static wins entries -- entries change after restart of corresponding Samba server
I am trying to use static wins entries, as stated in the Official Samba Howto Collection. One Samba server (VServer) is with wins service enabled. Another (Server1) is not, but it has the wins server in its smb.conf. When I set wins.dat at VServer: "SERVER1#00" 0 192.168.6.231 192.168.1.231 66R "SERVER1#03" 0 192.168.6.231 192.168.1.231 66R "SERVER1#20" 0

Compiling a static version of rsync
I need to compile a static version of rsync. Various versions of the following command fail to produce a static version after the "make" stage. Build box is i386 solaris 8. Am I correct in thinking only the linker builds static libraries? /tmp/rsync-2.5.5# ./configure --enable-static --disable-dynamic /tmp/rsync-2.5.5# ./configure --enable-static --disable-shared /tmp/rsync-2.5.5#

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server :( As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with the same transfer

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like in Windows. So I

Win98SE to Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Thanks for the answers so far but I haven't been able to come up with an solution yet :( Some new info (see bottom of email for history): 1. I upgraded to 2.0.10 on my Mandrake 8.0, no change to the transfer problem. 2. I attempted to ftp a file from the Win 98SE PC to my Samba Server, didn't work. So I can assume that it is not specifically Samba problem. 3. I have changed the NIC cards

Samba 2.0.7 and Win98SE
I have been having an irritating problem with my home network. My network consists of 1 PC running Mandrake 8.0 as the file server with Samba 2.0.7, three PCs running Win98SE and one PC running Win XP. I have had the network running for almost two years in various OS configurations and for the most part have had smooth operations. However, my problem comes when I try and copy, move, or save any

GENERIC kern compile error 4.8-STABLE
GENERIC Kernel build failure just after stable-cvsup and buildworld. I have ensured that everything in /usr/obj was deleted before i began. Btw. /usr/obj <-- is a symlink to /Disk1/usrobj, because /usr partition was filled up. I have installed these packages from ports. db-2.7.7_1 The Berkeley DB package, revision 2 db3-3.3.11,1 The Berkeley DB package, revision 3

[PATCH] v2v: tests: avoid '..' in member names for tar
Very recent versions of tar (most probably as a consequence of CVE-2016-6321) may refuse archive members with '..', like the relative paths to upper level directories. Since these are just tests, simply copy the files in the temporary directories where tar (or zip as well) is run, so all the files are in the same directory. --- v2v/test-v2v-i-ova-formats.sh | 9 +++++----

Samba 3 dynamically enable or disable share
Hello, ? ?I wonder if it is possible to dynamically enable/disable samba 3 shares.? Here is my problem.? On a remote server I have 4 removable hard drives, large capacity. I am not using any RAID/JBOD, so each drive is mounted individually (like /mnt/DISK1, /mnt/DISK2 etc) and each drive is individually shared, something like: [STORAGE01] path = /mnt/DISK1 Guest OK = false ... [STORAGE02]

Errors related to Samba in httpd log!
Hello list First and foremost to any developers listening - thank you for Samba - it is just brilliant. Apologies - this is a long post... I am not getting complaints about logon problems from users but I have noticed in /var/log/httpd/error_log, entries like the following for a few users when their logon scripts map drives to shares. Looking back I can see that it has been

SMB3.0 with XP Home and Win98SE clients. XP no go, what should I do?
I want to have SMB server to authenticate all my users. Problem is that I have 8 Win98SE workstations and 2 XP Home laptops. I know XP Home won't do domain log-ons. What are my options (I would realy hate giving M$ more money by upgrading laptops to PRO)? How can I do user based log-ins in that kind of environment? Thanks, Apollo

Some bugs/inconsistencies.
Hi. I''m working on getting the most recent ZFS to the FreeBSD''s CVS. Because of the huge amount of changes, I decided to work on ZFS regression tests, so I''m more or less sure nothing broke in the meantime. (Yes, I know about ZFS testsuite, but unfortunately I wasn''t able to port it to FreeBSD, it was just too much work. I''m afraid it is too

bug in Libvirt(-python)?
Hi, I've noticed that the capacity of the disk in one of my VMs is completely wrongly reported by the python api. The image was transfered using scp but the transfer was aborted and now the api show a strange value: [root@virt83 ~]# du -h /var/lib/libvirt/images/test-disk1 706M /var/lib/libvirt/images/test-disk1 [root@virt83 ~]# ls -lh /var/lib/libvirt/images/test-disk1 -rw-r--r--. 1 root
