Failure joining to Samba 3.4.5 Domain
Hello, I am attempting to join a Windows 7 computer to a Samba 3.4.5 I setup. When I attempt to join the domain the Windows 7 computer says: "A device attached to this system is not functioning." There are no obvious errors in the system logs on the Windows 7 machine or the samba PDC. I can browse/map a drive to the PDC and access the files. Does anyone know what is going on? *

Re: Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
After, oh, six months of attempts here and there to read everyone's experiences with Samba/LDAP and inability for a windows 2000/XP machine to join the domain, I finally discovered what was not working properly. In my smb.conf I put: add machine script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u" As instructed by many How-to's and Idealx. However, I thought to myself, %m

Scaleable LDAP Backends for Samba; Domain Controllers group access
OK, just went through the research on how to set up scalable LDAP backends. By scaleable I mean without having Samba use the root dn to access ldap. This way, if you are going through the logs, you will be able to tell which domain controller is doing what. As far as I know, it *HAS* to be done this way because the posixGroup schema is way out of date (it wont take a dn as a member). This
