Need a bit of 'archeocomputing' help on CentOS 7.
I have an application with is binary-only, does its job well, and is only available for either libc5 (!) or early early glibc2.0 (!!). It has been running on a Red Hat Linux 5.2 (NOT RHEL; RHL) server for a really long time, and it honestly does its job and it's not easily replaced by an open-source solution at the moment. So, I need to do one of the following things: 1.) Run Red Hat

RHL init.d/sshd ipv6 hack
Hello all, I'm using the attached patch. With it, if you add OPTIONS="-6" in /etc/sysconfig/sshd (this kind of sysconfig/<name> is a pretty normal RHL practice), then you can enable ipv4 and ipv6 on RHL without problems and without having to modify the init.d/sshd script. This or something like should IMO be added. Removing 'noreplace' from sshd_config

patch: contrib/redhat/openssh.spec updates for privsep
Hello! Now that PrivSep stuff works for PAM too, I took the time to update contrib/redhat/openssh.spec to create the sshd user and set up the /var/empty dir when installing the packages. These have been done the Red Hat style, the uid/gif 74 is currently free in RHL. The only minor issues I could think of were: - I'm not sure if /var/empty should be owned by openssh-server package, but

Cable Modem
I read many postings in this listserv about cable modem under RHL 7.3 in Sept 2002, I followed the recommendations, but I still can't get it to work. I have 3 computers connected to an Ethernet hub/router in my house, and the uplink from the hub/router goes to a Scientific-Atlanta Webstar cable modem. The 2 Windows computers are successfully using the cable modem to connect to the

Does Redhat have a list of changed packages in 5.1?
The information at: http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.1 is great. Does RH have something that shows what has changed with them from 5.0 to 5.1? So far I have only found: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-5.1-Manual/manual/doc000.html Like what release of Firefox, etc.

How should I create a repo on Centos 2.1?
I tracked down a createrepo rpm "for RHL 7.x, AS 2.1" etc (hosted by Dag), but it's uninstallable. Eventually I managed to create an rpm from the source (actually, that's fairly easy when onw knows to say "python2"), but python-urlgrabber has completely defeated me. According to Dag, the problem is that "upstream" doesn't see the need to support

How can I tell which users are currently connected?
I am running RHL 7.2 with Samba 2.2.3a using a W2K DC for authentication via winbind. From the linux box, how can I find out which users are currently connected to my box via Samba? This would help a lot when I need to reboot the server or restart the samba service because of changes that need to immediately go into effect. Thanks Kevin Bramblett

LSi Logic SCSI controller driver
Hello, I have found a lot of discussions concerning the LSI Logic scsi driver. E.g.: https://lkml.org/lkml/2010/4/26/335 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16547 http://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-list/2007-April/msg02661.html VMware ESXI was updated on 28. April 2011. Is this bug fixed in CentOS 6? RHEL 6 beta: the bug was included so far as I have read. -- Viele Gr??e Helmut

Multiple Groups, Different Permissions problem
Hello everyone, I need to setup some directories (in RHL 7.2 running Samba 2.2.3a w/ W2K PDC) to allow multiple groups, each of which has different permissions. If this can be done on the Linux side, this would be preferred, but if it has to be done in Samba, any help in understanding how to make this happen is appreciated. I know Windows NT/W2K allows multiple groups and I would think Linux

2.5.1p1 logout hangs after RHL crond start
The RHL 6.2 command "/etc/rc.d/init.d/crond start" prevents clean logout from compiled version of OpenSSH-2.5.1p1 on all hosts. The command "/etc/rc.d/init.d/crond stop" is OK. This occurs for interactive or command line requests. ssh remotehost /etc/rc.d/init.d/crond stop --- works every time ssh remotehost /etc/rc.d/init.d/crond start --- hangs every time Control-C will

Still on 2.2.2 becuase of printer driver problems with 2.2.7a
Greetings and Happy New Year, My samba print server is still running 2.2.2 and I've not been able to upgrade it past that point. I have not been able to get the printer drivers to behave properly in ANY later version. Currently I am testing Samba 2.2.7 running under Solaris 9. I have been using HP Laserjet 4000 and 8150 postscript drivers in my testing. I am seeing two distinct

NIS binding probs w/Firewall and SELinux
I have RHEL5 Server originally configured and installed by me with Firewall enabled, but passing through NFS, Samba, and SSH. I then disabled SELinux. As you all likely recall, I had configured a test environment to get samba and nfs/nis up and running. I got it going, and recently brought it to a production server. After modifying the files on the production server and rebooting, I'm

What I would like to do: can it be done?
I have a RHL box running Samba 1.19.8p10 (or whatever the latest one is). I would like to share the /home/httpd directory read-only to everyone on the network and read/write to a few specific people. I cannot get the passwords for these people, and I want this to be as transparent as possible (read: as "invisible" as possible). I don't want to have to add every user to the group, but

Installing R on RedHat EL 5

I downloaded the rpm files for el4/x86_64 from the CRAN repository and tried to run rpm but it did not go through complaining about dependencies. Do all the listed rpm files need to be installed? What is the order in which these need to be installed? I appreciate any help with this or any suggestions for alternate ways

Limiting User Space on Samba Share
Hi, Can someone tell me if Samba can limit users to certain amounts of space on specified shares? If so, where would I go to find out how to implement it? I have the following setup: RHL 7.2, Samba 2.2.3a using a Windows 2000 PDC with Winbind. I want to be able to set a limit for each user on certain folders/shares on the Linux box that they are accessing from Windows systems. Thanks, Kevin
