ext3 patch does not want to gunzip
Hi, I seem to have a problem with compiling the kernel 2.4.13 on redhat 7.2? It would compile fine but have errors about ext3 support on reboot. I download ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413.gz to my linux machine to enable it be useful with ext3 support but when I try to gunzip it with the instructions gunzip < ~/ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413.gz | patch -p1 i get gunzip: stdin: not in gzip format I get an

I downloaded the ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413.gz file. When I issue the gunzip < ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413.gz | patch -p1 command, I get an error message that states the file is not in gunzip format. I would appreciate any recommendations on this problem. Gerald

Ext3 2.4.13 Patch Line-wrap Problems
I have gotten the 2.4.13 kernel and the 2.4.13 ext3 patch. Unfortunately, it appears that some lines are wrapped, meaning that the long lines are actually on two lines, which throws the entire patching process off. Right now, my only recourse is to go through and manually fix the problem, which will take awhile, since there are more than 17000 lines of code! Is the problem on my end, or on the

Oops on 2.4.13 w/ ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413
Hello, We have about 20 - 30 embedded machines running Linux 2.4.13, which the ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413 patch applied. These are PowerPC 7410 based systems. I am getting reports of Oops happening either during removes (rm's), or coppies (cp's). Most reports state that issuing the same command once the system boots back up, does not cause it to crash. I guess its something else leading up

ext3 Patch doesn't work with 2.4.13
Hi, I just wanted to compile my kernel 2.4.13 with the ext3-2.4.13-pre6 patch, but it doesn't work. It seems, that the patching failes by replacing some things in a textfile. Does anyone of you know, if there is a upcoming solution for this? Kind regards Jan Albrecht -- Jan Albrecht Phone: +49-5241-80-88404 System Consultant UNIX/NT Fax:

Ext3 compile problem on 2.4.13
I am having some trouble compiling ext3 for the 2.4.13 kernel. initramfs gunzip problems.
I've been having an exchange of e-mails with Bryan O'Sullivan regarding this problem. I thought it time to bring it to the list. I've run into a problem where my initramfs archives get this during bootup: checking if image is initramfs...it isn't (ungzip failed); looks like an initrd The same .cpio archive works if I don't gzip it. I stuck a bunch of debug statements into

Ext3 and external journals...
Hi, I am trying out ext3 with an external journal (on a battery backed RAM card). I use data=journal, and sync nfs writes go nice and fast :-) But.. I had to power cycle it (buggy VM.. grumble :-) and now I cannot get my filesystem back. It is only a test filesystem so I don't need the data. But I want this to work before I put real data on it. If I "fsck /dev/md1", it

ext3-0.9.15 against linux-2.4.14
Download details and documentation are at http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ Changes since ext3-0.9.13 (which was against linux-2.4.13): - Fixed a null-pointer dereference oops which could hit on SMP machines. This fix was applied to 2.4.12-ac6, but the oops has never been reported against -ac kernels. - Large amounts of developer debug code has been removed. This will now be

ext3 patch files
Hi, i'd like to upgrade my kernel to 2.4.14. I've obtained the corresponding kernel patch from http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/ext3/ however when I run gunzip < ~/ext3-2.4-0.9.15-2414.gz | patch -p1 I am told that this file is not in gzip format. This is based on the file and instructions on ext3 for 2.4 site. Am I missing something? cheers Simon

gunzipping the patch...
Hi, I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but when I type in the line: gunzip < ~/ext3-***extraStuffHere***.gz | patch -p1 as in the installation guide, it tells me that the patch is not a proper gzip file. What do I do??? Also, when it says "make menuconfig", does the menuconfig file appear once the patch is ungzipped, or should it be there already? I'm kinda worried

hotuser and hotkernel
G''Day Folks, While I have a few minutes online (which is rare at the moment - travel), let me post about a couple of new scripts. I''ve just uploaded them to http://www.brendangregg.com/dtrace.html. They are to profile user-level functions and libaries; and kernel-level functions and modules. They sample, rather than trace (which can be both good and bad). Here is hotuser

ext3 kernel 2.4.13
Hello everyone, I'm new to the list and I hope I'm not repeating something that was already asked for. I had been using the stock kernel that came with Mandrake 8.1 which is kernel 2.4.8-26mdk (not sure what things are applied to a stock 2.4.8) I have my root partition /dev/hda1 on ext3 Mandrake took care of all this, by putting the ext3 module in initrd. I just dl'ed 2.4.13

Hello, I converted my / partition to ext3 from ext2 today, and I'm using kernel 2.4.13+ext3 patch I used tune2fs -j and set the filesystem to auto in fstab, and compiled ext2 as well as ext3 in the kernel Upon rebooting, I tried df -hT to see if it had worked, and to my surprise it didn't list my root partition dmesg say it's fine (and btw everything works fine) kjournald

Hi everybody, actually I wanted to search the list archive, before asking, but unfortunately I don't "get" it: $ gunzip 2018-May.txt.gz gunzip: 2018-May.txt.gz: not in gzip format It seems, that in every archive-file there is always one message in plaintext and then a big binary block. Any hint? Thanks a lot, -- kind regards, thg
