idmap uid range 10000-20000: pam_winbind does NOT work ?
Hi all!
Again, unexpected behaviour!
When I set in smb.conf
idmap uid = 10000-20000
idmap gid = 10000-20000
I CAN change and SEE domain users ang groups as I change the owner of a file on Unix:
chown domain+user ./test.txt
chgrp domain+group ./test.txt
ls -l /tmp
-rw-r--r-- 1 user group 0 Feb 4 20:25 test.txt <- I SEE DOMAIN USER AND GROUP

Hmm, this works fine for me against a Samba 4.4.2 Btrfs backed Samba

Member server only shares locally
Hello
In 2 different subnets I have setup 2 identical samba servers (RH 6.5) as
fileservers for windows clients. Each is a member of it's own AD Domain
(Windows 2003 Servers).
The problem: one of them only is accessible and sharing locally.
On the windows-client, trying to mount a share gives this error:
C:\Users\testuser>net use y: \\samba_server\topfolder /user:testuser

WinXP cant connect Samba_Server which can connect WinXP for files sharing
Hi All Folks.
I encountered following problem
WinXP can't connect Samba_Server but Samba_Server can connect WinXP for
files sharing
WinXP box and Samba_Server are connected directly via a crossover cable as
experiment. Firewall of WinXP is off and ipchains on Samba_Server also off.
(Remark: The WinXP box has been tested via direct connection with a
crossover cable to a WinME box/Win98

PAM (winbind?) auth still does NOT work on Solaris 9
Hi all!
I'm getting STUCK trying to get pam and winbind working.
Using Solaris 9, Samba 3.0.1 (built as ./configure --with-ads --with-pam --with-syslog --with-winbind)
Kerberos 5 is installed.
It looks like everything is working EXCEPT for user auth when telneting, ftping etc...
(Browsing of Samba box and connecting to it works fine and fast!!!)
PLEASE, HELP!
Or, point me the right

Samba as a PDC with LDAP and Kerberos
I've been searching and researching this and I can't seem to find the
answers I'm looking for. I'd like to setup a Samba PDC that Windows
clients will join. The PDC will use an LDAP backend to get authorization
information (username, home directory, etc). The authentication portion
is handled by an MIT Kerberos KDC. I think I'm real close to having it
all together but I'm

Samab-4.10.15 running in FreeBSD Jail
I just wish to ensure that my conclusion respecting Samba, FreeBSD Jails, and
NTP is correct.
1. Unless configured otherwise Windows domain clients will query and obtain
their time from the samba_server DC.
2. Samba_server obtains its time from the OS, in this case a FreeBSD Jail.
3. FreeBSD Jails get their time from their host.

I am working on a FreeBSD jail (12.1p4) using samba410. I have joined this

worked as far as I can tell.
I have these entries in smb4.conf

W2KSP2 vs W2KSP2RP1 - failed logon to Samba 2.2.6
Hello, samba.
I upgraded samba 2.2.5 to samba 2.2.6 in Debian 3.0. Both versions was
built myself by script "rules binary".
Before:
Our network have a few of W2KSP2.rus and a few of W2KSP2RP1.rus. All
workstations can logon to samba 2.2.5.
After:
W2KSP2.rus can't login to samba 2.2.6, though W2KSP2RP1.rus still can
logon to PDC on samba 2.2.6. W2KSP2 tells me, that it can not find

Is it my networking?
I've used samba for the better part of 4 years now.
Never had any real problems that were not easily
resolved. Samba has become the single most important
piece of software in our lab. It has reduced my
administrative headaches considerably.
However, now I have a real problem that I have no clue
on. I'm running a Samba 2.2.8a PDC on Sun Solaris. About
2 months ago, we moved our lab from
