Clustering and winbindd
Hi all! I'm working on a project that, funnily enough, involves clustering and "winbindd". Specifically, we have a 2-node cluster configured in an active-active configuration whereby both servers are running Samba, each "exporting" different filesystems that are backed on a shared storage subsystem such that at any given time, one node can takeover from the other. The

incorrect URL (PR#1764)
Hi - a tiny bug report: the list of mirror sites given at www.r-project.org/ mentions http://cran.mirror.aarnet.edu.au/ This domain does not exist (well, from Western Australia netscape says the domain doesn't exist) but I found the mirror at http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/CRAN/ regards Adrian Baddeley -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

AARNET mirror (Australia) of CRAN/R now available
Thanks to the efforts of Jason Andrade at AARNET and the CRAN people there is now an Australian mirror of CRAN/R. The mirror will be updated daily. It is http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/CRAN/ ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/CRAN/ To quote the web page "R, also known as `GNU S', is a system for statistical computation and graphics. It consists of a language plus a run-time environment with

Assigning functions in Rprofile
I use the ugly hack shown below as my .Rprofile (mainly because I couldn't find any other way to spawn a new mozilla window on starting R or calling help.start(), but then send all the help html documents to that new window). With a recent change from a cvs checkout to the released 1.9.0 I find that the new hs() appears if there is nothing of that name in .RData, but if there is the old hs()

hdf library for windows
The question puzzled me at first, because of your use of "library". It looks as if the hdf5 r "package" utilises the "windows hdf5 library" binary. My reading is that you will have to compile the package yourself after you have downloaded the hdf windows dll from hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu The instructions are in win.readme.txt of the package source which you can download at

Australian CRAN mirror
One of the CRAN mirror links for Australia is not correct, and I'm wondering how to have it updated. The incorrect address is http://cran.mirror.aarnet.edu.au/ and the correct one is http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/CRAN/. Regards, Andrew C. Tripp-Lite SMART1500LCDT
I bought this UPS to use with NUT. I've used Belkin, APC, CyberPower, Best, Powerware upses with NUT on dozens of servers beginning with RHEL3. http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Display-Protection-SMART1500LCDT/dp/B009TZTGWK Since this was advertised as USB HID, I didn't expect any problems. Bad idea (should have gotten the Cyberware with somewhat less runtime). Initially, it seems to

request: add TCP buffer options to rsync CLI?
We see absolutely dismal performance from Canberra to Perth via Aarnet or Grangenet (gig connections across the country). With standard rsync on a tuned tcp stack, we see about 700k/s. I started playing with the --sockopts and have increased the performance to 1.4M/s which is better, but still way off the pace. There are similar patches for ssh at

Samba 3 as a Windows 2000 ADS Domain Member
I have read and followed http://samba.mirror.aarnet.edu.au/samba/docs/man/domain-member.html#ads-member regarding setting up a samba 3 box as an ADS Domain Member. But am unsure of how it is suppose to work in real life. Do you still need unix groups on the samba 3 machine to map to the ADS groups? I noticed some ldap idmap dn settings but am uncertain if this can work off the Win2k ADS or

finding files on remote rsync servers
Newbie needs advice, please. Sorry for the length of posting: I use rsync because it is such a great tool to reduce my download time for ISO files of different distros on remote servers that I want to update on my local disk. I've read the man file, the FAQ and the Wiki, and all have helped me understand much better my use of rsync for what I'm trying to do. However, I'm stuck on

Trust, users, groups, scripts, etc. questions.
I have some things I'd like someone brighter than me to explain. #1. Add xxxx scripts. Everyone seems to put these scripts in their smb.conf. The add user and add machine make sense, and they work, but explain to me how the other scripts, such as add user to group, are supposed to work? When do they get called, etc.? I guess most of these involve the smbldap tools. #2. Here's my

Rsync hanging, even with timeout and contimeout specified
Here's the details and some debugging I did for starters, but I have no idea where to proceed from here. Help please? Command to reproduce should be in the strace output below. -Dan P.S. NaN when using dffits, stemming from lm.influence call
Hi all I'm getting a NaN returned on using dffits, as explained below. To me, there seems no obvious (or non-obvious reason for that matter) reason why a NaN appears. Before I start digging further, can anyone see why dffits might be failing? Is there a problem with the data? Consider: # Load data dep <-

A new snapshot
Hi, I have released a new snapshot of GnuPG, I hope this is one of the last ones before 1.0.2 ;-) This is still a BETA VERSION and not intended for general use. ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/pub/gcrypt/devel/gnupg-1.0.1e.tar.gz (1600k) The usual diff file is also available, but this time there is only a detached signature for this diff file, because I noticed to late that the --not-dash-escaped option
