some cannot join domain
Hi,
I have some machines (winXP and win2k) that cannot join my domain. Others
I have joined to the domain. I am using the smbldap-tools 0.8.9 with an
add machine script as follows:
add machine script = /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u"
The LDAP entity gets created with objectClasses top, inetOrgPerson, and
posixAccount. My impression is that samba then comes

confusion about using samba as NT4 PDC with ldapsam backend
Hello,
I want to use samba v3.3.x to implement an NT4/Win2k style domain:
a samba PDC and a samba BDC, using ldapsam for the 'passdb backend'. I plan
to use RedHat Directory Server v8.2 as the ldap server.
I'm trying to sort out how user/group management and nss will work.
I'm confused about how/when the samba-supplied ldap schema is used (I mean
the schema that's in the

QuarkXPress files
We have experianced a strang behavior with QuarkXPress files.
These files can be opened/modified/saved by user a, user b can
open/modify the file but saving is not possible.
With all other applications open/modify/save files is possible.
We use: SuSE8.1, Samba 2.2.5, reiserfs.
Directories/files are set 2770

Null deference panic in CentOS-6.5
I googled this issue and found so many people have encountered, but most
of them just said "the newer kernel doesn't have this problem, so
upgrade kernel". We can't upgrade kernel easily, so we need to *really*
solve this problem.

Solution to smbldap-tools not adding sambaSAMAccount
Well I finally managed to get my machines added to my ldap/samba domain.
The problem was that I had defined an ou each for Computers and Users. ie
dc=base,dc=org
|
------ ou = Users
|
------ ou = Computers
Now the problem was that the nss_ldap library was searching in Users only,
and apparently the samba server needs to be able to resolve the Computers
tree aswell to add the

Fine, it seems that upgrade kernel is the only effective solution.

sambaSamAccount and posixAccount cohabitation
Hi all,
I'm new on this list and I'm french, so my english could be worst !;)
My question is about sambaSamAccount and posixAccount objectClasses.
I want the user "test" be mapped to user root (uid=0, gid=0) when logged
into pam over ldap mechanism (such as ssh)
And I want the same user "test" be mapped to user test (uid=1003,
gid=513) when logged to Samba server.

Réf. : Net groupmap fails
Stephanie,
Thank you for your help. I tryed what you suggest but no luck.. I get
this:
root@lnxsrvr2:~# /usr/local/samba/bin/net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain
Admins" unixgroup="Domain Admins" rid=512
Can't lookup UNIX group Domain Admins
Is there something with initial compiling samba 3.0.0 that would disable
this? All the documentation that I've seen makes it look so

OT: 1gigabt nics
Begging indulgence of the list - asking here because due
to the higher likelyhood of getting an answer...
I have an application that often loses connection from one machine to
another when one (or more) of the machines has particular brands of
1gig nics, but which runs rock solid when on 10meg nics and some 1
gig nics.
The application senses (falsely) that the connection has been shut

Slow umounts on SLES10 patchlevel 3 ocfs2
Hi,
we are using a SLES10 Patchlevel 3 with 12 Nodes hosting tomcat application servers.
The cluster was running some time (about 200 days) without problems.
Recently we needed to shutdown the cluster for maintenance and experianced very long times for the umount of the filesystem. It took something like 45 minutes each node and filesystem (12 x 45 minutes shutdown time).
As a result the planned

ROC optimal threshold
hello,
I am using the ROC package to evaluate predictive models
I have successfully plot the ROC curve, however
?is there anyway to obtain the value of operating point=optimal threshold
value (i.e. the nearest point of the curve to the top-left corner of the
axes)?

Can't login to Samba PDC
We're trying to migrate from a windows NT domain to a Samba domain. I've
installed Samba 3.0.2a with an LDAP backend. The server seems to be running
fine as I can browse the shares from a non-domain Win2k workstation after a
successful password check. The workstations join the domain just fine but
after I join them to the domain I can't log in to them. I've checked my

LDAP arrangement for machines
Dear Folks,
Now trying to get Samba 3.0.0 RC1 up and running only with LDAP, as PDC. I am
using openldap 2.1.22-5 from rawhide on RH9. pbedit was able to migrate the
user accounts to the existing posixAcounts in LDAP (nice!) but not the machine
accounts, which had no pre-existing entries beyond the top-level entry
ou=Devices.
Since the sambaSamAccount is auxiliary, it needs a structural

Problems making use of 2K PDC
I'm having problems with samba using the 2K PDC.
I've gotten it to successfully join the 2K PDC via smbpasswd. Winbindd
is running and I can ping it. I've tried googling, but was unsuccessful
at finding something useful. The Windows 2K event viewer shows:

I have 2 samba AD DC's running 4.7.0 and 2 member servers running 4.6.2.
Everything seems to be working OK except that I see the following errors
over and over again in the winbind log on one of the member servers:

Sharing Accounts between Servers and SIDs
I maintain a heterogenous network with a shared LDAP account database.
The user accounts have globally unique user names, UIDs and RIDs.
Some, but not all accounts are valid on all machines, but there is no
need for samba to care about this, because there simply won't be a
unix account for invalid users. There are no MS servers involved, and
because every samba server has the same user account
