How do I get Winbind accounts in LDAP?
I've seen this posting before but I need to get a grasp on this. I am using winbindd for users that don't have a local account on a Linux box. I thought that placing the entries below in the smb.conf would create users in ou=Idmap. Instead the ou=Idmap increments the uidNumber with every user that is added, but the user ID mappings are stored in /usr/local/var/locks/winbindd_idmap.tdb. What

Trying to join a Solaris 8 box to Windows 2000 AD.

Thanks in advance Clive Elsum I can get samba-3.0alpha20 working if I include reference to our NT PDC in the smb.conf file and do a net rpc join command. DNS resolutions is not working in a Solaris 10 DomU
Hi, I found a problem with the DNS resolution in a Solaris 10 DomU. The Test Environment was: I installed the Xen bfu on top of Solaris snv43 and booted the Dom0 with Solaris. Then I installed and booted a Solaris 10 DomU. In the Solaris 10 Dom0 the DNS resolution works; in the Solaris 10 DomU the DNS resolution does not work as expected: Inside the Solaris 10 DomU I can''t use

Samba Winbind and LDAP backend
Just a quick question, it may sound a bit stupid but I just want to make sure. I have a Solaris 9 machine running winbind, the backend is an OpenLDAP database running on a RedHat 9 machine. My question is, apart from the 'smbpasswd -w' command and the obvious stuff in smb.conf, do I have to set up the LDAP client on Solaris for Samba to be able to put new mappings into the LDAP database?

multipl disk failures cause zpool hang
Hi, There seems to be a few threads about zpool hang, do we have a workaround to resolve the hang issue without rebooting ? In my case, I have a pool with disks from external LUNs via a fiber cable. When the cable is unplugged while there is IO in the pool, All zpool related command hang (zpool status, zpool list, etc.), put the cable back does not solve the problem. Eventually, I

Auto mapping to windows home drives?
This could be quite simple but I don't know how to do it. Does anyone know how I can automatically mount a users home drive (which is located on a windows server) when they log in? Is there a pam module for that? Thanks very much, Sapan

Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
Hello all, I hope this is an easy one, I've read all the howtos but I'm still very hazy on how to do this. What I want to do is replace my NT4 PDC with a Samba 3.0 PDC with an LDAP backend. I've got my OpenLDAP up and running with the basic People, Computers and Groups ou's. I've put the builtin NT groups in too. I have Samba 3.0 functioning as a BDC The trouble is

RE: Back to 3.0.1, Winbind and Solaris 9 (Mike Dorofe ev )
Hi Mike, Thanks for replying! I have tried that but I still have the same problem. I think that PAM is doing its job, I've set up logging so that everything in pam.conf logs to /var/log/pamlog. In pamlog I see "user 'ganguly' granted access". There is something else that is stopping this working, I just can't see what it is. Any ideas? -----Original Message-----

"getent passwd" doesn't list domain users
__________________ Hi all, I've configured samba 3.0 as a domain memeber in NT 4.0 domain. Server has been added to the domain, without any problems, BUT, for three days...., I'm not able to find a way how to use NT domain resourses for this samba server. I can list domain users and groups with "wbinfo" command from but "getent passwd" lists only the local

Patch to Samba 3.0.1?
Dear list, Is it sufficient to patch my 3.0.0 install to 3.0.1 on my Solaris 9 machine? Or do I have to recompile the whole lot from scratch? Does the new version put all the files in the right places, e.g. pam_winbind.so and libnss_winbind.so? (I think the HOWTO still says you have to copy these to the right places and make links if you want to use winbind) I'm just wondering whether it

One last try...winbind Solaris 9
I'm still stuck on the logging in part of winbind on Solaris 9. I've applied the required patch to the OS that is mentioned in the HOWTO and tried various other things. When I login at a command line console with a NT username and password I get a message (I've configured syslog.conf) saying that I've been granted access by pam_winbind but that is as far as it goes. I get no

Rejoining domain after cluster failover
Hello. We're having issues running Samba 2.2.8-a1, on Solaris 8 (SPARC) under Veritas VCS 3.5 clustering (HA active-passive). Every time we have a cluster failover (we're testing), we have to re-join the domain [ADS not NT] (e.g., 'smbpasswd -j XYZ -r XYZPDC -UAdminRightsUser%password'). Otherwise, we cannot connect to the shares, and 'wbinfo -t' returns 'Secret is

wbindo slow
good morning everyone. I apologize if it is recurrent. But not yet found a solution. I have a problem of slowness when running "wbinfo -u" command. Analyzing the outputs of "strace" command, I noticed some timeout. After several searches, I found information that indicated remove dead domains. I do not have these domains. I performed a fresh installation. My scenario is a
