Samba/Unix password sync with LDAP backend
I have been using Samba+Linux+openLDAP. The password synchronization between the Samba and Unix accounts works well with the use of the "ldap passwd sync" parameter in smb.conf. Now I am in the process of installing my first server using CentOS/Red Hat/389 Directory Server and this does not work in the same way. It seems that some additional software must be installed in each

Bundled Netscape DS 5.x schema in Samba3.0rc2
Hi All, The bundled "samba-schema-netscapeds5.x" file provides the schema for Samba 2.2.x attributes not 3.x. I have successfully imported this schema into the iPlanet directory server, and then run the smbldap-migrate-accounts.pl script. This created posixAccount objects but not sambaAccount objects. I later learned that the script calls smbldap-useradd.pl which is designed to create

Cannot set a "Domain group" membership with ldapSAM
Hello everybody! I should have an error on the LDAP entries of my ldapSAM, but I've read several times chapters 11 & 12 of the Samba HOWTO Collection and I cannot fix it. Let's explain: I've got a StandAlone fileserver (not PDC) samba-3.0.4 with ldapSAM working on a RedHat Enterprise 3.0 (linux kernel 2.4.25). The directory server version shouldn't be important, but

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP backend for my Samba domain. I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the userPassword field. Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p it reads: userPassword::

Samba 3.0 + LDAP userPassword -> sambaNTPassword manual sync?
First, the software: Samba 3.0.0 OpenLDAP 2.0.27 nssldap / pam_ldap Redhat 9 This may be more of a question for the OpenLDAP mailing list.. but does anyone know of a method (perhaps using slappasswd?) to hand-sync userPassword attributes to sambaNTPassword attributes? Deploying Samba 3.0 as pdc pretty soon, used Migration Tools on the mail server soon, and I'd really like to be able to tell

Samba, OpenLDAP and Passwords
Hi, I have an existing OpenLDAP directory, that I want to use as the backend for a Samba 3 instance. I do not want for now making Samba a Domain Controller, but only define in it some shares accessible by users on LDAP. I have imported in my slapd.conf the samba schema, and I have inserted in my smb.conf all the directives for connecting to an LDAP server: passdb backend =

ldap passwd sync on 3.0.25a
I have an strange issue with ldap passwd sync = only on FreeBSD 6.1 with Samba 3.0.25a + OpenLDAP 2.3.37 I have the OpenLDAP smbk5pwd overlay which successfuly synchronizes LM and NT passwords: $ ldappasswd -D 'cn=sambamgr,ou=managers,o=stars' -w sambapass -s secret1 'uid=lacoste,ou=Users,ou=Accounts,o=stars' Result: Success (0) My OpenLDAP auditlog file confirms that smbk5pwd

LDAP help!
Hey list, Right now I have Samba+LDAP working (like a charm acctually) I just have one issue. Right now Samba is authenticating the user against the sambaLMPassword and/or the sambaNTPassword attributes. I would rather it authenticated against the userPassword attribute like my unix boxes and mail servers do. Is samba capable of doing this? Otherwise I have to maintain two seperate passwords

Migration, which password?
Greetings! It is premature for me to send out a "success procedure for migration" yesterday. I overlooked things and I appologize for to this group. Anyway, after migration, computers, users, groups are all created and filled up with the correct membership. However, I still have the same problem with machine password and user password. Further looking into the detail, it looks

End of File Error on index optmize
I was optimizing a 650MB using ferret (0.11.3) and I received the following error. I''ve seen some people have similar issues but I haven''t seen any resolutions. The contents of the index directory follow the error. Has anyone seen anything like this and found a resolution? Many thanks. /mnt/apps/search/releases/20070622175637/script/../config/../vendor/

pamsmb_pass, userPassword & samba(LM/NT)Password
Hi All, Has anyone used pam_smbpass before with Samba 3 and Solaris 9? The problem I am facing is that the sambaNTPassword/sambaLMPassword and the posixAccount userPassword attributes are not the same. While I can use "net rpc vampire" to migrate the lanman password hashes the posixAccount attribute remains unpopulated. I have discovered that the smbldap tools has scripts to

Samba authentication against 389 DS
Hello, I am using Centos 6 with 389 DS. Everything is working, I can authenticate my users against it etc. Now I am trying to make Samba authenticate against the LDAP by following http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Howto:Samba However, it seems that Samba does not read the 'password' value, but 'sambaNTPassword'. I wrote in 389-DS mailing list and they said, that there

iplanet ldap and samba
Is there a good how-to on getting samba to work with Iplanet LDAP ? I already installed it and started configuring from bits and pieces I could find with google, but there're still many things missing. I also found a posting that said samba schema for Iplanet5 shipped with Samba 3.0.8 isn't up to date. What would need to be changed ? Basically I'm looking for a complete walkthrough,

LDAP with posix account (userPassword only)
I've setup samba to use LDAP passdb backend and it works fine. LDAP has sambaNTPassword and more samba entities. But I wonder if I can make samba work with userPassword only. I think somebody is doing it and I look at their config but couldn't find anything special. Thanks. [global] workgroup = NT netbios name = SAMBASERVER server string = NT Master passdb

userPassword in a LDAP database of a Samba3 domain
Hi folks, I have been able to migrate a WinNT4 domain to a Samba3 PDC domain using openldap as a backend and smbldap-tools to vampire the WinNT4 domain (pretty much following Samba3 by Example and documentation in smbldap project by IDEALX). Nevertheless, all 600 users migraged from the WinNT4 domain have attributes like these on the ldap database: userPassword: {crypt}x

pGINA and samba - authentication against LDAP userPassword field?
Hi, Back to a while ago, someone mentioned about taking pGINA code to samba, so samba can work against LDAP authentication, but instead of using the sambaNTPassword and sambaLMPassword, this way samba can use the userPassword field directly. This sounds very promissing because we can then just use one set of passwords. It may be not usable in a domain enviroment where machine accounts and other
