Samba and vland
Hi all, I'm running samba 2.2 as a domain master on redhat7.3 os. Just recently we started subneting the network. I have entries for the domain in the dns servers. But for some reason I can't autenticate to the domain. I have noticed when I try to authenticate that the requests are not reaching the server. Every time i try to logon I check the samba log files but i see no activities.

Windows access to samba share
I am new to the list so my problem is likely redundant. I am using Samba on a remote Linux system to offer Windows clients access to data being collected by a real-time system. The real-time data collection systems are built on the RH 8 Linux distribution. I also have one that was built using the RH Fedora Core 1 distribution. The data collection software runs as root (yes I do know its not the

Samba 3 PDC with LDAP - Error when changinguserpasswordfrom windows
1. yes, I tried these lines and in the logs, there was a failure in response 3 "match no". When I manually ran smbldaa-passwd.pl in xterm, I saw that there's never a "successfully" meesage when the password is changed with success, I looked the code (luckily it's Perl ;o)), and I didn't see any "print "succes"" or "print "password

Authenticating to BDC with LDAP backend
Hello, I'm still trying to get this straightened out. I have the following system: System description RedHat 8.0 LDAP 2.1.23 Samba 3.0 I have basically 2 BDC that I want users to have home directories on. These also run LDAP backend as slave servers. Do all machines using the domain need to have machine accounts on the PDC or do some that use the BDC for home directories need to have

winbindd
hi all, as i heard, i need winbind to connect linux-clients on samba. i installed this - without pam (in the hope this would work...) but this constellation seems to be needed, as i still cannot connect, even if winbind logs my domain as accepted. Do i really have to do the pam-configuration on the samba-server-side too?? i just thought, it was enough to authentificate against smbpasswd. is

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

Winbind pdc bdc problem
Do I need to use winbind between pdc and bdc if I'm using LDAP backend? I have a PDC setup with LDAP master on backend and a BDC with slave LDAP in another building.I'm just having a problem with getting users to authenticate and use the BDC for home directories and exactly how to have W2k clients join the domain.. The BDC is in another building (connected by a slow connection) so it needs

Roaming Profiles: Advantages and disadvantages?
Hello everyone. I wanted to get some feedback and opinions from people regarding the use of Roaming profiles. originally, I was planning on using roaming profiles. However, I am starting to wonder if this is such a good idea. The reason is that, if I implement roaming profiles, there is a good chance that there will be network congestion as well as a lot of stress on the server. (50 users so

Roaming profiles and USRMGR.EXE
I'm using Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06.1 as PDC for our Windows workstations. The passdb backend is tdbsam. I want to employ roaming profiles and due to the fact that we have a mixed Windows environment (Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro) I have the following entry in my smb.conf: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a Basically, this works fine. If a user is working on a W2k workstation, his

profiles reverting from local to roaming
Hello, I have a shiny new RHES4 box running Samba 3.0.10-1.4E (as included in the Red Hat distribution) which is set up as a domain controller, using openLDAP and the IdealX scripts. User PCs are Windows 2000 and XP. We would like to avoid roaming profiles altogether, so we set "logon path =" and "logon home =" (with no argument to the right of the equals sign) in smb.conf.

Roaming Profiles
I'm mulling over the idea of replacing my Win 2k MS AD using Samba. But I'd like to retain roaming profile capability for all my users. Based on your experience is it stable enough to implement for a production environment? I have only 30 using Win 2k Pro and some XP. What are the pit falls I need to look out for? Thank you! Joe
