configure error with --enable-dmalloc
Hi list,
I'm trying to compile samba 3.0.1 rc1 with --enable-dmalloc switch because I have been asked to provide more information on a winbindd panic on a Solaris server. However the configure fails with the error shown below,
config.status: creating include/config.h
Note: The dmalloc debug library will be included. To turn it on use
./configure: command substitution: line 3: syntax error:

access controls on shares
hello,
I'm trying to set up a samba serveur with access controls on shares,
like described in chapter 13 section 4 of the samba howto collection,
but I didn't succeed.
I don't know if I need to set "security = DOMAIN", to join the domain
and/or to use winbind.
My server is a simple domain member (the PDC is a NT4 server). I've
tried samba 3.0.0 and 2.2.3a on a debian

pdbedit: importing smbpasswd to tdbsam
Hi there,
I'm trying to import a smbpasswd-file into a Samba 3.0 installation on Debian
Sarge using tdbsam as sole passdb backend.
Copying pdbedit's documentation I used
pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/root/smbpasswd.old
The error message returned was tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT
for [foo] without a primary group RID
where foo is the username to be imported.

CUPS printing on Fedora with 3.0.2 RPMs
I have upgraded my Fedora Core 1 file server from the distribution
supplied 3.0.0 RPMS to the Fedora/Samba 3.0.2 RPMS I found on the Samba
Web Site.
After doing this, printers are not be recognized or shared.
When I restarted the server this message showed up in
/var/log/samba/log.smbd:

sambaProfilePath
dumb question...
if I put \\SERVER\PROFILES\%u in sambaProfilePath for some user and that
user logs in for the first time, it literally creates a %u directory in
the proper folder and not the uid name. Am I dumb? Must I actually hard
code each one in?

Samba 3.0.0 and OS/2 Ecomstations
I can't seem to get samba3.0 to talk nicely to OS/2
Samba 2.2 works flawlessly, but samba 3.0 on Redhat Enterprise 3.0 or
samba 3.0-final-0.b (from backports.org) on debian woody does not
work.
>From the servers point of view, everything seems ok
On the OS/2 client it, the share is mountet and looks good until you
you browse it in the GUI-filebrowser. It says

smbusers and wildcards
It is my understanding that if you have a wildcard in smbusers, it
should only apply this if the particular users is not in your
/etc/password file. Is this true? It appears like samba is rolling
down the smbusers file and everything gets mapped to my wildcard user.
Eg.
smbusers:
root = administrator admin
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
myunixlogin = mysmblogin
www-users = *

Samba 3.0.0 & OpenBSD 3.3: ldap.h not found
Hi!
I'm trying to install Samba 3.0.0 into an OpenBSD 3.3 server. I have
copied ldap.h from OpenLDAP 2.1.22 distribution to /usr/local/include.
However, configure does not seem to find it:

I get the same result with ./configure --libdir=/usr/local/lib

Winbind+OpenLDAP: Id mapping data is stored partially
Hello to all,
I have installed Samba 3.0.0 PDC + OpenLDAP 2.1.
Additionally, I use "wbinfo -c" to create users
and winbindd + libnss_winbind.so to resolve these
users in Unix (SID <-> Unix id mapping).
But I have found that users' data, created by
"wbinfo -c" command, is not completely stored
in LDAP backed.
The "sambaUnixIdPool" objectclass is stored in

Samba 3 as Domain Member / W2k ADS
Hi,
I set up Samba to be a Domain Member in W2k ADS Domain. The
authentication basically works, the only problem is, that a unix account
with the same name is needed on the samba machine for it to work. (The
pw though checked against the ad.)
How do I get rid of the neccessity to have corresponding unix accounts
for the ads users?
Thanks in Advance,

printer permissions <-> ERROR: NULL dest in safe_strcpy (samba 3.0.0)
Hi Jerry et al,
I'm using SAMBA 3.0.0 on Solaris 9, it looks very cute, unfortunately I
can not set the permissions on the printers (I can as an admin add a
user etc. but all changes are lost after applying):-(
Is this somehow related to the error entries in the log file:

ERROR: NULL dest in safe_strcpy
If so will it be fixed in

Fun with veto files
Hi. I have a fileserver running samba 2.2.7 and netatalk 1.5.5 for old
mac clients. Because the mac's are quite spammy with creating
.AppleDouble and other system directories, I've added the following to
smb.conf:
veto files = /.AppleDesktop/.AppleDouble/Network Trash Folder/TheFindByC
ontentFolder/TheVolumeSettingsFolder/System Volume Information/Recycled/

BUG?: 2.2.8a, missing header files for source/passdb/pass_check.c
I'm trying to compile in DFS with the --with-dfs option. There is an #ifdef
WITH_DFS and following that, is some header files that are referenced that I
can't seem to find any where. Is this a bug, or is this because my
operating system doesn't have these files?
I'm running OpenBSD 3.4.
Here is the first portion of config.status:

wbinfo -c duplicate entry
Hi,
With "wbinfo -c user", a entry is created in winbind_idmap.tdb. But if I
retype the same command with same username a second entry (with a
different uid) is created in tdb file.
Is behavior normal ?
See you,

SAMBA DC Compatability with Win200x DC
All,
I'm looking for a bit of a peer review on the following system concept.
The company I'm working with has an office in the USA, and one here in
JAPAN.
They currently have a single domain in the States let's call it US running a
win2000 PDC. They've asked me to set up a second domain here in Japan let's
call it JAPAN. Since the office here is fairly small I'm planning
