File Creation Dates Question
Hi all,
I searched the archives for a solution to this issue
but didn't find any thing.
I have an office with a mix of PCs running ME and XP
that use Samba 2.2.7 under RH Linux 7.3 as an archive
for mortgage information.
When documents are moved to the Samba share, the file
creation timestamp on the Linux box reflects the time the files
were created on the PCs. What I need is for the

Samba Over A Wan
Hi All,
I have a customer that I need to give access to one of our servers over a WAN.
Their box is running some windows server version and they use terminal services
to let their employees access their applications.
We use Samba in or local office environment where it works quite well. I need
to know the following:
1) Will Samba work over the internet?
2) Can Samba connections be encrypted or

Kernel Oplocks and FC2
Hi All,
I am running Samba version 3.0.7-2.FC2.
I've been noticing the following messages in /var/log/messages:
Sep 22 09:35:47 www kernel: lease broken - owner pid = 6024
Sep 22 09:36:32 www kernel: lease broken - owner pid = 25134
I've been told that if I place "kernel oplocks = false" in my
smb.conf file, I won't see this message any more.
However, if I do this, does

Raw Hangup messages with IAX2?
Hi All,
I am running asterisk 1.2. I have a softphone connecting from a coworkers
home through their router using IAX2 through our router at the office. Both
have port 4569 for TCP and UDP opened and forwarded to the right pc
and server.
I'm seeing Raw Hangup <person's IP address>, src=0. dst=10787
messages show up in the log like 10 every 5 seconds. We can still
make calls and

Building a view for a 3 model has_many relationship
I''m working with three models:
- Charge. has_many :budget_plans
- BudgetPlan. belongs_to :charges, :rollups
- Rollup. has_many :budget_plans
This works out perfectly. A budget plan contains the ID of a charge and
rollup and then there''s a 3rd attribute for hours. So working with data
is no problem.
My budget plan scaffold works nicely so I can select a charge, select a

Samba with winbind trouble
Hello,
I try to implement a samba server (2.2.7a) with the authentifiactions via winbind to a PDC W2000.
When I test winbind, it works:
[root@pxtest samba]# wbinfo -t
Secret is good
[root@pxtest samba]# wbinfo -a tli%password
plaintext password authentication succeeded
[root@pxtest samba]#
I enable the winbind on the /etc/nsswitch.conf:

RH7.0 compilation
Hi everyone,
Like most people with RH7.0 Linux, I had problems with their "experimental"
gcc-2.96 compiler. To circumvent the problem, I installed stock gcc-2.95.2
in the /usr/local tree, so it will be picked up first as /usr/local/bin if
before /usr/bin on my PATH. With this setup I was able to compile R-1.2.0
straight out of the box (as well as compile Linux kernels). One problem I

daemon
Hi,
I am struggling with starting smbd and nmbd as daemon under
RH7.0. I made a file just like the example in the doc:
#!/bin/sh
/usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D
/usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D
which I called "startsmb". Then I changed added the execution
permission and ran it, but it doesn't run as a daemon.
I also tried running both commands from the command line, but

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about
it on the mailing lists.
I am trying to get at the /smb file system.
My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh.
When I try executing smbsh, I see:
[reg@orion bin]$ smbsh
Username: rwclemens
Password:
ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument)
Looking at the code its not

Could not load 'USER.DLL' (RH7.2)
I find that I can't run 16-bit apps because of a problem with user.dll.
Here is an example.

Could not load 'USER.DLL' required by 'CARDFILE', error=2

A 32-bit app (such as notepad.exe) does work though, other than some minor
issues related to fonts.

oplock break on excel files using samba 2.2.4
Hi,
I search for a solution about the "oplock break" problem that occurs
sometimes on my RH7.0 / Samba 2.2.4 machine when accessing Excel files on a
Samba share. I didn't find any solution on the Net or on this list about
this.
* Is there a solution without disabling oplock ?
* Is it a RedHat or a Samba problem ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Offline Files won't sync after Samba upgrade
Dear Samba users,
Having scanned this list archive, this problem has been raised several
times over the past 12 months on this list, but mostly without any
response. Now it's happened to us too, and I raise it again in case
anybody has figured it out in the meantime.
All our employees are provided with laptops, and spend a lot of time
working offline. We make extensive use of the Offline

Committing with git
> At the dev meeting I heard Doug Gregor say something like, "what kind of dirty animals are you, you just push directly to master!?" Based on that, I think other communities may set up workflows where they push branches to places, and some automation rebases and updates master asynchronously, optionally conditioned on some (light) testing or approval.
