Failed X11 authentication does the wrong thing
Hi,
if I do the following:

I get:

Xauthority location: only per-user setting possible
Hello all,
$XAUTHORITY location has moved from under /tmp to ~/.Xauthority in 2.9p2.
The commit message was:
---
remove xauth-cookie-in-tmp handling. use default $XAUTHORITY, since
we do already trust $HOME/.ssh
you can use .ssh/sshrc and .ssh/environment if you want to customize
the location of the xauth cookies
---
The latter is true, but can only be enabled in per-user basis as far as I
see.

XAUTHORITY=/tmp/ssh-*/cookies makes forwarding through firewall difficult...
Hi.
I see this XAUTHORITY=/tmp/ssh-*/cookies issue has been discussed
repeatedly, but I haven't seen a solution to the following problem.
Remote user logs into firewall. On firewall, DISPLAY var set to secure
channel, XAUTHORITY set to /tmp/ssh-*/cookies. X11 forwarding from
firewall works fine.
User logs into machine behind firewall, and sets DISPLAY var to
firewall:X11DisplayOffset.0.

X11 forwards and libwrap support
Hi!
Is there any reason why support for the libwrap code isn't included
in the X11 forwarding code? I'd like to restrict access to that
port.
How many applications would break if the tcp port
would be closed and only the unix-domain socket would be available?
It's true that x11 forwardings can be considered as a security
risk and they are disabled because of that by default.

cannot mount ''/export'' directory is not empty
Hello,
I am desperate. Today I realized that my OS 108 doesn''t want to boot.
I have no idea what I screwed up. I upgraded on 108 last week without
any problems.
Here is where I''m stuck:
Reading ZFS config: done.
Mounting ZFS filesystems: (1/17) cannot mount ''/export'': directory is
not empty (17/17)

Fwd: pam_mount configuration for users home directories from server to client
Hi,
I have a debian server with ldap, samba, smbldap-tools installed and
ubuntu clients. I set pam_mount to mount the user's home directories
from the ldap-samba server (amahoro) on the clients at login time and
this runs.
On the server the user's home directories are stored in
"/users" like "/users/username".
Logging by gdm appears the message: "Could not

Problem setting up VNC on SLES10 HVM DomU
I''ve just uneventfully installed SLES10 as an HVM DomU (after finding
out, the hard way, that OpenSUSE 10.3 won''t install on Intel VT).
This almost went without a hitch, but I''ve been banging my head against
a brick wall for a few hours trying to get VNC working. I can get a
remote desktop, but a few seconds after I log in to the remote desktop,

systems hang when accessing parts of the OCFS2 file system
Hi everyone
Firstly, apologies for the cross post, I am not sure which list is most
appropriate for this question. I should also point out, that I did not
install OCFS2 and I am not the person that normally looks after these
kind of things, so please can you bear that in mind when you make any
suggestions (I will need a lot of detail!)

How long to 1.0?
Hi!
I'm wondering how close Dovecot can be said to be to 1.0 "Final". How
stable can the alpha branch be said to be?
I was browsing around the Dovecot homepage, but I couldn't find any
answer to this question. I hope it hasn't been asked (too many times)
before.

help with Xlib
I have a remote session via ssh/vncviewer and I'm logged in and working.
I have opened a terminal and am trying to start the Fedora Directory
Server console (not that this should matter)...
and thus I am typing (as root)...
./startconsole -x nologo -u admin -a MYHOSTNAME:PORT# &
and it fails to launch and returns the following error...
Xlib: connection to "MYHOSTNAME:1.0"

Strange problem with icons on the desktop
Thanks everyone for helping me get the home directories working over
SMB, especially Ben Ford for his workaround for the Xauth and GDM.
Now I've got a problem that, most likely, nobody's ever noticed
before... or is something specific to me. I've got a Linux client, and a
Samba server, and a Windows 2000 server, both set up EXACTLY the same.
I've got a test user and the home

Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server
provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is
running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few
questions regarding Samba and Linux clients.
1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages?
Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

u32 filter won''t match
Hi!
I really need help with a u32 filter that won''t match what I think I''m
telling it to. The situation is that I have set up an internal
computer to change the TOS value of packets sent by certain processes
to 0x1E (If anyone known of a better way to mark packets, please tell
me. I would love to find some module that adds an IP option with UIDs
and GIDs to the packets - does

GSSAPI support status
Hi list!
I'm wondering, what is the current status of GSSAPI (krb5) support in
Dovecot? I know from googling that there used to be a patch for it
around a year ago, but I haven't seen a trace of that patch ever since,
and GSSAPI doesn't even seem to be mentioned in the Dovecot source tree
(at least not according to "grep -irl").
Is GSSAPI planned at all, as it stands? If
