WinXP Profiles
Does anyone know how to edit smb.conf so that a users profile won't be saved
upon log out? Or how to get it done any other way?

WinXP client can't browse list for the domain it joined
Hi,
I just configured a RH9 with Samba 3.0.2a as the PDC for XP clients
network. The XP clients can join the domain. When I trying to browse the
"Microsoft Windows Network" on the client XP machines, I can see all the
old Workgroups and the list of XP machines in those workgroups, and I
can see the new domain (ZEUS1) I just created with the PDC's name, which
is "hermes",

Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC.
I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation.
Problem:
User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can
tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However,
unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

Problem with win2k and winXP
Hello,
I have a network, where users want to login with their same username from
Windows 2000 and from Windows XP on a samba PDC.
When the machines logon, I can see the OS in the logfile of the machine on
my server, but i cannot use different profiles for Win2k and WinXP, because
the %a in smb.conf always gives back Win2k.
The profiles of win2k and winXP aren't compatible, so i can't just

WinXP-SP1 breaks profiles...
Just thought you'd like to know that SP1 for Windows XP breaks romaing
profiles up to and including 2.2.5.
This has been confirmed by MIT at the following link:
http://web.mit.edu/swrt/winxp/
See the section "Software Compatiblity Test Matix/Testing SP1"
We have found this to be the case as well....
I'm cross-posting this to samba-technical as well....we will work on some

I think that is a oplock problem in the profile path.
see oplock in smb.conf manual

Roaming profiles on WinXP SP1 and samba....
Hi Everyone,
I have read as much as I can find about this subject and still am no
closer to understanding why my roaming profiles are not working
correctly.
I have an existing Samba server with RP working. Now I need to move this
to new server due to HW failure on original server.
Configs almost identical. Profiles now reside on a different partition,
but I' ve told samba where to find them.

WinXP not creating profile
I have just installed a new samba PDC following
http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu-gutsy-samba-domaincontroller-p2
but my winXP clients don't save their profile. It is created a
directory /home/samba/profiles/USER with permission 700 but no file is
saved there. The computer I amb testing with was in the old samba PDC
saving the profile with no problem, so I suppose is a samba problem.
Any hint

Roaming Profiles - WinXP and Win7
Hello All,
Today I was able to implement Samba4 as a DC with AD in a test
environment. I eventually got it all working and was able to join the
domain from two different virtual machines. I was also able to set up a
roaming profile share and configure a user to utilize this share. My
issue is that when I first logged into the domain after setting up the
roaming profiles I did so from a

WinXP SP1 breaks roaming profiles.
We've applied SP1 for WinXP on several machines and now roaming profiles
don't work them.
I tried swithching "nt acl support = yes" as previously mentioned on this
list but this still doesn't
work for us and we continue to get the following error:
Windows did not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with
your local profile. Changes to the profile

'profiles' command with WinXP Profiles
Hi all,
I have gotten the 'profiles' command to work for NT and Win2K profiles very
well. In Windows XP, I am able to change the 'owner' but not the 'group'
SID. It gives no errors but it just doesn't change them. A snippet of the
profile in question is below:
furnsrv:/data/samba/profiles/jon # profiles NTUSER.DAT |grep S-1-5
Owner SID: S-1-5-32-544

ive installed samba 3 on a debian 4, the samba server should act like a pdc.
at the moment it work that user can login on my clients (all windows xp pro

WinXP and Samba
After searching the archives here and at MS, have been unable to find a
solution to this issue.
When browsing the network using WinXP explorer, the network is clobbered by
its search for
desktop.ini files for each folder. I have 2 Samba servers (1 running 2.2.7
and 1 running 3.0.0).
Everything works OK except for a slight delay in the initial directory
display. When I looked at the network

Issues with samba PDC + WinXP clients
Hello,
I've been trying to configure samba 3.0.23d to work as PDC for a few
days now. I can successfully join computer to domain but logging with
user credentials fails with error message:
The system can not log you on due to the following error:
The system cannot find message text for message number 0x%1 in the
message file for %2
Eventlog on windows side doesnt show anything usefull.
