[Samba} Can't do roaming profiles (Solved)
Through much help from a guy in my local LUG I found the solution to making roaming profiles work on Win2000 (SP4). 1) You should have SP4 installed. 2) Two registry changes are needed: Use regedit and change the following two dword attributes to 0 "requiresignorseal" "signsecurechannel" 3) Run the group policy editor "gpedit.msc" and enable the

KB824141 on Win2K and Samba PDC with a mandatory profile
This one gave me a headache yesterday: Last updated version of KB824141 hotfix on a Windows 2000 workstation in a domain with Samba PDC has the following consequences: 1. When a user with a mandatory profile logs on, it doesn't load the profile correctly. The cached profile looks like a default profile - empty directories except for the NTUSER.MAN. No Desktop, no Application data ...

XP roaming profile problem (access denied)
Hi! I was hoping someone had seen this problem, and might be able to help me out with it; I've tried the suggestions I found in the mailing lists and on web sites, to no avail. I'm running samba 3.0.2 on RHEL 3, and XP clients seem to occasionally have problems saving the roaming profile, resulting in error messages and the use of the local profile. The problem is when renaming

more roaming profile woes after upgrading to 2.2.8a
I upgraded one of my samba boxes to 2.2.8a after all kinds of problems with roaming profiles not loading corrently. Everybody can now log in (as log as the w2k machine has sp3 or newer) but I still get the following error: Cannot start microsoft outlook. This happens on w2k prof and on my w2k terminal servers. I could fix the workstations by adding their user account to the local

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello, I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue for Windows XP roaming

Problem with roaming profiles and Samba 3.0
Due to a change in W2K SP4 and XP SP1 (see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 327462 at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q327462) Windows checks the owner of a roaming profile folder when logging in. For some reason this check fails with Samba 3.0 (at least with our setup). It works with Samba 2.2. Any suggestions? Please CC me. I'm not on the list. Thanks, Nick

roaming profiles - filesyncing problem with 3.0.10
Since I upgraded from RedHat 9.0b / Samba 2.2.8 to Samba 3.0.10 I have problems with the roaming profiles of my students. Although the log-files show no errors at all, several users reports me that they are loosing files. One time I saw the problem myself, when a user logged in and had not a single file in her 'Personal Files' after logging out and logging in on the same host the whole

Can't do roaming profiles
I need a little advice on finishing off a Samba PDC. I have Samba 3.0.0RC1 installed and working as a PDC on a Redhat AS 3.0 machine. It authenticates users nicely but the "roaming" profiles don't work. Tailing the samba log, I see the an attempt to access the users ntuser.dat file, which doesn't exist before the first logon, when logging in. The profile directory

location of roaming profile
Why is it more secure to create a separate share for storing user profiles? I've tested using: [global] logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U [profiles] path = /var/lib/samba/profiles And this works fine. But, why not just put the profile in the home directory? I can see that a user might save a file on the desktop and then not be able to find it. When I previously used roaming profiles on a
