NMBD cannot find Domain Master
I'm running version: 2.0.7 on RH 7.0 on a small LAN at home with Win98, WinME
and Win2K computers. Samba seems to be working well, except that my nmbd.logs
are filled with the following messages:

Problem with virtual mail user login users uid not permitted
Hello,
I am trying to run exim 4.68 and dovecot 1.0.13 on Solaris 10 x86 5/08
using dovecot lda and sieve with virtual users and domains, tls and
ssl. At the moment certificates are from my internal CA Exim and
Dovecot, dovecot lda and dovecot sieve were downloaded and installed
from Blastwave. Mail delivery (ie from Exim to dovecot via dovecot
lda) is working correctly but when I try

joining a w2k machine to a samba domain
I hope someone has some ideas on this problem I've hitting against
since yesterday afternoon.
I've set up a samba server (samba 2.2.3a on RH7.2) as a PDC as per the
combined samba howto docs. I have no problem joining Win9x machines to
the domain but cannot add a w2k machine to the domain. It always fails
with the message (on the W2K worksation):
login failure: unknown user name or

How do I create a globally accessible directory [partly solved] (XP works/98 doesn't)
I just want a simple, globally accessible directory for anyone on my
LAN. I don't care who they are, who they're logged in as on their
windows machine, I don't care about security (it's my own private
LAN!!!). Why is this so difficult to do? I've looked through the
archives (which by the way, could someone spend a few minutes and put a
SEARCH feature there. Following threads

Accessing Samba share with Win2k
I'm running Samba version 2.07 on Redhat Linux 7.0.
After some minor issues with file creation permissions (needed to be 0664) on
the Public share, everything works well when accessing the share from my Win98
and WinME computers. Files can created, deleted, etc. at will from these
computers. I've recently added a Win2k machine to my network, and from this
computer, I have read-only

Domain Admins
Hi,
I'm trying to set up one of my users to be a domain admin. I have
unix/ldap group called "domainadm" with "user1" a member of the group.
When I run "net groupmap list" I get the following:
Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-186220259-3826000728-3192352269-7033) -> domainadm
But when I go to log in to the domain with "user1" on a winxp machine,

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] Support for ARM Run-Time ABI (FP and Integer helper functions)
I wrote that loop. :-)
So now the differences between this patch and the one I had been sitting on are:
* We have opposite condition codes in our FP comparisons.
* This patch has integer division, which seems like a good thing, but
wasn't needed for my A9 target.
Are you sure about the comparisons?

RNG R/Splus compatibility
Starting with example Wichmann-Hill code from Brian Ripley I have been playing
with a set of programs for getting the same random sequences from R and Splus. A
copy is included below along with a test (which works in Solaris with R and
Splus 3.3).
The approach is somewhat different from the usual problems on this list as I am
trying to get the same results from Splus as I get from R. However,

Queries on samba with roaming profiles
I've some queries on Samba, hope that someone in the mailing list can help me
:)
1) I've Samba PDC with W2k workstation (w2kwks). When I login into w2kwks, it
created a folder with my username in C:\Documents and Settings directory
(which I think is the roaming profile directory?)
2) When I configure Outlook 2000 on the w2kwks (for imap), it automatically

Samba compiled version to rpm package
Hi !
I'm runing a linux redhat 7.2 box with samba 2.2.4.
I've downloaded the samba source in order to install it with the
needed compilation options (--with-smbwrapper --with-automount
--with-smbmount --with-pam ...).
Samba is now up and running but I would like to build an rpm with this
compiled version.
Any idea of how to transform this samba compiled version to a rpm
package ?

Can't join Samba PDC from Win2k
I am trying to make my Samba server act as a domain controller, but I
can't join the domain. When I go into Windows 2k and I right click the
computer, the properties button, and try to make it a part of the domain,
it asks me for a user account, and a password. I am not sure what user
account to type in here. What user account do I type in?
Below is my smb.conf file. I followed the howto from

reproducing Box-Muller numbers
There seems to be a minor problem with reproducing numbers from rnorm with
Box-Muller. The pattern suggests it might have something to do with the value
that gets dropped when an odd number of numbers is requested. (Details below.)
Also, could "user-supplied" be added as an option for normal.kind in RNGkind.
I'm sure the Box-Muller in R is better than my own attempt, but I would

unbalanced design for anova with low number of replicates
Hello,
I'm wondering what's the best way to analyse an unbalanced design with a low number of replicates. I'm not a statistician, and I'm looking for some direction for this problem.
I've a 2 factor design:
Factor batch with 3 levels, and factor dose within each batch with 5 levels. Dose level 1 in batch one is replicated 4 times, level 3 is replicated only 2 times. all

Adaptive design code
I have been trying to create code to calculate the power for an adaptive design with a survival endpoint according to the method of Schafer and Muller ('Modification of the sample size and the schedule of interim analyses in survival trials based on interim inspections,' Stats in Med, 2001). This design allows for the sample size to be increased (if necessary) based on an interim look at

storage of lm objects in a database
Hello,
I'd like to use DBI to store lm objects in a database. I've to analyze many of linear models and I cannot store them in a single R-session (not enough memory). Also it'd be nice to have them persistent.
Maybe it's possible to create a compact binary representation of the object (the kind of format created created by "save"), so that one doesn't need to write

samba 3.0.22 on solaris9 does not start as daemon
I'm trying to start smbd (samba 3.0.22) as daemon (smbd -D
--configfile=/etc/smb.conf) on solaris 9 sparc with current recommended
patches but the smbd process never returns from trying to become a daemon.
Samba was built with ldap, (heimdal) kerberos and active directory support
using gcc 3.3.2 from sunfreeware. Solaris 9 is a new install on a development
machine with production patches. The
