XP irratic delay in opening files....
Hi all I am fairly new to samba and XP. I have a client who we set up a samba server for, they are complaining about documents taking about 30 secs -2-3mins to open but only sometimes (it can be very frequent). I have seen this and captured a piece of the log file I wonder if any one can make any sense of it... I have been looking on the net and trying various things all day but to no avail...

Help! problems with Arcserve. Can someone decrypt the logs ?
Hi everyone, We use samba 2.0.4 and are very glad of it. However, recently I had to add a backup facility on our network, so we plan to purchase Arcserve IT for NT, in order to backup our servers. We are using mainly 3 Linux servers and 1 NT server, which runs the backup service. However, as Itried to add a simple share on the file server to enable backup, later I encounter problems with

Show stopper - 2nd cry for help
<Long Post, sorry!> Folks, I have a really nasty problem preventing me from migrating a bunch of NetWare 5 servers to Samba--attempts to copy large (> 2MB+) files to any samba share results in an error. To clarify what I mean by "error": 1. I attempt to copy, using explorer, a 2MB+ file to any samba share. 2. A 30 second or so pause occurs (copying this file to any other

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list! I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current) against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I can repeatedly test the

File transfer corruption (NULL characters)
I've got a couple of Solaris 7 boxes that are running samba 2.2.0. When I try to copy text files from a windows 2000 client to the server, the resulting file is filled with all NULL characters. I tried copying the same file to a NT server's share and there was no corruption. When copying to the solaris share, the windows 2000 client eventually gives the following error: The

Sysvol: users - access denied
Hello, I have a question regarding to access permissions. Recently I have upgraded my DC from version 41.12 to 4.1.21. This weekend I have decided to upgrade to 4.3.3. I have noticed that my users weren't able to access the sysvol share after the upgraded to 4.3.3. As a test I have created a new user "test" and I was able to open the sysvol share without any issues. Next I have

GFS and samba problem, again
Hi, I sent a mail a few days ago to this list related with GFS+samba problems. Since the, we have installed a sepparated test environment also with two linux servers where we have tested a samba server with an exported share in GFS. The share is read-only and only one server is exporting it. When we try to access from a single windows client it works fine, but when we try to access to the

CentOS6.5 Samba 3.6.9 Windows8.1 login possible after 15 minutes after logoff
Hello, in school We have CentOS6.5 server with Samba3.6.9 (default from CentOS3.6.9 repository). Clients are WinXP, Win7 and Win8.1, We use roaming profiles. Everything is working perfect, except that when user logs off from Win8.1 client, he is not able to log in for about 15 minutes to any Win8.1 client at school. After 15 minutes it is possible again. I do have pretty standard smb.conf, no

oplock not working correctly
I posted a problem with oplock previously, but am guessing it goto lost in an earlier thread with the same subject line, so here goes another shot: Using Samba 3.0.22 on a Gentoo box (kernel 2.6.15) I've a situation where file locking does not seem to be functioning as expected, in that more than one user can open and write to a file without any notifications being displayed about the file

running diablo 3 in virtual desktop
I've gotten Diablo 3 working with wine, but it is only playable inside a virtual desktop. If I run it outside a virtual desktop, I can't even get past the login screen and the music stutters. Inside the virtual desktop, I only get around 10-12 fps. I've found as infernix on the "Diablo 3" app page has, that if I run wine with the backbuffer as the render target instead of

Samba 2.2.8a and HP-UX 11.11 (11i)
I read a message from the archives that describes nearly our exact problem that has begun to appear after 11i was installed on our server. File access has become slow and unreliable, especially under high loads. As a matter of fact, I had a logon script running a series of echo -- it was executing them at about 1 line every 2 seconds. The way we "solved" the problem was moving the Samba

Still having trouble with slow opening of printer properties
List, I asked a while back about problems with very slow openings of printer properties windows. This afternoon our main internet link was upgraded to 6Mb (symmetric) and so I thought I might see some improvements in response. But no change. I really don't think it's the pipe that's at fault, there's something wrong with my samba configuration. When I open the properties of a

tdb locking issue - Solaris 10 and Samba 3.0.33
(Yes, I should upgrade Samba to 3.0.35). We're running the Sun provided Samba daemon (SUNWsmbau and friends) on Solaris 10 Generic_138888-08 (sparc). Lots of Windows clients (mixed XP, 2003, 2008) hit this server and periodically we'll start seeing smbd processes begin piling up. These processes can't be killed with a normal kill -- only kill -9 will do the trick. In the past

readbraw vs. readX
Using Samba 1.9.18p10 I have found a difference between Win95 and WinNT: opening 'Lotus Freelance' files from Win95 is really slow (about 17 kB/s only) vs fast (~hundreds of kB/s) from WinNT. Looking into the log (with debug level=4) I see using Win95: switch message SMBopenX (pid 33994) Skipping become_user - already user unix_clean_name [./PRIVATE/Goyal_Sep98.PRZ] Got dir cache hit on

FIX for smbtar zero length files... (Cont :)
(Erm, sorry about that...) I was talking about errors of the type: Got 0 bytes. The problem was sporatic, and seemed to be load/speed based. That is, the faster the Linux box, the more errors we had. A look through clitar.c led me to a solution. Currently, clitar.c is written to pad a file with zeros if a file read error occurs. This is normal. All of our errors were of the 0 byte length
