[Fwd: Still having groupmap problems]
I turned on debug level 10 (by adding -d 10 to the net command), and I
see this over and over again in the syslog:

Still having groupmap problems
I have two samba servers on two separate subnets that are comprising a
single domain, and one of the samba servers is also the LDAP server.
I've gotten everything configured except that I can't use the groupmap
command. When I run:
net groupmap add sid=<SID>-512 ntgroup="Domain Admins"
unixgroup=dom_admin type=domain
I get this error over and over again (and

I am trying to setup samba so that I can authenticate users from a
single server, but use multiple file servers to server the home

3.0.13 winxp pro printers offline and don't come online, but you can print to them (shorter version - no log level 10)
Friends,
I have upgraded to 3.0.13 as I thought the random way in which only some
printers are showing as offline on some win xp workstations, and refuse
to come online, even if I use "Use Printer Online" in the properties and
on the other hand on other winxp pro workstations all printers show the
same behaviour, they are all offline. But even though they all show
offline you can print

Win2K or Samba Caching?
I have a PDC that is Samba 3.0 setup to talk to an OpenLDAP server for
authentication, and I was able to get a user to log in to a Windows 2000
machine on the domain. Then I tried adding additional users, but none
of them could log in. So I tried deleting the admin user from the LDAP
database, but the user could still log into the Windows 2000 machine.
Then I tried stopping the LDAP

Groups and LDAP
I'm a little weak on how the groups assignments work with Samba and
LDAP. The Samba HOWTO collection says to map each Domain Group to a
UNIX system group, but if all authentication is done via LDAP (Unix and
Windows) then do the groups still have to exist on the Samba Unix
machine? Where do the RIDs fit into all this? I don't see a schema in
LDAP for sambaGroup. Do I create the

Home Drive Mapping problems
I've got Samba 3.0 on a Debian stable system set up to authenticate
using an LDAP server (also on the Debian system), and I'm having
problems getting home drive mapping to work. What I would like, is that
if someone browses to the Samba server (on a win2k PC), they can see all
the home drives of all the users on the server and also have read-only
access to them. The owner of a home

Samba + LDAP
Does anyone know if the binaries provided by the Samba team are compiled
with LDAP support? I've tried 2.2.8a and 3.0.0 for Debian, but both
complain that the ldap parameters (like ldap server) for unknown.

help with multiple imputation using imp.mix
I am desperately trying to impute missing data using 'imp.mix' but always
run into this yucky error message to which I cannot find the solution. It's
the first time I am using mix and I'm trying really hard to understand, but
there's just this one step I don't get...perhaps someone knows the answer?
Thanks!

Samba 2.2 -> 3.0.0 upgrade: questions + Internet Connection Wizard / Identities
Hello,
I just upgraded from Samba 2.2.7 to Samba 3.0.0 on RedHat 9. I did this by uninstalling the 2.2.7 samba RPM's and then applying the Samba 3.0.0 RPM from samba.org, then putting my local changes back into smb.conf. I have also migrated my smb users from smbpasswd to tdbsam with the pdbedit utility as discussed in the HOWTO.
It seems I have to rejoin my client boxes (windows 2000 pro)

winbind finds all domain users except Administrator
Okay, right.
Is there anything that the Samba admininistrator account can do that the
users in the group domain admins can't (other than direct configurations on
the samba server)?
Also on a kind of unrelated note: I have several Unix servers that used NIS
up until now to get the users. I would prefer if they could get the
username like right now, without the MYDOM\ prefix. Is it possible to

what samba file do I need to change when manually changing gid in /etc/group file?
I have a need to renumber some of my /etc/group numbers from below 100
to a value that is above 500. (e.g 88 -> 535, 91 -> 632, etc etc, about
9 changes in total)
If I had to do this in an earlier version of samba then I think the
correct files I would have to keep in sync would be /etc/group and
/etc/samba/smbpasswd, simply changing the gid from the value below 100
to it's new value

Samba authentication
Hi,
Could someone confirm that the following is NOT possible with Samba:
-Run Samba on a Solaris box WITH NO SMBPASSWD
-Have the users log in on Windows NT, using the Novell NDS client, and
using ENCRYPTION
-Have the users authenticated by Samba through NDS (preferred) or NIS.
My understanding is that if Samba receives the password encrypted, it has
no choice but to use a local smbpasswd (and

hi,
we recently upgraded from samba 2.2.8a w/ldap to samba3 w/ldap and

first symptom is that net groupmap list returns nothing.

[root@lola root]#
if we try to add a groupmapping, the command fails:
net groupmap add sid=<sid-gid> ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadm
