Setting home path to a dir within a users Linux home dir
Is there a trick to append an additional directory level onto the defauly behavior of a [homes] share looking in /etc/passwd to find the users Linux home dir? It would offer a bit of protection if Windows clients ended up in say the WinHome directory within their Linux home directory when logging in from Windows so they are not tempted to tamper with their desktop settings files for Linux from

Folder Redirection, Roaming Profiles and Working Offline
Hi, I have been trying to use samba for a while as a way to have an identical desktop/startmenu/profile/favourites/etc on multiple PCs. Samba is setup as the PDC and I can join the domain and login. The problems started firstly when I wanted to have some sort of caching and also logon concurrently to different pcs with the same user. The main problem being that whichever computer I log off

You have in your smb.conf: unix password sync = Yes This possibly means that you have a group in /etc/group called allusers with the ID of 63000 I would replace the line with: ldap password sync

Shares stopped working for groups
Hi, I have a ClearOS 7.8 system which is running samba-4.10.4-11.el7_8.x86_64, and it upgraded to this just over a week ago (probably not relevant). A couple of days ago all the group shares failed. I discovered that if I switched them to the built-in group "allusers" the share worked fine. It fails for any user-defined group but it used to work. Samba is running as a PDC and the

Help configuring Samba-3 to share $HOME directories
I'm looking for help configuring Samba-3 to allow me to share out home directories from a UNIX host to Windows XP clients so that my Windows domain users can read and write to their home directories on the UNIX host. I've attempted to follow the examples in "Samba-3 by Example" to no success. I've also followed the tutorial: http://bob.rasey.net/archives/000137.html, which

Poor linux client performance (comparing to XP)
Hello, I haven't found anything useful googling around so I decided to ask here. I have a Linux server running Samba on 100Mbit/s ethernet. If I connect to it using WinXP, mount some share and download files from it it reaches about 9MB/s transfer rate. Using FTP gives even higher transfer rates. BUT when I use linux to connect to (linux!) server, mount shares and download files then

Samba domain users AWOL from Samba file server.
Using samba-tool on my samba DC, I created several users. On my separate samba file server, joined to the domain, all the users are listed as belonging to Domain Users ( getent group "Domain Users"). However, several domain users are missing from the passwd database on the file server (i.e., nothing returned when I run getent passwd user3). Why would that be? Each user has its own

File locking, Linux Redhat 6.1, samba 2.0.6 and netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.4
Hi, we're trying to use the above combination with Win NT clients, but there doesn't appear to be communication about file locking going on as the mac users are able to corrupt samba's files, is there anything that needs to be turned on/off on samba to tell the netatalk daemons to stop doing nasty things? (or vice versa) Has anybody else had problems with this particularily under
