Bizarre LDAP behaviour
I'm trying to get Samba set up to read all account information from my existing LDAP directory. I have nss_ldap set up and working correctly. I'm using Mandrake 10.0, and the problem occurs both with their Samba 3.0.2a packages and the Samba 3.0.4 RPMs from samba.org. When Samba queries the LDAP server, it seems to be using the admin DN as the *search base*, rather than using the suffix

samba 3.0.0-1 + OpenLDAP
Hi All, after so much suffering I finally have my rh9 box working with openldap-2.0.0.27-8 and samba-3.0.0-1. I still have some problems as follow: 1 - Once I've joined a machine to the Domain I only can logon using root user; if I try to logon as Administrator the system tells me that username and/or password are not correct. 2 - If I try to use the parameter 'passdb backend =

Migration samba 3 to 4
Hello, On my current installation samba announces domain dom.domain, windows machines and users are registered on domain dom.hilaire, root dn of my ldap is dc = domain, dc = fr. At first I tested a migration by applying the vm of my server samba3 and my ldap. I migrated these VMs out of the production network and validated that with a pc from my production network (once the network settings

Cannot join server to Samba4 NT4 domain
I have a Samba 4 NT4 PDC (Version 4.1.17-Debian) with openLDAP. I would like to add another server, and have it authenticate users against openLDAP. I thought I had to add the new server to the domain with "net rpc join", but that seems to think I want to join an AD domain, and fails: # net rpc join -U root%mypassword No realm has been specified! Do you really want to join

Winbind behaviour odd in 3.4.9 and 3.5.6 vs 3.2.14 (Samba domain with Samba member servers)
Hi, I have recently upgraded a system with a Samba BDC, PDC and a couple of member servers from 3.2.14 to 3.4.9 (and also tested with 3.5.6). There appears to be some problem with Winbind (we need to run it on all servers as we have a trust relationship to a domain at another office). I have an Idmap range set up in our LDAP database. With 3.2.14, all worked well. The Idmap ou would be

Secondary Groups and Group Mapping
We are having what appears to be two main issues in our attempt to setup Samba 3.0.0 compiled from src on Solaris 8. We are using Samba to provide Unix shares on W2K clients, and to authenticate against a W2K Active Directory server. OpenLDAP is used on the Samba side for the UID/GID to SID mappings. The first issue deals with the file sharing. Even if a file gives full permission to one of a

Samba 3.0.28a
I have a test environment running Fedora 8 and Samba 3.0.28a on two PDC's and one Domain Member. I have a DOM-A PDC with a ldap backend, running winbind. I have a DOM-B PDC with a ldap backend, running winbind. The two domains have trusts both ways. I also have a domain member called TESTSERVER joined to the DOM-A domain, running winbind. I was running 3.0.28 on TESTSERVER and I could do

Computer in Samba 4.3.11 domain - logon server unavailable
We've a Samba 4 domain (no AD, just DC) with LDAP backend on Ubuntu 14.04. This server has been migrated from files backend to LDAP by the previous maintainer, I know the version is pretty old but we cannot update at the moment. The domain works fine with some W7 and W10 (updated from 7) computers, but we have purchased a new Lenovo laptop with Win10 which joined the domain seamlessly but

visibility of groups when multiple Samba servers use the same LDAP server
Hi, we are using a _single_ LDAP server as backend for _multiple_ Samba standalone file servers (security=user). This LDAP server serves mainly other purposes and access for Samba is read only so the situation is not optimal but "it works for us". Still I don't understand one phenomenon concerning visibility of LDAP groups. The LDAP configuration in smb.conf for all our Samba

default profile
Hi, I installed a SaMBa PDC and a BDC. When I log in to an XP client with a new user, sometimes I get the initial profile settings from the netlogon share, but often from local. When I get the local default settings, it is not syncronized to the server at logout. Even if I get the new profile from the server, on the same client, next time, with a new user, I get the new profile from local. I

Samba roaming profile with folder redirection
Hi, I have a domain controller which was configured to use the local profiles. We have a relatively small group whose work required it. Now we are moving toward using the domain for all machine with roaming profile. There are a lot of posts dealing with the roaming profiles and the folder redirection. But I've met some issues. My configuration: NS3 and SMB are hostnames of our servers.
