Netbios alias -max names or chars
Hello all This is my first post to Samba lists so I hope I have picked the correct list. Please let me know if I haven't. My question is what is the maximum amount of names or characters that can be put on the "netbios aliases" line in the smb.conf. We have situation where we potentially need to put up to 200 names on the line (big machines, one name per application). Cheers

Determining a basal correct count
Here's another interesting problem: if you recall I have a data frame (LCvars1) that consists of about 1500 cases (rows) of data from kids who took a test of listening comprehension. The columns are their scores (1 = correct, 0 = incorrect, . = missing) on 140 test items. The items are numbered sequentially and are ordered by increasing difficulty as you go from left to right across the

Incorrect function error with Win XP client
Hi all, First posting so bear with me if I'm asking something previously answered - can't find a easy way of searhcing the archives. We've been using samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 for some time but only with NT & 2000 clients. About to roll out XP but we're getting errors attempting to access files and dirs on a successfully mapped share, i.e.. We can map a drive successfully

Conditional looping over a set of variables in R
Here's the problem I'm trying to solve in R: I have a data frame that consists of about 1500 cases (rows) of data from kids who took a test of listening comprehension. The columns are their scores (1 = correct, 0 = incorrect, . = missing) on 140 test items. The items are numbered sequentially and are ordered by increasing difficulty as you go from left to right across the columns. I want

optim or nlminb for minimization, which to believe?
I have constructed the function mml2 (below) based on the likelihood function described in the minimal latex I have pasted below for anyone who wants to look at it. This function finds parameter estimates for a basic Rasch (IRT) model. Using the function without the gradient, using either nlminb or optim returns the correct parameter estimates and, in the case of optim, the correct standard

Getting random threading errors in jruby (1.7.3) & rails 2.3.17 application
I am running jruby (1.7.3) & rails 2.3.17 application whose apis are exposed to outside app. When I add "config.threadsafe!" in my development.rb/production.rb & hit lot many api requests in a second then I am getting following errors randomly for some of the api requests: 1. make check fails due to NA / NaN mismatch
Thank you for the introduction to these recent changes, Martin. I think this was the second time I ran "make check" on that platform (Raspberry Pi 32-bit), and the first time (some months ago) it worked fine. So, that makes it kind of "suddenly", although I must say that my use of "make check" is very irregular. I compared code before and after the split you are

Use of MathJax (or something similar) in .Rd files
Thanks Gabor and Duncan! It works. For those interested, I added this to the beginning of the \details{} section: \if{html}{\out{ <script id="MathJax-script" async src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/mathjax at 3/es5/tex-mml-chtml.js"> </script> }} And then I can use: \if{html}{\out{\(B_{x(a,b)} = \int_0^x t^{a-1} (1-t)^{b-1} dt\)}} or

kerneld and module security
Here''s a neat trick for a machine running kerneld: not_root@machine$ /sbin/ifconfig isofs loads ''/lib/modules/(kernel version here)/fs/isofs.o''. /sbin/ifconfig when run as non-root queries a network interface for its configuration. However, if the interface is unknown it also tries to load the module that implements that interface using the name of the interface as

Use of MathJax (or something similar) in .Rd files
Hi All, After some tinkering, and with support from Duncan, I put together a package that allows for easy inclusion of MathJax equations in Rd files. The package has been submitted to CRAN, but those who want to try this out already can get it here: https://github.com/wviechtb/mathjaxr or in other words: install.packages("remotes")
