Windows user authentication to Samba server?
Hi,
My users login to their PC's with the windows domain and username and
their windows login is authenticated by the Windows AD servers. They
then try and map a drive from my Samba server which authenticates
against it's /etc/passwd file (non encrypted passwords).
Hence the users are logged into Windows as shoreham\grma when they try
and map a drive on the Samba server - what username

Having a problem ...
Running a Windows 2000 domain; recently we've made some security
changes to deny anonymous users from being able to get at our user list.
It would appear that one of my Domain Controllers hadn't been rebooted
after that security change, and now that it has been rebooted, I can't
mount smb shares off of one of our if the security setting is in place.
On a Windows 2000 Domain

VFS module core dump in make_connection
Hi,
I have a problem with a VFS module that I am developing. The module
has been runing fine under 3.0.6, but then I didn't have time to work
on it for a while and meanwhile I upgraded samba to the latest sarge
debian release 3.0.14a and now that I have got the sources and again
recompiled my module and included it into the /usr/lib/samba/vfs dir,
its now core dumping. I am sort of at loss

Guest account access with User mode security?
Hi,
I have a Samba server that I have just transitioned from Samba v2 to v3
and at the same time I have changed from share mode security to user
mode security.
I having problems allowing guest access to some of my shares on the
server. I have some shares (such as apps and cdrom etc) that I would
like to allow anyone to access - even if they do not have an login
account on the Samba server. This

User nobody logging in to shares instead of domain us er
I am assuming that you have guest ok = yes, and that guest is the nobody
account. It sounds like your name lookups are not searching winbind, do
you have winbind in your nsswitch.conf file for password and group? Have
you restarted your nameservice lookups (automatic on solaris, nsadmin
restart on Irix, don't know about other platforms but a reboot should
certainly take care of it if you

Samba authentication slow after upgrade to Samba 3
Hi,
I have just upgraded a server from Samba 2 to Samba 3 and some of the
Windows clients are taking a long time to authenticate shares (1 or 2
minutes). Eventually the username/password box appears and then when you
enter a correct password, all is fine - it is just the initial
authentication.
This is a simple UNIX password Samba server (with NIS) and I have set it
to not use encrypted

Samba server access through a firewall
Hi,
I am running a Samba server in a project office which is separated from
our main company network by a firewall.
We allow all traffic from our company network (where the Windows client
machines are located) into the project office network (where the Samba
server is located) but only allow previously established connections
back. Also a few specified services are allowed from the project

Rsync - slow performance problem...
Hi,
I am running rsync (rsync-2.6.3-1) on CentOS 4 (2.6.9-11.EL).
I notice that the performance is pretty slow ranges between 2 and 6
MB/s.
The command that I use from a remote machine to this, the archiving
host, is:
rsync -avz -e ssh ./dir archsrv:/archive/DATA
An investigation with top shows that the system is cpu bound rather than
IO bound and that the sshd process is consuming 75% of

How should guest access work with Samba 3 and User Mode Security???
Hi,
Please can someone confirm to me how guest access should work on a Samba
3 Server configured for User Mode Security.
Am I correct in thinking that shares configured as guest OK should be
accessible by users without accounts on the server and hence they should
not have to supply login name and password. (This used to work OK on
Samba 2 and Share Mode security)
I want to share out

Encrypted logon funny
I do not understand the following output.
The actual command and error are:

Password:

pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.)
SMB connection failed
It seems the user validates at the os level , but later fails when

Can't change windows directory...
Hi,
I'm trying to change my "windows" directory to be C:\\WINNT,
i.e not the default C:\\windows. I used to do this using the
wine config file ([wine] section), however it seems to be ignored
now (have "WINE REGISTRY Version 2" at top of "config").
Link "~/.wine/dosdevices/c:" is correctly pointed.
I am using build version 20050830.
Anyone know how
