preexec close + Win2K
I have Samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 8 acting as a PDC. I have written a script that checks to see if a user is already logged in on the PDC and if so, sends the user a message (via the SMB message stuff) telling them they need to log off. I run this script using "preexec close" under the netlogon share. So, the user authenticates against the PDC, but then gets a desktop that is mostly

permission issues
Here is the situation. I have setup a samba server to authenticate against Active Directory. I have created a group under my Linux server and created all the accounts that need to access the share and placed them in the Linux group on the samba server. I gave the group full rights to the samba share, but when a user from the group adds to the samba share a file or directory he or she now owns

Why does oplocks = False not seem to stop file cacheing?
Greetings All, I have tried everything I can think of and can not seem to stop the PC from cacheing a local copy of a file retrieved over a samba share. I have tried oplocks = false and also setting veto oplocks = /*.txt/ Whatever I try the PC still shows me the old version of a file after I modify it on the unix side. If anyone can see anything wrong with my smb.conf file please let me know.

Here's a working samba.conf
Since everyone seems to only post problems to this list, I thought that I would try and post a number of solutions at once. This is my working samba configuration file (minus key indentyfying information). It may not be perfect, but it is as close as I have been able to get it to perfect, and that is after working with samba for a few years. This configuration has my server setup as a PDC (with

WinXP client always connects as Gaia\Guest
All attempts to connect to our Samba server, share "\data" from any Windows client fails. I'm trying to get samba to prompt the windows user with a login box, have them enter the samba username/password, then head onto the share. If I use in the address field the following: \\gaia\data /user:woellki a dialog box appears, with the username field greyed out "Gaia\Guest"

I have not met anyone so far with that much performance difference, though some reported 1:2 speed ratio. Attached is our config file for your information. I've searched through this mail lists' archives. I couldn't find a solution, though I've seen people reporting similar

Hi, Thought I posted this already two weeks ago. Haven't seen any reactions yet, so I post it again We got the following problem here: Every now and then, users are unable to save Word or Excel documents on our Samba server. We already tried a couple of things: disabling oplocks, increasing oplock break wait time, putting the documents on a new share, ... but to no success so far. The

PDC and logon script - try 2
Hi everyone, I have a question about the logon script command. I've read and read and read the man page for smb.conf. In essence, I've duplicated the settings on the PDC how-to document to create a PDC with a logon script. However, when I log in, the scrips doesn't run. The only thing I don't have enabled, like the how-to, is roaming profiles. I'll include my smb.conf for
