CIFS: mounting public/guest shares impossible? error: SessSetup = -13
hi,
i've always been using mount -t smbfs and recently "upgraded" to
mount.cifs because i have a very aggressive application which always
killed the smb connection (getting timeouts, ...).
my setup:
* some passwordless public/guest shares
* one admin share over a x-over link
to be able to use the admin share i had to switch my server from
"security = share" to

CIFS mounting - can a remote directory be specified?
Hi all,
I'm trying to mount a Windows share, which I am able to browse
successfully with smbclient, with mount.cifs. I run smbclient as follows:
$ smbclient //host/share$ -U user -D dir -W DOMAIN
-D being the remote directory changed to before the smbclient shell
appears (as I understand it) - this works fine.
I'm running mount.cifs as follows:
# mount.cifs //host/share$ local/ -o

Nouveau channel resets userspace handling
Hi everybody,
so, I would like us to finally solve the last piece on how to react on
channel resets from the kernel side, as this would solve this nasty
"Xorg freezes allthough killing the causing application unfreezes it"
issue.
I have some WIP code which works pretty well if the application isn't
listening to vblank events (like glamor or wayland compositors do) and
whenever mesa

domain logon
Hello,
I have changed the domain on my Win2k machine from a samba 2.2.1a to a
2.2.7 machine. Adding the machine to the new domain went fine and access
to shares are ok.
With SP1 installed I get the error : Unable to login : netlogon service
is not running allthough I can connect to the netlogon share. After I
installed SP2, this message goes away but I get a check username/password
complaint

Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
Hello,
I have set up a Samba printserver at a school. The server is a
standalone server, connected to no domain. I have installed printers
with Cups, and uploaded Windows printerdrivers to the shared driver
folder. I can add the shared printers in a Windows 10 Pro client,
without any hassle. When I try the same in any Win 10 Home edition, I
get Windows error messages like "error

NT: Cannot set default print options for client
Hi there!
* I put my printer drivers on the [print$] share
* Did everything as described in the Samba-Howto Colletcion
(made the first connection as root, etc.)
* Connected to the printers with a normal user and now I cannot change the
default print options allthough the user is in the local
Administrators group. Everything is grayed out.
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
Thank you.

problem with listing users on winXP/2k+3
Hello list,
Some days ago i sent an email to this ML about a problem im having with listing
users on winXP/2k+3 computers.
The thing is our samba PDC has +1600 users and, this time i counted, there only
appear on the "security advanced settings" list box (where we select users that
can read/write/execute on a windows directory share), about 500/550 users.
There is no evident reason

Mail delivered, but lost?
Running dovecot 1.2.9 on a Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS virtual machine.
Postfix receives messages and hands them over to deliver for local storage.
Today two mails came in that could not be found allthough they got delivered.
What catches my eye is the "?" in the msgid:

resend: odd system in findsmb output
This is a resend. I'm seeing this odd system with an IP from a different
subnet again. Again ideas why this happens?
Does anyone know why I might see the following output from 'findsmb'?
Notice the unknown system on a completely different subnet. Would this
normally be seen if someone brought in a system with a static IP on a
different subnet and connected it to the network?

max concurrent CIFS connections
Hello,
I need some help please. I have been told from an administrator that Samba
does only support up to 3.000 concurrent CIFS connections and each
connections reserve 5MB of memory.
If this is true that I would need 15GB of memory to support 3.000 concurrent
CIFS sessions how many people have this amount of memory in any server?
The second argument which he used was and I quote him

smbfs and cifs
I periodically see smbfs questions get asked on this list, and they
usually get one of two responses:
1. smbfs is a kernel module; this list is not the appropriate place to
be asking smbfs questions.
2. You should be using cifs instead.
(Please let me know if either if these is incorrect.)
I was surprised to see, however, that the smbmount / mount.smbfs
manpage makes no mention of cifs as being

Permissions issue with CIFS mounted share
I've tried some internet and list searching, but I haven't been able to
find anybody with the same issue. It's hard to search for "samba cifs
force user problem" because it hits nearly every samba tech support
question ever asked.
The smbfs kernel module disappeared from the stock fedora kernels
recently *crycry* Now my shares that were mounted via smbfs have to be
mounted
