Samba & Windows password change
We have Samba authenticating to ldap and we want our users to be able to change their Samba password from their Windows 98 computers. We see this when we try to change passwords from Windows 98 machines now: Apr 22 15:34:26 localhost smbd[19796]: [2003/04/22 15:34:26.550425, 0, pid=19796, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldap_connect_system(316) Apr 22 15:34:26 localhost

re-using a member server?
OK - I must be close, but I'm lost... I have a sernet member server that I built and joined to a test win2008R2 AD Domain Controller ("the AD-DC"). (Version 4.1.14-SerNet-Debian-9.wheezy) I used Louis van Belle's setup script (manually executed, just 'cause I'm that kind of guy). https://secure.bazuin.nl/scripts/4-setup-sernet-samba4-MEMBER-wheezy.sh The

Managing Samba4 shares from Windows "Security Tab Missing"
When I try to manage samba shares from windows, I cannot reliably get the Security Tab to show up. I have tried many reprovisions, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. How the domain is provisioned... samba-tool domain provision \ --domain=avails \ --host-name=fs.avails.com \ --host-ip=10.2.2.1 \ --adminpass='not2forget!' \

Trying to mount with minimalist smb.conf
I am trying to mount a share on a remote machine using a miminal smb.conf as suggested in the Samba HOWTO. Nmbd and smbd are running on the target machine. The calling machine (server?) has the name of the target (linda2) in /etc/smbshares. When I try to mount I get the error message: Got a positive name query response from 127.0.0.1 ( 192.168.0.4 ) Connecting to 192.168.0.4 at port 445

Preexec and smb.conf
Hi Steve, And thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it does not solve my problem. What I?m trying to do is to create two dirs using preexec in the same service. It works well as long as I?m only creating one directory, what I can?t figure out is how to create the second directory withing the same service. Eg. How would I continue after the last "fi" in the script to check for the second

mount.cifs and permissions
I have set up a Samba 3.0.7 server (with LDAP password database), and it works perfectly for Windows clients. Now we came to the need of supporting one Linux workstation (with SAMBA 3.0.7 client already installed) in addition to those Windows PCs. Kernel is 2.6.7 on both the client and the server. The problem is the home directories. Usually (without SAMBA) I just share them via NFS in such

Problems copying digital images to Samba Share
I am trying to copy some digital images to a directory on my Redhat 7.3 Samba 2.2.3a-6 server and am getting extra files in the directory. I have included my SMB.Conf file contents below in case that is relevant. The files being copied reside on a Windows 2000 workstation and were created by Jasc Image robot. These files would have been accessed by both a Windows 2000 machine as well as a Windows

Hanging, uninterruptible smbd-process in "D"-state
Hello, I run a samba server for windows users who access their user data via samba. The samba server is NOT the domaincontroller. This task is performed by a native windows machine. The samba server is running on a pve virtual machine. All data that samba delivers to the windows users are stored on two NFS servers (also VMs) and accessed via an automounted NFS mount for each user on the

How to - Samba, winbind and Active Directory
Hi, I finally was able to to get samba/winbind to authenticate off W2k3 Active Directory. I seen a lot of info on the web on how to do this but I never seem to have one site that got me through it all. Anyway, with all the info I gathered I was able to put it all together, get it working and documented all the steps I used. I'm running Redhat 4 (2.6.9-55.0.2) with compiled Samba 3.0.25c

Accounts randomly clobber on user add (LDAP, XP, Samba PDC)
Hi folks, This has been quite a mystery to us; we are in the process of migrating over from workgroups to a domain with Samba as the PDC. Every now and then when we add a machine to the domain it clobbers a random user's account in our LDAP database. I though it might be a problem with the smbldap-tools included in the samba dist., but after reviewing the code and retooling

Weird problem with mixed up id's
Several users get sometimes the wrong profile. I have one example here: The user bfs1a-15 logs in. The batch file is created, transfered to the client and executed. Among others there is a line saying: net use p: /home The user gets an error, saying "the password for \\fileserver\fg13z-15 is wrong, type in the for \\fileserver\fg13z-15:" (translated from german). I know from the past
