Question regarding SWAT
Hi everyone,
In the last few days I've spended hours and hours on the web surching for a solution to my problems. Eventhough it looked like there where several other people having the same problem I couldn't find a way to solve it.
Therefore I'm hoping that one of you could help me with the following problem.
I've installed Samba 3.0.14a on RedHat 9.0. Samba is working perfectly.

Manova question.
Hi list,
I'm attempting to re-create a Repeated Measures Compositional Analysis
as
described in the work by Aebischer et. al. (Ecology. 1993. 74(5):
1313-1325).
In this paper they describe transitions of data into a log ratio
difference matrix, from which they obtain two matrices using a monova
routine.
I am able to produce the second of the two matrices, but I'm having
trouble

No need if you have already installed the SWAT RPM.

RedHat 9 Samba and SWAT
Hi all,
I've googled and discovered that others have had this problem, but no
one has given sufficient details about how they solved it, so I'm still
stuck.
As preface, I'm a high school teacher, and although I teach
programming, my sysadmin experience is minimal, so please be explicit
in your replies.
I've been following the instructions in the O'Reilly Samba book for

swat on red hat 7.2
Hi,
I'm having a minor issue with swat on red hat 7.2. It won't let me make
any changes to the samba server (adding shares, printers, and global
definitions). The buttons to access these simply don't exist. I can view
status, but I can't make any changes (not even restart the daemons).
This works fine on my Debian system. The only real difference that I can
think of is inetd

swat: connection refused
Hello :)
I have a problem with swat on a ubuntu machine (I installed swat per
apt-get)
When swat is running it doesn't print out anything (I guess that should be
ok though) but after a while it just prints "Alarm Clock" and quits. When I
try to connect to localhost:901 (before it says alarm clock though) firefox
prints out "the connection was refused when attempting to contact

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members,
I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a
Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original
samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The
installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and
/etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed

RE: Samba newbie question... (SWAT)
So John, are you the "SWAT guru" for Samba?
I like the idea of having an expert for each area of Samba.
Just a thought - if you are looking for further feedback regarding SWAT,
you may want to post a message to the Samba forum on tek-tips website.
(goto www.tek-tips.com and search for forum called "Andrew Tridgell :
Samba")

SWAT authentication question...
Hi all,
The documentation for SWAT indicates that logging in as the "root"
user will allow the user to update & change Samba parameters. The question
I have is, does SWAT define "root" on a Solaris 8 system as "a user with
user id 0", or "a user with the user name root"? The reason I'm asking is,
my system administrators are (rightfully)

swat
Hi Guys,
I have downloaded and installed 3.02a. All is working fine. Only issue I
have is that swat will not load. I have put a debug on it, but can't find
any cause for it failing to start.
Is anyone having the same issues with this.
System is running RedHat 9.0
Thanks,
Pete

RE: Samba newbie question... (SWAT)
Thanks for the performance information John, I wasn't aware that optimising the
conf could make such a difference.
I guess my way of thinking - where I want to look at the original smb.conf file
and have it nicely readable is a bit impractical,
and maybe I will soon change that way of thinking, but I think it will help your
work if you are aware of other peoples thought processes,

Swat access question
Hi All,
I'm a new user to Samba and I'm just having trouble with one or two
things. I've been able to sort most of them out myself but I was wondering
how can you get full access to Swat. Obviously the root user gets all the
access requiremnts but my own unix user only gets the Samba Documentation
screen within Swat. I have tried adding my user id into admin users but

odd swat issues, odd printer issue, odd crashes..
Before I start, can you CC me if you respond as im not subscribed. thanks!
(this is samba 3.0.4 on suse enterprise linux, kernel 2.6.5)
first, the swat issue.
I had a machine that had 2 network interface cards in it.
I have since removed one card, mainly because it caused weird performace
issues unrelated to samba.
the interface addresses were 192.168.0.200 and 192.168.0.201
another machine now

SWAT won't start
Hi,
I'm setting up Samba on a RH ES linux machine. I have basic functionality
working and can access a share from a Windows pc. I set up smb.conf
manually. I'd like to use SWAT but when I try to run it I get the error:
-- The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 --
I set up the xinetd configuration file exactly as I've seen online. Webmin
works fine.
