creating new shares and restarting SMB
I have been creating new samba shares in the smb.conf file, but I have to
restart smb everytime in order to see these new shares. Is there a way to
activate new shares without restarting or at least for samba to show the
new shares without kicking people off their current sessions?

wall and mesg and Xwindow
I read in another post this morning something that reminded me of a
question that has left my pulling my eyebrows out. How are broadcast
messages enabled in X?
I have found that
# mesg y
at a console will enable wall to post to that console. And, by placing
"mesg y" in /etc/rc.d/rc.local, messages will be enabled on all
consoles. But they're not enabled in KDE, neither in a

Solaris/NUT 'wall' behaviour
I have compiled and installed NUT-2.2.1 on Solaris 10 on my Sunblade
2000 and it seems to work very well, except that the behaviour of
'wall', which upsmon uses to report significant events, may differ on
Solaris from other systems. On Sol10, wall writes the message *only* on
the console, unless the "-a" switch is used. On a standard JDS (GNOME)
system, there isn't normally a

PXEboot works but running into a wall at "login"
This is slightly off topic since I am all the way upto
the login prompt, but I appeal to you all because you
probably have experience in this:
I am passing a diskless workstation a compressed root
filesystem that is copied from a server (chopped
down). I am only intereted in text consoles being
available on the client (runlevel 3).
The diskless workstation goes well up to the login:

Wall-mounting UIP 200 and SoundPoint IP600 keepscoming off hook
The piece of plastic is built in to the IP600. Use a screwdriver or something
similar and push the little piece of plastic out from the top inside the
cradle. It will pop out, and you can turn it over and reinsert it upside down
to hold the receiver in place.

Looking for wall mountable cases in the UK.
Hi all,
I am in the UK and am struggling to find a decent ATX case which doesn't
look like a PC case and can be wall mounted.
For single BRI installations, I use the Pack-Box from
http://www.icp-epia.co.uk/ which, along with an EPIA board works a treat.
For multiple BRI or PRI installations, I need a similar box which can take a
full size ATX mobo, has full height slots and which can be

I connected my quicknet phonejack to the wall phone outlet and .......
waited for the aroma of burnt electronics. There wasn't any so I went
to the next room and plugged in a telephone on the wall outlet. I
picked up the handset and it rang my asterisk box.
I dont have any phone service.
The phone is working fine and have used it for hours listening to
podcasts. And I can plug it to any phone in the house.
Now I am thinking if I can plug another phone
