SWAT status report wrong
I just installed 2.0.4b on both of my Sun E4000's. The one is running
fine. The other seems to be running fine too except SWAT reports that
*mbd are _not_ running when they are. Moreover, the status page lists
all the active connections while listing the daemons as not running.
Stopping|starting|restarting does what is supposed to do but the status
of the daemons is still listed as not

swat from 2.2.6 and RH 8.0
I know there have been previous threads about this, but I don't think
they match my problem. I have the xinetd script provided by the
Samba.org 2.2.6 binary RPM, and when I enable it and reload xinetd, I
see xinetd listening in a `netstat --ip -lnp` command. When I point my
browser at http://localhost:901/ I'm given an Alert dialog window

screen flicker
I recently moved my openSUSE 11.4 system from the
proprietary drivers to nouveau. After much grief due to the
sometimes conflicting instruction on the Internet and
applications that placed out of date shared objects
(libraries) in /usr/local/lib which is searched first by
ld.so, I have it working on a 19" wide screen LCD monitor at
1440x900.
However, there is a distinct and periodic flicker

Swat NOT Working Yet!
I am running RedHat 8.0 and Samba 2.2.6. I already provided a proper xinetd file and appointed port 901 in /etc/services. What am I still missing?

Samba 2.0.3 SCO Unix 3.2v4.2 and Shadow files
Basically I've found that the 2.0.3 version of Samba is not
supporting shadowed password files on SCO Unix 3.2v4.2. It appears
to be doing it on SCO Unix OSR5 however. This shows up both in smbd
and swat.
We found this out by playing with the newest version on a SCO Unix
OSR5 box. I recompiled the software on that box for a SCO 3.2v4.2
box but was unable to get the resulting binary to work

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4 (fwd)
You can download Ncurses for SCO OpenServer via
ftp://ftp2.caldera.com/pub/skunkware/osr5/vols/ncurses-4.2-VOLS.tar
This is a tar archive of media images suitable for installation with
the SCO Software Manager (/etc/custom).

PTY-Allocation under SCO 5
Hello,
I used the sshd under SCO 5, and always get the error that the deamon couldn't allcoate a pseudo tty. This depends on that SCO use a different method to create the tty's in the /dev directory. The pseudo tty line looks like:
/dev/ttypXXX where XXX depends on the number of pseudo tty's entered in the scoadmin Tool for the network interface. So I change the allocation routine in

Strange files
Hello,
I am using Samba 2.0.3 on my FreeBSD 2.2.7 box.
Works fine.
It is already running for a few months with a small amount of windows95
users and last week we decided to move all our userfiles from our SCO box
with visionfs over to the Samba machine.
No problems so far.
But, strange files are appearing in the directorys of the NT40 workstation
users.
Under Unix they look like Ne00: or Ne01: or

2.0.0 binaries for SCO available
Hello.
I have put a complete tar of /usr/local/samba containing working binaries etc for
at least SCO OS 5 at ftp.sdc.com.au/pub/SCO_Samba.
Binaries for swat are included and work well on my system.
The tar has been compressed with gzip but is still 3,310,694 bytes.
gzip/gunzip for SCO is in the same directory.
Thanks to the Samba team for fixing the last known hassles with the SCO build.

troubleshooting unexpected disconnects
Hi list,
I am still having troubles with rsync, as on large areas in our setup, it
keeps dying unexpectedly. See my previous post two days ago for the
initial tries. I realize it is a somewhat broad question, but how do I
troubleshoot these disconnects?
Im no great programmer, although we have a few good c programmers around,
and if needed I can ask for their help.
But for now, my thinking is,

SWAT (eroneously) reports smbd/nmbd not working
hi all,
I just installed samba 2.2.0 on a Digital SMP server and I can tell that
administering it via SWAT is the bigest step since man walking on the moon.
but...
SWAT eroneously reports smbd/nmbd not working while they are working.
And even more, the smbd/nmbd [start]/[restart] buttons have dissapeared.
Why is that ?

BUG REPORT : SWAT on Samba 2.0.7
Hi,
Nice little bug for you...
SWAT is not implementing file permissions properly when editing smb.conf. an ls -l of my smb.conf looks like this:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 804 May 5 21:45 smb.conf
Note the Owner / Group and 664 permission
If I telnet to the server, log on as an ordinary user and do a "vi /etc/smb.conf" I get the file opened "Read-Only" and

beginner question
Hello,
I recently compiled Samba 2.06 on my SCO open server box. Besides one
minor warning, not real problems there. It's running, I can use the swat
interface
but I can not get it to do the one simple thing I need it to do.
I want to have one share on my SCO box. Accessible from both windows 95
and 98. I want absolutely no security. Right now I can see the SCO box

SWAT reports daemons not running?
Samba 2.0.5a on two Sun E4000's running Solaris 2.6. SWAT on one of them
reports the daemons as running like it should but on the other the
daemons are _always_ reported as not running, even though they are, and
even though the actual connections _are_ still listed on the status
page! Any ideas?

issue and solution : samba 4.9.4 and win10 1809 : windows could not connect to user profile service aka the home drive letter semi-colon is missing
Hi,
Excuse in advance my poor english.
After installing two new servers debian buster with samba 4.9.4 , one as
AD ,the second as a fileserver, I was stuck when i tried to connect my
users.
On a Win10 client , i had the message "windows could not connect to user
profile service".
The only clue i had was in the event viewer, errors concerning
svchost.exe_ProfSvc.

Compile problem with 2.2.2 with SCO OpenServer 506 after rs506a installed
I never have had a problem compiling Samba until 2.2.2 after installing

I noticed the following message when running configure that does not
normally
