Logon errors
Hello all,
This my first mail in this list.
We have succesfully setup a samba server at our 1st attempt, next we go in another site and try
the same things but now it seems we got it all wrong!
The facts:
we have a linuxbox (named enlogic) (REdHat 7, kernel 2.2.18, samba 2.0.7)and one winbox
win98se (named ndemou). Our workgroup is localenlogic.
No other PC (not even a Hub because we've

Can I have oplocks enabled without problems?
Hi,
I used to have a win NT to serve small office networks comprised of windows
clients. During the last months I have made a considerable effort to learn
enough about linux in order to explore it's capabilities for that
application. In the area of file & print sharing samba still looks as the
best choice. I am using it in my office for some weeks now and I am quite
happy with it. Yet I

Is there another way of doing the bindings so that the Windows share doesn't run on TCP/IP but will still work with SAMBA? If so, where in the docs should I be looking, and if not - maybe this should be something discussed by the SAMBA dev people..
Regards,
Marc.

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
G'Day Volker and Jermey,
Can you take a look at Pavlos's analysis and see if you can work out
why he has been having trouble with Samba since this commit?
Pavlos,
That is an incredible effort, and so very, very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Andrew Bartlett

Did you note the very second you saw the offending error message?
That time would help a lot, I can't see the error packet.
But all that said, I'm not the person who needs to look at this, I just
hoped I could help get you the information they would need.
The only other suggestion, other than the build on master in the hope
this has already been fixed, is if you do find you can build

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Hi Volker, Jermey, and the Community,
To be clear: I didn't analyze your code, I don't know structures of Samba,
definitely I am not a person to judge and blame anybody :)
I am sure that there were reasons, you wanted to clarify some issues around
controlling share mode flags. And it's rather everything OK with your code.
Even more: most probably your change revealed a bug in Win7,

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
@Andrew
Unfortunately I didn't make notes on exact time of errors when doing my
tests...
But, I've spend last couple of hours on building samba from master:
- Have made a clone of the virtual machine, with new name and network
interface mac address, and a new dynamic IP assigned by my router.
- Uninstalled Arch packages: samba, smbclient and cifs-tools (depending

OK, have repeated the test:
- samba logs:

- tcpdump log:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/qzex3kxf2vzd87n/tcpdump_all.tar.gz/file
The tcpdump log covers the whole period of testing time, from starting to
stopping smb and nmb services.
Previous logs deleted from mediafire.

Hi All,
It's already 6am at my side. After the whole night of bisecting, compiling

This is the smbstatus with 4.11.x. No problems on clients.
Using LC_ALL=C because have Polish locale set up.

Dir-merge exclude filter ignored when rsync DEST ends in /.
Hi,
I encountered this behavor when switching my excludes
from global exclude filter rules to dir-merge rules.
If the spezified DEST directory has a trailing dot dir
the exclude filter rule "exclude /foobar"
inherited from dir-merge is ignored
and the file gets deleted.
But I'm not quite sure if this behavor is a bug or feature.
Test:
$ mkdir src
$ touch src/object
$ echo

Fwd: Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Currently 4.12.3 is scheduled for 19 May:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Release_Planning_for_Samba_4.12#Samba_4.12.3
As Ralph has a patch and you have confirmed it odds are pretty good
this will be in there.

@Andrew,
Samba master - what do you mean? A clean compile and install from genuine
samba.org sources? As a matter of fact, I was thinking about it....
Let me do the tests now, with tcpdump. Will send some logs and outputs
later on.
You've asked previously - this is the smbstatus, already on the latest
kernel/samba versions.
The problem is persistent, no wonder...
