Cannot delete a file on 2.4.18
Hi, I get the error "Operation not permitted" when I try to delete
a file as root, see some commands below.
- there is no "i" attribute
- it's a problem with the files and not the upper directories
since I can delete a similar file in the same directory
- fsck -f doesn't find any error on the partition
- the partition is mounted rw
If this is not the right place to

quota and selinux on centos 6.5
??? Hi,
I'm facing a challenge with selinux and because I don't got an explanation elsewhere, I'm trying to explain here.
I have decided to mount /var/spool/cron on a separate partition? and apply quota for regular users. But quotacheck replyes with a "permission denied" .
quotacheck: Cannot create new quotafile /var/spool/cron/aquota.user.new: Permission denied

journaled quotas in CentOS6?
Hi
CentOS 6.7 (kernel 2.6.32-573.el6.x86) ...
Wanted to set up group quotas on a new ext4 filesystem. When i was
initialising via quotacheck, received this message
> quotacheck -vcg /HOMES
quotacheck: Your kernel probably supports journaled quota but you
are not using it.
I liked sound of that, so i brushed up on the procedure and modified the
mount line in fstab to:

enable fulldata journaling
Hi,
well I've deployed ext3 on two machines already and so far it does its
job excellently at no (for me) noticable performance loss. I hope it
gets incorporated into stock kernels by Linus soon.
Anyways I've been hearing about ext3 supporting full-data journalling
on a per-file basis but couldn't find any detailed info about it. Even
tried grep'ing throught the source. How

C5 : Deleting un-deletable files ?
During a routine trawl through the ext3 files, I found some astronomical file sizes, billions and billions of GB.
They also has strange user and group names.
I can not delete these "weird files" (the term used by the operating system utilities).
Here are a few examples. The original files were created on Windoze 98 version 2 circa 2001.

do quotas work with ext3?
Hi,
I had ext2 and 2.4.7 kernel , quotas were working ok.
Now when all my filesystems are ext3 I figured out that quotas are not
working.... if I do quotaon , repquota, quotacheck the programs return 0
without any output.....
Does ext3 supports quotas?

Ordered Mode vs Journaled Mode
Hi,
I've been wondering exactly what you gain by using journaled mode over
ordered mode.
Are there any known cases where journaled mode could recover where ordered
mode wouldn't?

Recommended journal size for /boot
I want to convert the last of my filesystems to ext3. The only one
left is /boot. It is not very big however, only about 10MB itself.
Any recommendations on what size journal to put a /boot filesystem of
only 10-20MB?
Oh, BTW: "tunefs -j -J size=..." is awesome. No more gyrations with dd,
chattr, lilo -R, etc. Nice! One note however: even in Stephen's

disk quotas + centos 5,5 +xfs
Hi all,
is any one aware quotas not working in 5,5?
I'm using XFS as a file system.
My fstab has the appropriate usrquota,grpquota but when I try to run;
quotacheck -cug /foo
I get;
quotacheck: Can't find filesystem to check or filesystem not mounted
with quota option.
I already have a large amount of data in the mount. Do quotas get
implemented on only empty filesystems and

chattr +T not implemented?
We run a third party application that creates an inordinate amount of
subdirectories in a single directory. To speed up I/O, I wanted to set
the T attribute on the directory that will hold the subdirectories. The
"chattr +T /usr/local/lepus-bb/a-0607" command returns status 0, but
when I verify the setting, the attribute isn't there:
# lsattr -d /usr/local/lepus-bb/a-0607

quota doesn't appear to work - repquota only updates when quotacheck is run
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem that you experienced in Nov, 2013.
I am using ext4 with journaled quota and the quota usage is only updating when I run quotacheck manually.
Have you found a solution?
Regards,
Alex

quotacheck question
i want to implement disk quota on my /home filesystem (it is going to be a
mail server) so i
read tha appropriate how to's

but then for quota meintenance i stuck into quotacheck
the man page says
quotacheck should be run each time the system boots and mounts non-
valid filesystems. This is most likely to happen after a system

Managing filesystem quotas
I wish to impose a quota on a samba share.
I''ve created a mount, using puppet, enabling usrquota. I''ve then run
quotacheck manually, and edquota manually to set up the quota.
I suppose I could have puppet deliver the aquota.user file, but I don''
think that doesn''t really enable me to rebuild the machine without
manual intervention. What would be really

removing visible journal.dat
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I created all my ext3 partitions a while back, so the journal.dat file is
visable. I'd like to remove them and use the new tune2fs functionality.
Can I just mount the drives as ext2, rm journal.dat, tune2fs -j /dev/hd?? and
then remount as ext3? Or am I missing something?
thanks!

cannot generate tempfile `/tmp/puppet.30616.9'
I have three (out of 90) machines with the error: cannot generate
tempfile `/tmp/puppet.30616.9''
I have plenty of disk and plenty of inodes.
My temp directory is permissioned: drwxrwxrwt 4 root root 20480
2012-05-24 01:33 /tmp
I get these for two puppet items on each row.
The daemon is not running. I run it manually using /usr/sbin/puppetd

Cannot set user quotas
Hello, I am having some trouble getting quota's to work. When I try to
set the quota for a user, it does not show up when I run repquota. I
am doing this on a Redhat (RHEL5) machine (I assume it is the same on
Centos). I think I am missing a step, but this is what I am doing:
(1) I add usrquota to the /etc/fstab file, then reboot
LABEL=/home /home ext3 defaults,usrquota 1 2

Force run of quotacheck at boot
Hi All,
I think I have managed to corrupt my quota files so I need to run
`quotacheck` but that needs the partition to have quotas off or be
unmounted which isn't ideal for a production system :-p
I was trying to find a way to force the system to do a full `quotacheck
-cvuga` on a reboot but on looking in rc.sysinit it seems it will only
force a quotacheck on boot when fsck finds

Adding OST to online Lustre with quota
Hello,
we wounder whether is it possible to add OSTs to the Lustre with
quota support without making it offline?
We tried to do this but all quota information was lost. Despite the fact
that OST was formatted with quota support
we are receiving this error message:
Lustre: 3743:0:(lproc_quota.c:447:lprocfs_quota_wr_type())
