Why does old kernel boot when new kernel installed?
I thought I'd summarise this with a proper subject line: 1. We used up2date to upgrade the kernel of a 7.2 machine that is doing far too much journalling (kjournald at 50% CPU+ often). 2. It installed fine, but when we reboot - GRUB only shows the old 2.4.7-10 although there are 3 kernels listed in grub.conf My Question is "How can we select booting to 2.4.18-24.7 when GRUB lonly lists

Disable Dovecot LDA
So there is no way to skip Postfix for incoming messages and go directly to LMTP/LDA but I need two instances of Postfix in that case? Regarding your second question - it is required to be complaint with Direct Trust. Greetings. Total newbie with Ext3. I selected when I upgraded my system to RH7.2. I upgraded my system again to RH8.0. Here is some info: [root@world root]# cat /proc/mounts rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 /dev/root / ext3 rw 0 0 /proc /proc proc rw 0 0 usbdevfs /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs rw 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0 /dev/hdd1 /mnt/genericdata1 ext2 rw 0 0 Ok, so

shared storage: rw on one node and ro on second node
Hi list, I recently came up with the need for the storage, shared between two nodes; one would do all the r/w to it and the other would mount it r/o and serve it to the client boxen. I want to use ext3 in this setup, since i trust it the most. My question is: is this possible? How would the r/o node handle the metadata updates that the r/w node would be doing? If there is some fundamental

Dovecot and thunderbird authentication issue?
Hello, I'm using Dovecot 2.2, Postfix 3.5, and am atempting to get the latest version of Thunderbird to work. I tried account autoconfig which did not work, so I had to manually enter information and correct other information. On my server dovecot supports plane and login authentication methods but only over starttls i've got a letsencrypt certificate. My thunderbird configuration looks

ext3-2.4-0.9.0
An update of the ext3 journalling filesystem for 2.4 kernels is available at http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ Patches are against 2.4.6-ac1 and 2.4.6. Changes since 0.0.8 include: - Multiplied the version numbering by ten to cater for bugfix releases against the 0.9.0 stream. - The main thrust has been the removal of a number of changes in the core kernel which were required

lmtp and recipient_delimiter
Hi list, I have a small problem with recipient_delimiters contained in usernames. Recently I have extended recipient_delimiter from "+" to "+-" in both Postfix and Dovecot (using lmtp) and now any user that have a '-' in it's username can't receive mail anymore, because lmtp truncates the localpart after the '-' and of course can't find the first

Reverting to etx2???
I am in the odd situation of needing to revert my root partition back to ext2 so that it may be resized. I prefer to use Partition Magic at the moment and it can only work with partitions of ext2, not ext3. I believe that the documentation for ext3 exists at the main web site, http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/. That is my next destination but as the answer may not exist there, I

ext3-2.4-0.9.9
Patches against 2.4.10-pre4 and 2.4.9-ac9 are at http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ It's a fairly large change. The most significant parts are * the inclusion of Stephen's error-handling work, which is designed to remount the fs read-only in the presence of software and hardware errors, rather than forcing a panic. * Stephen's fix for the journal_revoke assertion

Disable Dovecot LDA
Desired flow looks like: Dovecot ---------------------> Postfix --> Relay Server -? Dovecot <-- LMTP/LDA <-- Postfix <---------------------? Top part of that flow works fine - a message will get to the relay server and it will be send back to the postfix for a local delivery but then it will start to loop back to the relay server instead hand over to LMTP/LDA. For some reason

2.2.19+ext3 or 2.4.1x+ext3 ?
I've not been happy with the stories about the "stable" 2.4.x kernels. Everywhere I read people saying "not for production use". Would you recommend adding ext3 to 2.2.19 (ext3-0.0.7a) or moving to 2.4.1x and using ext3 there (ext3-0.9.12)? -- -IAN! Ian! D. offtopic: rant about thoughtless enabling DMARC checks [was: Re: Bounces?]

I'd say, let Mailman throw all people off the list that have enabled DMARC checking without using exceptions for the lists they are on. It's a known fact that DMARC does not

2.4.14 patch
Hey, Thanks for sending me the patch Wiktor, but I was looking for the patch ext3-2.4-0.9.15-2414.gz . If someone has that let me know. Does it work well with kernel 2.4.14 (any installation issues ?) . Why can't I download from http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3 page. If someone can zip the gz patch and email it to me that would be awesome. My email client acts up sometimes.

2.4.13 patch
Passes all my testing. http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ It's still at 0.9.13. No changes were made apart from resolving the fs.h reject, and retesting. People who have already applied the 2.4.13-pre6 patch to 2.4.13 needn't apply this patch.

Ext3 needs updated "mount" also + SILO note
Just wanted to note that you also need "mount" => 2.11 to use "auto" in fstab. On the homepage http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ it only tells you to use "util-linux" => 2.11 Also, a note about SILO not working with unclean Ext3 would be nice (i.e. make a dedicated ext2 /boot partition if you want to run ext3 on Sparc). /Martin (very new to this list)

ext3-2.4-0.9.10
An ext3 patch against linux 2.4.10 is at http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ This patch is *lightly tested* - ie, it boots and does stuff. The changes to ext3 are small, but the kernel which it patches has recently changed a lot. If you're cautious, please wait a couple of days. The patch retains the buffer-tracing code. This will soon be broken out into a separate patch to make
