PDC and logon script
Hi everyone,
I have a question about the logon script command. I've read and read and
read the man page for smb.conf. In essence, I've duplicated the settings on
the PDC how-to document to create a PDC with a logon script. However, when
I log in, the scrips doesn't run. The only thing I don't have enabled, like
the how-to, is roaming profiles. I'll include my smb.conf for

Use client driver
Good day everyone,
Just a quick question. When using Samba 2.2.7a and Cups 1.17 or 1.18, is it
good or bad to use "Use client driver" as a share setting on the Printers
share? I used it with LPD, but I'm not real sure it's necessary with cups.
Thanks in advance

Samba printing and CUPS
Well, I have a strange one again. Using samba version 2.2.5 and cups
version 1.1.15. We have 2 printers over the network, both TCP/IP-based
Jetdirect printers. on is on x.x.x.32, the other on x.x.x.38. I can print
to the laserjet on IP 32 all day long. However, both on Windows clients,
print jobs are not even seen in the que (either windows print que or CUPS
web interface). When I try to

DNS server and printing.
Good afternoon,
This is my first post, so please be gentle ;)
Anyway, here's my question....I've recently put together a Linux Server for
our company, replacing an old Novel server. I have the box set up with
Samba, as a PDC on our network. So far, just about everything is working
correctly.
One issue I'm coming up against, though, is printing from DOS. I
have Samba

Samba/CUPS printing again
Hello...again...Y'all are getting sick of me, aren't ya? ;)
Anyway, I am having quite the dilemna about printing. I'm using samba
2.2.7a aong with cups-1.1.5. I know this is an old version of cups, but
this is a production server and I don't want to fool with it yet. Anyway,
we have 2 printers: HP laser Jet 4 Plus and an Office Jet R80. each are
running off a jet direct. One

RE: [Private] RH8 and Samba 3
Gordon,
I did as you suggested, and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the
suggestion However, this is contrary to the given docs on how to use CUPS
with Samba, is it not?

Cannot print PDF-Files...
Hi,
I have a network with a Server running 3.0.14 (Debian sarge), which is
doing quite fine as a PDC and as a printer server (using cups). Almost.
Printing is working, I can print Windows test pages, I can print
from several applications, including MS office. But I cannot print
over the network from Acrobat Reader, not at all. If a network
printer is selected and used, than _nothing_ happens,

Windows notification
Good morning everyone,
Does anyone know of a way for Samba, or Linux, to send a notification to
Windows users, as they log in, that there password has or is expiring in a
certain number of days? I've thought about sending a network broadcast
using Samba, but I have no idea how to do it automatically, based on a 60
day password life and X number of days warning before it expiring. Right
now,

Password Expiration
Is there any work going on for Samba 2.0.6 in the way of
making passwords expire ?
Or does anyone know how to do it ?
Thanks.

cups printing
I have searched around the samba documentation, including the smb.conf man
page, and have found nothing regarding the cups printing system except
change printcap to cups. Now, I have done that, but printing still does
not work. I need some types of details and a sample smb.conf and/or any
other relevant documentation.
Thanks much,

RE: 2.2.7a logon script will not run (Rich Forman)
Rich,
Within the past 6 or 8 months, I to have upgraded my Samba to 2.2.7a. My
Conf file is similar to yours, except for your script path. What I have is
a global parameter of "logon script=" and then a [netlogon] share for the
script path. with that setup, I'm able to map drivers, set the time, run
liveupdate automatically and run "Automatic Updates" on my W2K machines.

Hi All,
when i did testing with group mapping, i mapped a Unix Group(domadm) with Windows Domain Group(domain users). then i access a samba share from Windows Domain User(administrator), and create a file. but the file's group is still Windows Domain Group(domain user), not Unix Group(domadm). is it right? if it is, how should i check if my group mapping is working well? thanks a lot in

After Upgrading to rc4 (and still with 3.0.0) having Groupmap problems.
Hi,
Before Samba 3.0.0 RC4 I was running Samba 3.0.0 beta3, and when I
upgraded to RC4, I began having problems with group mappings. I didn't
notice at first, because on my laptop I don't normally log on to the
domain. I just noticed when I tried to use my desktop and log on to the
domain... I don't have Domain Admin privileges.
So, I look at 'net groupmap list' ... and it

Samba 2.2.5 & Domain Administrator
Although I will be updating this server to Samba 3.x soon, I have to come
up with a quick solution as soon as possible for the following problem:
I have a WinXP user which currently is registered as a "User" of WinXP
but must be changed to "Domain Admin" in order for some new
software which he must use to be operable. Of course giving him the root
passwd is definately out of

Permissions on Samba share for Windows users
I'm working with Samba 3 on my Gentoo box. So far setting up
andconfiguring Samba w/ldap and krb5 support is pretty straight
forwared. My Gentoo box is now a member server of the domain, shows up
in Active Directory.
I can get a kerbereos ticket from our W2K PDC and connect to windows
shares with as little effort as:
smbclient //server/share -k
Now I'm ready to start moving into
