Charset
I have upgraded on my debian server from samba 2.2.3 (stable ) to samba
3.0rc4 (unstable).
The only problem that I have on my PDC is that italian character as ? (a') ?
(u') etc. are non treated as they should and this can cause profiles non to
load correctly.
What should I do?

Deleted smb.conf
I have RedHat 9.1 running. Installed Samba that comes along with the OS to
test it out. When I was playing with it, I deleted the smb.conf file
inadvertently.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Samba utilities, but that didn't help.
How do I get back the default smb.conf file?
Thanks in advance.

Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3
There have been several issues fixes since the 3.0.2 release of Samba. One
of the most important issues is a problem with password changing after
applying the patch described in the Microsoft KB828741 article to Windows
clients.
I want to run Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3. The version provided by RedHat is
samba-3.0.2-6.3E. I can't find any other RPMs or SRPMs for RHEL3. Any help

windows printer queue display fails
I am driving a Suse 8.2 linux with cups 1.1.18 and samba 2.2.7a.
The problem:
The host serves several printers via cups. If some jobs are in one of
the queues "lpq -Pprinter" or "lpstat -o printer" shows up the complete
listing. Fine.
Connected to the same print queue from a Windows (XP/NT/98/2k) box I
cannot see the complete listing. Sometimes I see some of the jobs, most

windows printer queue failure
I am driving Suse 8.2, samba 2.2.7a, cups 1.1.18
As I mentioned recently I cannot see the cups printer queues from a
windows client even if lpq -Pprinter on the cups server gives the
correct status.
I tested a litte more and got the following results:
1.) If I configure samba to
printing = CUPS
printcap name = CUPS
I can see all queue entries in the windows status panel, too --

Windows printer status update fails
Dear samba admins,
I have a samba/cups related problem. I am running SuSE 10.1 with cups
1.1.23 and samba 3.0.22.
The problem is, that my windows printer status boxes don't reflect the
samba printer queues.
My test scenario:
- I use "printing = SYSV" because I need to use "print command", too.
- I installed a new printer named "test", called cupsaddsmb test.

using xfs acls
Hi,
we have a fileserver with xfs filesystems running samba 3.0.22. File
access should (and is) be possible via NFS and samba. I want the ability
to set acls in these filesystems via windows clients -- but I want samba
to map the SIDs to the existing unix uids of my users, not just an
arbitrary mapping. Is this possible?
My idea is using the "idmap backend" to our ldap-server using a

display disk size and free space
Hi,
using samba 3.0.X I have the following situation:
I defined a share [lab] with path = /lab
/lab in fact is bound to an automounter map containing about 20
mountpoints so that (under linux) I am able to access
/lab/A
/lab/B
...
I want the same situation using windows. My [lab] share enables me to use
\\fileserver\lab\A
\\fileserver\lab\B
...
So far so good. But the data concerning disk size

Dear samba users,
I have a SuSE linux machine running samba 3.0.13 working as a print

Suddenly one of my machines (a terminal server) can't connect to

smbpasswd -a ldapsam problem
Hello,
I noticed the following issue:
when I add the default configuration for ldapsearches from the Howto
collection ?10.4.4.6, example 10.2
ldap filter = (&(uid=%u)(objectclass=sambaSamAccount))
to smb.conf I cannot run
smbpasswd -a [username]
anymore. It works fine without the ldap filter statement.
I noticed that the ldap queries are different with ldap filter activated

Samba3: group mapping with samba PDC, LDAP account flags
Hello again,
this mainly affects documentation:
a) net groupmap is a fine thing. Though: is it optional or do I have to
map some groups for proper client operation ( W2k/XP pro) ? If so, which
Windows groups have to be mapped?
b) There are "Account flags" both visible in the LDAP directory as well
as in pdbedit's output. The examples always refer to UX, while smbpasswd
just sets

Samba3: machine account uid
Hello,
Setup: Samba 3rc3 PDC, ldapsam based, Openldap 2.1, RedHat 9
Question: Is it possible to assign the same UID to all machine accounts?
I am referring just to the number, of course there has to be one entry
for each machine with it's own unique username.
Questions Background: Personally I would prefer a "non unix account
solution" for Windows machine accounts. Nevertheless

winxp client - directory listing fails
Hello All,
I'm having problems accessing getting a directory listing from
samba(3.0.23d) with win xp clients.
I can mount a share from win xp, create a directory, create a file, edit
the file, etc. But listing the directory contents is fickle. If its a
very small directory things appear to work fine. But a directory with
around 30 files seems to hang and eventually returns "File Not

The issue I'm having is that not all files appear in folder listings via

files on the same share but not neccessarily in the same folder. I've since

Missing files on Windows client side.
In a directory with approximately 6000 files, several files are missing on
the Windows side.
If I check the directory on Unix (AIX) they are all there.
As far as I can see there's nothing strange with this files en I can't see
any connection between the missing files.
It looks like it's randomly.

problem setting up dfs
Hi,
I'm trying to set up msdfs on FreeBSD 4.10 with samba 3.08.
The clients I use are WinXp (sp1) and the desktop browser on RedHat ES3.
Problems described beneath are identical for both clients.
I tried to follow the howto as precisely as possible to not into
problems, however, I did...
In /export/dfsroot I made a link msdfs:strsvr01\part0 . I made sure
everything is in lower case.
