Win95 client can see everyone but linux box
Hi,
I'm lucky enough to have samba working fine on SuSE 8.0, sharing a
printer with several windows computers.
Earlier today I even had my new wireless card working on a Win95 laptop
and it could see the whole network, and I wirelessly printed from my
living room. COOL.
Unfortunately, I screwed it up.
The wireless card seems to conflict with the old pcmcia (wired) card and

Win98 clients not 'seeing' each other
Hi there,
I have a somewhat wide experience with samba. I've succesfully installed
it as a client as well as a PDC on Windows networks.
The last time, however, there has been an issue with the win9x stations.
I've setup the Samba server over Linux to act as a PDC for the domain. I
use dhcp to assign the network configuration to the hosts, and the only
protocol installed on them is

hat machine, set permissions 777, I can see the samba server on my windows

When I click on the listed samba server in my network neighborhood, a logon
screen is returned, I have tried every userid and pw

Seeing two different user folders!!!!!
In my high school computer lab I have Red HAt 5.0 with SAMBA being
used as a file server. The kids are getting used to it. But recently
I'm seeing something strange. A student with id "james" will log on
Windows 95, go to network neighborhood and to the Linux computer and
find there among other normal items two folders. The first will be
his own folder with his id, but the second

Issues with Joining an NT4 Domain
Hello
I'm having some dificulties joining my Samba 3.0alpha (and 2.2.7a)
machine to my NT4 domain. Let me tell you what I'm attempting to
accomplish. I want to setup the Samba system to authenticate to my NT
domain so that I can use NTLM Proxy authentication with SQUID. Through
reading the docs, I'm under the impression that in order to allow thre

Windows can't see Samba server in Network Neigborhood
I have a private IP network with one win98 PC and one Linux PC. The
windows machine can only access shares if I map a network drive and type
the path in explicitly. When I go to network neighborhood the Linux PC
does not show up. Both machines are in the same workgroup, so it should
be there. When I type the path directly into the address bar in network
neighborhood the program stops

Multiple NT users on a single box
I have a win2000 box for multiple users. Each user has their own user name and
password which is authenticated on the same box. I also have a Linux/Samba box
serving up files and shared directories. The users and passwords are
duplicated on the linux box - I'm not using user/pass synchronization or
anything like that, I just duplicate the effort (for now).
Each winNT user has a drive

Adding a linux box to an NT domain
Hi,
we already have an NT network here, but I've recently added a linux box to
our domain (FLORIDA). Basically I want the linux box to be accessible
through network neighborhood like any other workstation but I don't want it
to be the domain controller.
Are there any how-to's specifically on this topic?
If not, what settings do I have to do in the smb.conf file to get it to
work?

Why can't I see this share machine in Network Neighborhood
Help!
I have a simple home network. I have samba [2.2.7a]
running with the smb.conf file listed below. I can see this
machine in network neighborhood on a Win98 machine and a
WinNT 4.0 machine, but I cannot see this share from a Win2K
machine.
If I issue a net use command from the cmd window on the
Win2K machine I can mount the share and then open it as normal.
WHY can't I see

Blocking workgroup discovery
Hi all,
At my work I`ve set up a VPN. When I connect to it, my colleagues see
all the workgroups from my side of the VPN (I live on a campus with ~50
workgroups). Do you know how I block the workgroup discovery on through
the VPN gateway? Is the broadcast done on a specific port? Is samba
actively repeating the broadcast and their replies?
Greetings

can see my workgroup
I just want to set up a folder on my Linux 7.2 running samba 2.2.1a-4. I
have looked at the smb.conf over and over. Cannot find out why my share is
not showing up. I just want users on my domain to browse the network and
read the folder. I am on an NT domain and the furthest i got was seeing
the workgroup testgrp on my network neighborhood. But when i click on the
workgroup i get an access

strange behavior maybe dependent on valid users
Hi!
My problem:
I have a network with many workgroups and my samba server 3.0alpha21cvs
is the only member of one of that workgroups.
If I went to the network neighborhood and tried to open the workgroup of
my samba server I got an error message saying that the workgroup
"mygroup" was not available.
So I minimized the settings in the global section of my smb.conf and I

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi,
i'm reading:
samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441
... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS
network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both
TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols,
the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if

cannot see the samba server when browsing
I would like to know if there is a rule that can be created in iptables that would allow a samba server shares to be seen on the internal LAN. The interface is on eth0 the ip address of eth0 is 192.168.0.1. It seems that when I applied a firewall I have blocked smb from showing up. Now the users cannot see any shares via Network Neighborhood , but I can map a drive via
