dead samba process
Hi! I am having trouble with a samba server version 2.2.5 on SuSe 8.1. Very often my samba processes get to state D and can't be killed anymore. The clients seem to continue to connect and so I get even more dead samba processes. These processes can't be killed, all I can do is reboot the machine. I have looked on the internet, quite a few posts regarding that problem, but no real

When I tried to run smbd via inetd.conf (SIGHUP), I always get the following on the console. inetd[590]: netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service I've edited the /etc/services to add: netbios-ssn 139/tcp And the /etc/inetd/conf with

INETD Question.
I'm currently running version 2.0.7 of samba(CIFS9000). I have HPUX 11.x installed on the samba server. When I try to run this from inetd it doesn't work. I can run a startup script that runs the smbd as a daemon and it works fine. But if I try to run it from inetd it won't start. The previous version of Samba 1.9.18p10 that I had on this server worked fine. Is this a bug in

Hi, I have a problem in accessing samba server from NT network neighbourhood. I can see the samba server icon on neighbourhood. But while trying to access then it's asking for user name & passowrd. I am not using local user & password from unix box rather it should be authenticated from NT PDC and accordingly I have modified the smb.conf file. Here is the sample of that. 103 flara %

It says I have to add two lines netbios-ssn lines to the inetd.conf file. Well, unfortunately there is no inetd.conf. However there is an xinetd.conf file is that the same thing and if so, what and where do I

I have the default installation of samba (2.0.5) that came with Caldera OL 2.3, but it doesn't seem to be starting up properly, nor is SWAT working. When I run the script 'samba start', I get the message "Starting samba: smbd nmbd", but when I check the running processes, only nmbd shows up. Samba 3 startup
Hello, I'd like to see if I can get some clarification on what is the preferred method of starting the Samba daemons (note that we are using Solaris, not Linux). This is something that I'm not able to find any explanation of in any of the Samba 3 documentation that I've looked at so far. In Samba 2 I would have the Samba daemons started up by the following in my /etc/inetd.conf:
