Authenticate to existing NTDomain and map to nobody? (Repost)
Hello group.
Sorry, if this shows twice.
I have the following setup requirement, and so far searching the INET and
the mailing archives has brought me nothing.
I have an existing WindosNT/2k/XP domain.
I need to share a directory on a Slackware 9.0 (recent samba).
I need the users authenticated to the Windows Domain, but all then mapped
to nobody (i.e. I do NOT want to map windows

winbindd: local unix users vs. NTdomain users ........
Hi!
I use Samba 2.2.2 on Linux Red Hat 7.1.
My Samba server is NT domain member (security = domain),
and I use winbindd.
I detect some strange situation, as I look. See below.
For example, my NT domain is MYDOMAIN (PDC implemented
on NT4), and this domain have user myuser (MYDOMAIN+myuser
as see him Samba&Winbindd).
Linux, which run Samba&winbindd, have local user myuser too.

About join domain in different subnet.
Hi all:
I have a question about join domain.
If my samba server and domain controller are in different subnet (such =
as 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x), two conditions happened:
ADS domain
1. if I use domain name, then join fail.
2. if I use IP address of domain controller, join success.
However, in both cases I can't retrieve domain users/groups.
Is it necessary for samba sever and domain

authentication using both ADS and smbpasswd
Hi
My Samba configuration uses ADS for user authentication. I have a request to grant users access who are not members of ADS. Is it possible to set up both smbpasswd and ADS authentication? I've looked through the archives without any success. If Samba 3.0 doesn't support this, can someone tell me how they have resolved this situation?
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Cathy

Craig,
Sorry for the late reply. I got pulled off on some other projects and
am just now getting back to this.
Evidentally, I had spent too much time looking at this last week. When
I opened up /etc/passwd, it

Re: samba Digest, Vol 32, Issue 9
I've tried "wins support = true" (and "wins support = yes"... just in
case). I stopped and restarted the samba daemons and rebooted the
WinXP client. I have no change in the results. Based on something I
read in the troubleshooting part of the HowTo, I added the address of
the server to the Wins tab in the advanced section of the TCP/IP
properties... still no results :(

List owners of course have the option to knock people out but are almost
always wisest not to use that power except when absolutely necessary and
I'm quite certain that it hadn't reached that state.

Just received one of these things for each email I sent to CentOS list
early this morning...about a 6.5 hour lag time...
what gives? I bet everyone starts seeing them real soon now unless it's
just my great fortune...
you should consider bouncing this subscription if it's valid.

See if you can connect as samba user from samba box...

smbclient -L WHATEVER_YOUR_SERVER_NAME -U Michael
but note - casing is rather odd and might be your problem. UNIX is case
sensitive but Windows/Samba is not case sensitive...
therefore Samba will see 'Michael' as 'michael' and

USB device not connected (CentOS 5.3)
I just tried this with CentOS 5.3 as well, and got exactly the same
symptoms and dmesg output. (As a point of comparison, Ubunu 8.04 on
my work laptop is able to access the drive.)
Obviously "not detected" is a misapprehension, though I'm puzzled why
"lsusb" doesn't show it. The device is there even though the
partition table can't be read.
