Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future, there will be Linux clients. I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

[Fwd: Re: Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile]
Doesn't really resolve the issue, but in my case the problem went away when using physical machines rather than virtual machines. The environments are identical - RH ES 3.0 with Windows XP sp1a client (no hotfixes or GPO settings applied). Thanks for everyone's help. Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi, I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller. If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret. There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these methods. I would like to include in the new book

policies do not get applied with w2k sp2
we are using samba 2.2.3a-6 for debian (woody) and found that our w2k machines do not apply the ntconfig.pol when sp2 is installed. (the sp1 machines do) Is there a way around this? -- Torsten

Implementation of W2K Group Policies from a Linux Ser ver
Just a quick congrats to John for repling to this email constructivly. Too often do people fire out the ole RTFM speel. More people within the OpenSource community could do with taking a leaf out of his book. On topic for a second, do not discount being able to lower the spec of the below machine due to careful implementation and installation. You may wish to take a look at the kernel

Weird Auth issue
OK, running Samba 3.0.0 on RH9 in a W2K AD environment. MIT Kerberos 1.2.7. Joined the domain with no problem, wbinfo and getent respond perfectly. I can get Kerberos tickets from the W2K domain and browse domain resources from the RH9 box, both with krb tickets and by supplying a password, although using the -k option does not display the "network neighborhood" browse list. However,

Dealing with Non-Standard Hours
A data set I obtained has the hours running from 01 through 24 rather than the conventional 00 through 23. My favorite, strptime, balks at hour 24. I thought it would be easy to correct but it must be too late on Friday for my brain and caffeine isn't helping. GXP-2000 Volume Issue
Is anyone else having an issue with GXP-2000s and transmit gain? All my other phones are fine on my TDM400P with txgain set at 0, but the GXP-2000 caps at about a third of the scale in ztmonitor. I'm getting people complaining they can't hear me on my GXP-2000s, whereas my Snom 320 and Polycom 301 are great, and my Budgetones are overmodulating. Is there any conceivable fix on the

ToDo List Notation
I just joined this mail-list, so I apologize if this has been discussed before, but: Has anyone suggested adding a "todo list notation" to Markdown? Specifically, I'd like to see an open paren, brace or bracket, at the start of a line, followed by a space, a "/", or a "X", followed by a matching closing paren, brace, or bracket, followed by a space and more text

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that. so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files) I'm thinking of having the students run off of a

Aggregating on Water Year Rather Than Calendar Year
The US water year extends from 01 October yyyy-1 through 30 September yyyy and is referenced by the year starting on the included 01 January yyyy. I'd like to be able to find the annual means for the water year. To do so I've taken the input date-time, which is in the usual format "1991-10-07 10:35:00" changed it by: w$d<-as.POSIXct(w$date.time) Now I can add an

Implementation of W2K Group Policies from a Linux Server
I am an evil M$ MCSE :), who of late is planning on opening his own business... Due to the large cost involved with setting up Win2K server, both Hardware and OS, we are considering a Linux server setup. We have SOME experience with Linux, but were after information specifically on the possible implementation of Win2K Group Policies (as well as 'Domain' Authentication_ for the client

SAMBA4 AD - Logon Scripts
Hi all Anyone having problems running logon scripts in 4.2.2? I've created a few test scripts (.bat, .vbs, etc) and placed them in the netlogon folder and then assigned some user accounts either the .bat or .vbs files using RSAT tools. Yet at login none of my client workstations (Windows XP, 7 or 8) execute their login scripts, none get mapped drives, etc. Browsing to the netlogon

Missing Policies folder after failure; how to recreate
Dear Samba List! Long story short and please just don't ask; if it were up to me this would have not happened: I need to recreate the default GPO-s (as in the \SysVol\domain.of\Policies\ folder and subfolders) of my domain. Trying to delete the old GPO-s I run into errors, both in the windows mmc and on the dc with runing samba-tools as root. ERROR(ldb): uncaught exception - LDAP error 50

Disabling "quick check"
Ok, thank you for this extra info. I have experienced exactly what you described. The rsync dry run is _still_ running after being started at 1:30am PST :) But it is finding the right files to update. Most of the entries are: >fc........ Which is what I want. So, just because I see: >f at the beginning... That doesn't necessarily mean that the file is going to get updated at the
