smbfs: patch for directory listing
Hello everyone I have recently reported problems reading a certain directory from an NT server on this list (and speculated in causes). I have a few workarounds and now I'm looking for some feedback on what the proper fix is and for people to test if my patch works for them. Please test smbfs with and without the patch on the directory in this zipfile (all files are empty):

2.0.5: problem with HUP reopening logs
rh60/caldera1.3 2.0.x (before 2.0.5) PROBLEM: samba didn't reopen then logs after HUP. I posted about this to samba-bugs; AT corrected the problem in 2.0.5-preXX, but not completely it seems. 2.0.5 PROBLEM: samba reopens the logs after a HUP but logs only the first connection to the new log, then it keeps logging to the old one. Here is what I see: # pwd /var/log/samba # smbclient|grep

smbclient stdin/stdout redirection from/to gzip
I made some tests with smbclient and gzip, and it seems to me that what I'm doing should be safe, but I'd like to know if this kind of input and output redirection has some "hidden" drawbacks/problems: may it cause corruption of output files? backup: smbclient '\\server\share' -Tc - | gzip > file.tar.gz restore: gzip -dc file.tar.gz | smbclient

Help me too! Password Authentication Failure
I have a similar problem to Giulio Orsero. I have failure messages in the log files, but I actually have samba mapping failures. A PC will map every day for two weeks properly and then not connect. Fifteen minutes later, it will connect. Any suggestions? Alvin ---------- Giulio Orsero <giulioo@tiscalinet.it> 7) I have 2.0.6-PDC and a 2.0.6-domain-member of the 1st pdc.

nbtstat doesn't show MAC address for samba servers
On Win9x I issue the command: nbtstat -a <netbios name> If <netbios name> is a Win9x machine I got the MAC address of that machine on the last line of the command output. If it's a samba server the MAC address is not returned: MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00 Is there anyone who gest the MAC address back from a samba server? -- giulioo@tiscalinet.it

Troubles with plot margins
I am trying to set the margins of a plot with mai and I get a strange output. I write: plot(rnorm(1000),type="l",mai=c(1,1,1,1)) and what I get is a plot with unchanged margins and a column of four 1 plotted on the top margin. 2.0.6pre2: smbclient/tar reports inconsistent file count
I have a win dir with 143 files and 3 dirs. smbclient '\\server\dir' -Tc file.tar --> "tar: dumped 146 tar files" smbclient '\\server\dir' -Tx file.tar --> "total of 143 tar files restored to share" When tarring it reports files+dirs, when untarring it reports files only; but the data is exactly the same: 143 files and 3 dirs, they are all tarred and

This should fix the problem and will be in the next release. Regards, Jeremy Allison, Samba

Error crosscompiling
Hi, I was trying to crosscompile dovecot, but I got some error: --with-notify=inotify don't work, as it try to run a test program to verify if inotify is supported in the building platform. Solved with --with-notify=dnotify. Ihmo, is more a hack than a solution. | checking whether posix_fallocate() works... configure: error: cannot run test program while cross compiling I can't

Very audible artifact in RC3
Are you aware that RC3 can cause a scratching, repeating noise to the audio? I downloaded an album in ogg format and while all other track seem ok, the last one has this problem. Sounds too weird to be a ripping problem and ogginfo (1.0) doesn't see any problem with the stream. If you'd like to listen to the file and have a BIG mailbox (size=3677710) or a login to some webspace,

Building shared libraries under Windows
I didn't manage to build a c shared library under Windows. I used rcmd shlib both with a source file and with an object file, but I got error messages in both cases. I get the same error messages both using a Dos shell and Cygwin. If I use the source file, I type: rcmd shlib prova.c and what I get is: make[1]: `libR.a' is up to date. windres --include-dir
