Samba and LDAP
After perusing the Samba 3.x docs and purchasing Terpstra's and Vernooij's excellent Samba-3 Howto, I am still unclear on LDAP authentication. Not a Windows admin so please bear with me. 1) Regarding the Samba schema, is there a tool to extract the Windows client information (sid, etc.) for populating an LDIF? Raymond

At 4 a.m. it finally worked...Samba 3, interdomain trust, ldap, winbind
I spent a solid two weeks trying to make a RH 9 with Samba 3 PDC operate the way I wanted it to in a domain that includes an NT 4.0 PDC. Early this morning, the NT user dogbreath belonging to the NT group mongrels was able to log into the NT PDC, map to the big_ugly_dogs share on the Samba machine, copy a file there, open it in OpenOffice 1.1.0, edit it, save it and then delete it. All of this was

PDC/LDAP/SAMBA3/NT4/winbind/trusted domains corrections
If you wanted to follow my steps for setting up a samba PDC in a trusted domain with NT4, please note that there are some corrections. I had a second person follow my steps and we found some problems. First, the link I originally posted as incomplete. It needs a slash at the end. The correct link is: http://www.hilinski.net/samba/ The doc file posted there was corrected today, 11/26/2003 at

BDC and Roaming Profiles
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to enable roaming profiles on the BDC. I have consulted the samba.org documentation on roaming profiles and couldn't find the solution for my setup: server1: samba pdc integrated with master ldap + replica to server2 users home shares and profiles are stored here in /home/samba/ and shared using [homes].

web interface to samba file sharing
Hello everyone! I was just wondering if there is such tool that will allow samba file sharing to be done via web interface? So instead of making a remote samba connection to a server on the internet, the person just goes to the server's web page, logs in to samba share and is allowed to upload/download files. Any help or suggestions are welcome ) -- Andrei Mikhailovsky Arhont

Samba 3.0 PDC+LDAP Help in Fedora Core 1
Hello, I am hoping someone will offer some help. I'm currently trying to setup a samba 3 PDC with LDAP authentication backend in Fedora core 1. I've read loads of documentation, including http://www.hilinski.net/samba/ldap_PDC_samba.doc http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb/smb-ldap-3-howto.html http://samba.idealx.org/samba-ldap-howto.pdf As well as tons of posts in the mailing list

My story installing Samba-LDAP PDC (it has a happy ending)
OK. I am starting to believe that Samba 3.0.x is not stable. At least, the documentation for Samba as PDC with OpenLDAP backend (which is what I have been trying to do for four days) is crap. All the documentation for 3.0.x is mixed with 2.2.x. Most documents start as instructions for 3.0.x but put a lot of information that doesn't apply to 3.0.x, but 2.2.x. People in the mailing list

Group sharing between NT and Linux domains
I need a little better information regarding the mapping of groups between an NT PDC and a SAMBA PDC, which trust each other. On the NT machine is a group called "ntgreen." On the Linux box (running RH9 with Samba 3.0), there is a group called "lxgreen". I've done a: net groupmap add ntgroup=ntgreen unixgroup=lxgreen. The mapping shows up in a net groupmap list.

Re: Linux only Network: Samba ?? or Nis and NFs??
Hi, I'm trying to build an only Linux (RedHat 8.0) network. I've tried NIS(for centralised passwords) and NFS, seems to work OK. Sometimes my clients stop responding. I may be doing something wrong. I've just been told that all of this can be done with Samba. CEntralised User naes and passwords and homes. So that any user can logon from any linux workstation be validated by a server

PC loosing domain membership frequently
Hi, I'm new to this list. I tried to google and did a _bit_ of searching in teh archive but didn't find anything related to my problem. I use samba 2.2.8a as the PDC on SuSE-linux 8.0. I administrate 7 Rooms with 160 PC, mainly w2k-sp3 and some older with NT4-sp6. In two of seven rooms some PC loose their Domain-membership. I can bring them back into Domain, but they seem to loose it after
