername\ based it occurs to me that the only way to do this properly is to create a smb.conf file that publishes a netbios name like \\dfsroot -- Then, to create a failover system, I would take that config file and copy it around to multiple samba server. Then, have some kind of watch or

Redundant DFS via DNS entries?
Hi: I'm trying to create a group of samba/NFS servers. The NIS/NFS/Automount part has always worked fine. Now I'm trying to duplicate what automount does w/ DFS. A single DFS server would be a single point of failure. I need redundant DFS. I've configured a pair of samba servers, w/ DFS on each one. Each machine has a few non-dfs shares referred to by dfs links. I've

Problem in working with domain DFS links
Hi, First, I will try to make my terminology clear: There are two "things" MS calls DFS: 1. Server/share DFS - in this case you can define a "virtual server/share" that when a client tries to connect to, the server will direct it to another, real, server/share to which the client should connect. The virtual server/share may contain one or more real server/share

Dfs - Load Balancing
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with using the Dfs functionality within Samba. I've been searching for any performance information and or documentation regarding Dfs in particular load balancing i.e. 1) How does it load balance? Is it some sort of round robin? 2) Is there a limit to the number of servers that can used in the load balance? 3) How many requests per

I don't know what information would be helpful. I will give some but also try not to waste bits. I am using LDAP. My username is 'davt01'. I am able to login to my samba pdc just fine. I get these logs when I try to access //server/foobar. Also see below for some relevant configs: [2004/01/28 15:14:37, 3] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(265) check_ntlm_password: sam

Failover Design
Hello All, I've been investigating and playing with asterisk to see how it would work out as a small-medium business pbx to handle mostly interoffice/branch communication and a possibly communication out to pstn in later stages of implementation. (All communication would be VoIP internally with possibly 4 pstn lines at the HQ with either a TDM04B or spa3000s and 1-2 pstn lines across 7-8

Redundancy / Failover
I've been evaluating Asterisk for a while, and things seem to be going very well. The issue of redundancy and automatic fail-over is now on my mind. I searched the archives and googled for solutions, but didn't really come up with much. We'll be using queues (modified), which precludes some of the standard redundancy solutions, since the queue needs to know all the agents

DFS Shares (Clustered)
Good Day, We experience the following when we have outages or perform disaster recovery exercises. Our DFS Shares come from a Windows cluster with 2 servers, each one in a different location. When the server that we have active connections to goes offline, the server has an issue connecting to the second server. This even happens under a controlled shutdown and startup situation. If we

[CFT] multi server failover setup
I''ve been meaning to test this setup somewhere for a while, but never got the right app/(real) traffic/hardware to do it with. So maybe somebody can try it out and let us know if this works... It''s for applications running the same code/data on a cluster of machines, so this doesn''t apply to the majority of low-traffic sites out there. The goal is to avoid having to

simple load balancing/failover for OWA
We are building an exchange cluster with two front end Outlook Web Access servers. We would like to at least have some sort of failover, and prefereably load balancing for them. The MS recommended way is to use NLB, but for various reasons that's not working with our set up. We are looking to set up a single linux server and use something like LVS to load balance/fail over the
