Which Linux best suits Samba3?
In a discussion with one of the main answer people, of whose time I am greatly appreciative, it was suggested that some of my problem (or solution) may be to run Samba on a distro that's better suited for it. Problem is, I don't have the time nor the inclination to download a bunch of distros just to install, test, fdisk, repeat. So I ask. what is a recommended recent distro that works

Samba 3.0.1 from samba.org shows "bgmilne" as username
When I attempted to "rpm -i samba3-3.0.0-1.1mdk.src.rpm" this morning on my Mandrake 9.2 box, I got an unusual message that doesn't make sense. It said, over and over (thirteen times total): WARNING: user bgmilne does not exist - using root When it went back to root prompt, I did an "updatedb", but nothing for "samba-3" is found when I did the urpmi request.

Is Samba 3 stable for Mandrake 9.2?
Not to be the annoying child, but I have found myself uniquely annoyed that I can't update RPMs that include Samba 3, and I'm not certain if that's because it's even ready for Mandrake 9.2. Does anyone have a bead on this? Should I just go back to 2.2.8 and wait for the stable, or can someone point out a URL that has a stable 3.0 on it? Thanks Eric

OT - What are these crazy messages?
I'm just dying to know what the origin of these messages with the txt attachments is. I get quite a few here, and even some in other mailing lists. But they're all unique; the attachment filename starts with ATT (followed by four or five digits), and are 192 bytes long. The senders are often different. Anyone got a bead on this? Eric

2k and 9x connect and print, XP won't
Good day! I am running Samba3 on a Mandrake 9.1 box. Right now, I have "security = user", but am not using any password authentication yet. I have 95 and 98 computers that can reach the shares available and print to the installed printer, and even a Windows 2000 user can do all of this. However, an XP computer I have can't go there. I double-click "DRAKEJAX" (the

Changing SWAT port or removing 2.2.7
Some of you have already read about my newbie fortune with this Samba3 install. Thanks to those who answered my original questions. Now I have something which I know is probably academic, and perhaps still newbie-related. When I installed Samba3 on Friday, it took me a little while to figure out that my names required adding a 3 to the end (SWAT3, SAMBA3, TESTPARM3, et al). I did not uninstall

stepwise with F statistics
Hi Community R I need to make a stepwise using F statistics as a criteria to choose variables.I have 3 independant variables and one dependant variable, and I need to choose the best model fitting to my data using F statistics. The problem is I haven't found any package to do such operation. I have found packages to choose variables using significance level like "stepback" from

Shorewall prerouting to a manual proxy

Win2k auth on named share fails on mixed Windows network.
Hi there, Background: Samba 3.6.6 compiled from source on Debian Squeeze using the Debian- installed Kerberos (1.8.3) libraries. Running in an Active directory domain with mixed Win2k Server and Win2k3 Server DCs. Yes, I've been trying to persuade them. Both WINS and DNS name resolution work on the system. Samba uses the DCs for WINS, and the DCs are also name servers with an additional

Maximum likelihood estimate of bivariate vonmises-weibulldistribution
Thanks Dimitris!!! That's much clearer now. Still have a lot of work to do this weekend to understand every bit but your code will prove very useful. Stats Question: Single data item versus Sample from Normal Distribution
Hi. I have a question that I have asked in other stat forums but do not yet have an answer for. I would like to know if there is some way in R or otherwise of performing the following hypothesis test. I have a single data item x. The null hypothesis is that x was selected from a normal distribution N(mu,sigma). The alternate hypothesis is that x does not come from this distribution. However, I

dom0 - oom-killer - memory leak somewhere ?
Hello, I work in a hosting company, we have tens of Xen dom0 running just fine, but unfortunately we do have a few that get out of control. Reported behaviour : - dom0 uses more and more memory - no process can be found using that memory - at some point, oom killer kicks in, and kills everything, until even ssh the box becomes hard - when there is really no more process to kill, it crashes

Maximum likelihood estimate of bivariate vonmises-weibull distribution
Hi, I'm dealing with wind data and I'd like to model their distribution in order to simulate data to fill-in missing values. Wind direction are typically following a vonmises distribution and wind speeds follow a weibull distribution. I'd like to build a joint distribution of directions and speeds as a VonMises-Weibull bivariate distribution. First is this a stupid question? I'm

if function and apply
Runninn R.2.3.1 Windows XP I have a dataset just imported from SPSS. It has any number of 99's as missing data and it looks like the next dataset will have custom missing codes. I have abouat 120 variables and an N of 2000. "I think" thatI would like to apply a function to the data.frame (or to a matrix of the data if needed) to recode all the 99's to NA. I thought that I

changing kickoff time
Hello everybody, we moved our samba server to a new machine. This included changing the samba version from 3.024 to 3.4.2 and changing the OS from Linux to Opensolaris. Samba was compiled from scratch. Passdb Backend is tdb. After the upgrade everything works fine......except: Some users can not login, due to an expired account. Further investigation showed that the "Kickoff Time"

[FORGED] Generating random data with non-linear correlation between two variables
The goal is to test a developed model against two sets of hypothetical data, where the relationship between on data set is linear whereas non-linear (e.g., polynomial) with another. However, the distributions of the v1 and v2 should not be other than normal or slightly positively skewed or slightly negatively skewed. In Oracle, random data is generated with packaged function

CHMODded group directories don't keep their attributes
I have Samba 2.2.8 on Mandrake 9.2, and have successfully been able to create a folder that grants browse and write permissions to an NT group. But I had to go about it the weird way; after I proved that this user could browse the share (and that a person not in the group couldn't), I noticed that my group member couldn't write to the share. I experimented with different CHMOD things, and
