XP join and logon
Hi
My plan is joining XP Pro client to authenticate via Samba 3.0 domain or
workgroup.
The problem is the XP client at first login interface didnt show logon
location like to "This Computer" and "AJK-ITS" workgroup, so it cannot
authenticate to Samba Server.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have configured those machines like these:
on XP Pro client I've set:

Is binary firmware still necessary for GTX660 card (NVE0 family) in order to use DRM and/or VDPAU video acceleration?
Hello,
I run the Gentoo Linux distribution and use a self-compiled Linux 3.10.17
kernel. According to
[1] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/InstallDRM/
[2] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/
I need the original firmware from the binary driver in order to sucessully
use DRM and to use VDPAU video acceleration. I used the python script from
[2] and I had a look at the ebuild

Hi,
just a note for everybody who stumble across this thread in the future in
order to bring this thread to a proper end.
If I run the kernel with
nouveau.debug="PVP=debug,PBSP=debug,PPPP=debug"
I see messages about the firmware files gettings loaded. If the firmware files are
missing, I get some warnings/errors. So far everything works as expected.
But if I invoke

Hi Martin,
if you refer to my kernel version. 3.10.17 is the latest, stable version in
the official gentoo repository for the amd64 architeture. See here
[4] https://packages.gentoo.org/package/sys-kernel/gentoo-sources?full_cat
As long as I do not miss any features, I stay with the stable version.
Hence, if I understand you correctly, there are kernel version (newer than

How to join a linux machine to a Active Directory Domain using Samba.
Hi,
having read through tons of different how-to's about how to do this specific
task has made me quite sick. Do someone know a good guide for this or can
she/he make a quick how-to? I am atm using samba 3.0 alpha 20 but I gladly
change to 2.xx if that would do the trick. Anyone?
regards,
Jacob Malmberg

bind failure: can't contact ldap server
Hi list,
I have installed samba 2.2.8 on my linux rh 9. with Openldap rmps. I am
trying to setup a PDC server using Samba with ldap as the backend. The samba
server can not connect to the ldap server. I am getting the following error
when I run any smb commands:
LDAPS option set...!

A way to shut down workstation
In a mail to this list a command for shutting down a PC is mentioned,
but without further explanation. It said something like this:
net rpc shutdown -S <machine name>
I do not get it: who shuts down who?
For example, I have a samba acting as a PDC server for network with
windows 2K workstaions. Users forget to shut down the ws's and I would
like to do that automatically (from cron)

smbpasswd -w account
Hi,
I've setup Samba NT based networks with OpenLDAP database.
But to make sambas operations works fetching data to LDAP, it should have
an account on LDAP that able to write some objects, such as passwords
(when changing passwd) or object creation (when registering or joining to
directory) .The scope of this account is strong enough to any containers
on the directory, such as

instead of nvi - test program
[Sorry, it seems that I overlooked this message -- alex]
Hi,
Since nvi is hard to come by, here is a little program to mimic the behavior
of nvi on any file you care to try...
usage: locklogin file_to_lock
It first tries POSIX locking and then does BSD flavor. It seems that it is
BSD after all that is causing the trouble...
Best wishes

newbie question about beta distribution
hi everyone,
I'm still a newbie in statistics,
I have a question about beta distribution, that is,
On the ref/tutorials I've found on the net, why beta distribution always
have value p(x) more than 1?
As I know, any probability density function always have value not more
than 1?
is there any one who can explain to me, I'm not statistics people, but I
need to code that needing some
