PDC/BDC Questions
Software:
OS: Redhat 9
Samba Ver: Samba 3.0.0 (Plus excel writelock patch, waiting for 3.0.2!)
OpenLDAP Ver: 2.0.27-8
Just a quick question about PDC / BDC interaction, my plan is to distribute Samba (with slave ldap backend) BDCs to remote facilities, as well as have one on each network segment in the hopes of avoiding unnecessary nmb broadcast traffic.
My question is this: Will the PDC /

3.0rc4 + ldap backend (Advice? Suggestions?)
Howdy Folks,
I'm working on implimenting centralized authentication for a mixed
environment:
- Samba(3.0rc4) -> Win2k/XP
OpenLDAP User Store -> - nss_ldap -> linux/unix
- FreeRadius -> Cisco/HP Networking Equip
(My apologies if that doesn't look right for anyone)
I have a functional ldap database (openldap-2.0.27-8), and I'd very much
like to use Samba 3.x (been

Samba 3.0 + LDAP userPassword -> sambaNTPassword manual sync?
First, the software:
Samba 3.0.0
OpenLDAP 2.0.27
nssldap / pam_ldap
Redhat 9
This may be more of a question for the OpenLDAP mailing list.. but does
anyone know of a method (perhaps using slappasswd?) to hand-sync userPassword
attributes to sambaNTPassword attributes?
Deploying Samba 3.0 as pdc pretty soon, used Migration Tools on the mail
server soon, and I'd really like to be able to tell

Strong Password Enforcement (Windows-side)
Before I begin, big thanks to John Terpstra for helping me out with my
previous issues.
But alas I have another issue, I need to enforce strong passwords on
windows side (i.e. ctrl+alt+delete change password), minimum password
length, can't be dictionary words, etc. etc.
(Setup is Samba 3.0.0 as PDC with LDAP passdb)

Samba 3.0 + LDAP as PDC
At the risk of having my inbox flooded with another 10,000 Emails from
"Microsoft" proporting the "latest security update"..
Now that smb3.0 is out and about, I'd really like to use it for
authenticating windows users / PDC (With BDC in the plans)
My problem is that there seems to be little to zero up to date
documentation on how to integrate Samba and LDAP, the most I

Ext3+acl vs XFS
Software:
- Samba 3.0 (Stable)
- OpenLDAP 2.0.27
- Windows 2000 clients
I'd like to impliment full-blown nt-style permissions on my existing
Samba (with LDAP backend) server / shares. (i.e. file properties-->
security: different groups / users, with different permissions etc. etc.)
Now I've dug around and found that this can be supported either via ext2/3
+ some ACL patch (anyone got

The simple answer is yes. Samba's pdb_ldap code supports binding to a replica LDAP server, and will also follow

The LIBS line at the top of the Makefile read:

Is there somewhere else that I need to add -lsocket?

Status on fixes for MS04-11/MS04-12/KB828741 issues
I realise that a large number of sites have been bitten by the bad
interaction between this hotfix, and Samba.
I have finally managed to spend some time looking into this, and have
reproduced it in my test environment. There appears to be an issue with
the NTLMSSP layer used by windows clients to wrap password change
requests.
Fortunately, I have also shown that it is possible to construct a

Specifying a fixed uid for RedHat RPM PrivSep user
I'm a little unconfortable with the way the privsep user is created in
the RedHat spec files. In particular the way a fixed UID is specified.
Now it looks (from a glance at the apache/bind spec file) that it is
'the way it is done' - but is there a register of these numbers
somewhere?

I'm sending this out again because although I know what causes the problem
now, I'm still not sure what to do about it . . .

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Ah HA!.
OK we do all the steps in my previous missive and everything looks fine,
landscape, collating the whole works. This is on a Laserjet 4000 with the
latest PCL6 driver.
The firm still has a good number of Laserjet 4s so we dutifully load up the
latest PCL5E driver for the 4 and connect to the 4 on a couple of
workstations.
Everything goes to hell.

One way trust relationship between Win2k and Samba 2. x.x PDC
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but would it then be possible to
join a "real" NT4 or Win2k BDC to the Samba domain and establish the trust
relation from our other Win2k? Or does the trust relationship have to be
"registered" with the entire domain and therefore all the domain
controllers?

Vedr.: Re: Migration from WindowsNT to Samba
I was thinking of using rsync, since it has the ability of mapping the
written user-name instead of using UID's. Anyone know how this work on
WindowsNT? I've read, that CygWin hasn't the ACL's properly implemented
yet?
Does another "cross-platform" exist, that can map between the written
usernames?

TE410P -> Dialogic D240SC
Basically, have an old IVR application running under Apex's Omnivox software on a box with 4 old intel dialogic D240SCs, and would like to allow remote clients to gain access to aforementioned IVR application via softphone, 7960, ata, etc via asterisk with a TE410P.
Unfortunately, all I know about the dialogics is that they're configured for D4/AMI, which I believe I have configured right

AW: W2K RAS Server in Samba 3.0.0 Domain
I patched samba to always return ACCESS_GRANTED for testing.
So I came to this:
IASSAM.LOG
[556] 23:23:53:671: Inserting attribute msNPAllowDialin.
[556] 23:23:53:671: Successfully retrieved per-user attributes.
Dialin now "only" fails with "Dialin not allowed for user", but I'm not able
to set it in UserMgr.
Is it difficult to map this attribute?

Samba Feature Usage: Does anybody use these options? Can we kill them?
As part of the effort towards Samba 3.0, a number of features have
disappeared. This message is intended to gauge the reaction that would
occur if Samba 3.0 was released with these features still absent.
Users who need these features should indicate exactly how vital they
feel they are, and (if possible) the effort they would be able to put
into reimplementing/supporting/testing it if it was

R: 3rd POSTING: winbind mixcase DOMAIN+username???
Hallo Andrew,
thanks for the answer (for the hints in particular, I'm new on samba mailing
list), I'm working on a fax server based on the original implamentation of
Pedro Fraile you can read all the particular here:

The goal of "my" fax server implementation:
Users authentication via samba/winbind/pam
